I needed an adjustment to my sunglasses. The associate performed the adjustment with skill and a good attitude. No charge!

I started the scheduling process a couple months ago. Today was my appointment at 10 o'clock. In the past couple of days I received two text messages and an email confirming that appointment. I responded that I was confirming that I would be there. Unfortunately, I arrived at 9:50. The office was closed. I waited until 10:15. At that time I tried to call and no one was answering the phone. Several hours later I tried to call again and couldn't get an opportunity to leave a voicemail until I had been on the phone for almost 2 minutes. I would definitely not recommend this company. I was having difficulty seeing with my old glasses. I have glasses that are perfect. Better than I had thought possible.

Had no problem getting in to get my intial appointment and my trial contacts came quickly but trying to schedule a follow up to order my permanent contacts has been terrible. No one answers the phone. No one calls you back or responds to emails. They also had me pay up front for my contacts which I found strange. I won't be coming back here after I get my already paid for contacts. read more

Just to start they repeated over and over how bad my eyes are, I can see but it's hard to read anything close and after my eye exam I told the lady I wanted bifocal but she insisted on giving me progressive and I told I did not want them that I wanted bifocals but a gain she said you will like them (progressive) and again I told her NO but what did she order for was the Progressive. I didn't get a phone to tell they were in until a year and half later that I needed to pick them up and pay balance of $150 but we went around again that I didn't want the progressive but if got me what I wanted I would be glad to pay the balance then her response was that's ok we already bill the insurance company anyway It's a shame that the company will not listen to the customer read more

Terrible experience! Took 8 trips to get prescription and contacts. First the staff is unprofessional. Receptionist was eating a sucker at the front desk (showing off her blue tongue) and was smoking on the sidewalk when I left. Other staff was talking with their friends at the tables for patients. The doctor checked my nearsighted vision, but didn't check my farsighted vision. I was also not tested for eye damage as all other dicots had in my experience at other eye doctors. I needed contacts because I was running out so they got me some trials of a different brand. I had to go back to get trials of the brand I've worn for years. In order to make more money, they make you go back for another appointment with the doctor to check if the contact and prescription are correct. I've never had this at any other eye doctor. After my 3 minutes with the doctor, they hadn't ordered my contacts yet and I was out again. They gave me trials of yet another brand with the wrong prescription. When I called about the contacts being the incorrect prescription and suffering from a headache they yelled that they had given me the correct prescription (even though I was looking at the box) and didn't apologize!! I went back again and got some trials in the correct prescription and still no apology. I finally got part of my order and the rest came in over a week later. I didn't get the correct number of boxes ordered, but I'm done dealing with them. Taking my prescription and going elsewhere. read more

I'm sick that I have to even check one star for this place. They ripped off an elderly man of $400.00! When his glasses came in they needed to fix their mistake. So after not hearing from them he reached out to find out what was taking so long and was told that they could not repair them and it was passed his 30 days already and they are not guaranteed anymore! What!!!!!! This is unfair, way to go Fortney for ripping off an old man on a fixed income and still has no glasses! If I didn't work day shift I would go picket outside of their door and warn every person I could to not do business with this company. I wanted to like them, I really did. I'd rather visit a locally owned business than a corporate chain but tthe prices of nicer frames are higher than other opticians for comparable frames and they are not as good quality. They do have a good selection of frames for medicaid eligible so if there is a need, for the low end frames, they would fit the bill. They seem to have a lot a staff turn over. I spent over $500 for lenses and frames in addition to the $ 200 that my insurance picked up. Then a year later the paint was coming off the frame. I came in and pointed it out & a staff told me it would be no problem to have the company replace them. She made some notes, took my phone number and I left. She never called me and she had left no information on the computer for anyone to follow up so essentially I believe she never made the claim. No one knew who she was when I came back and no one seemed very interested in helping me so I just dropped it. I will also drop any more of my business. It's not the most organized office ever, it's true. But they get the job done. And the wait can be long, but what doctor's office doesn't have a long wait? The doctor herself is great. She took the time to talk to me and to find a better type of lens, which has made a world of difference. I will be returning here for all my eye-care needs. read more

Cool place in downtown Ypsi, right on the corner of Huron and Michigan Ave. Like other reviewers here, I've gotten tired of the pushy, car salesman-like feeling of other local opticians. I always feel like they're nudging you to upgrade to some new lens type or buy a second pair of frames when you really don't want to, etc. Why is a piece of plastic SO expensive, you know? In my experience coming here a couple times, I've found this place friendly, helpful, and relaxed. And though the store looks pretty modest from the outside, it has a *lot* of great styles and frames. You can get designer-end or just basic necessity glasses. read more

As other reviewers mentioned the staff is pretty unprofessional. They lack some very basic customer service skills, particularly on the phone, but in person as well. I was also given an information packet (with important medical information/cautions) that was absolutely riddled with grammar mistakes and typos, making the entire packet incoherent and more or less useless. Thankfully there's always Google to the rescue. However, the doctor was amazing! She understood my needs and matched them with a terrific solution. Unfortunately this was completely overshadowed by every other interaction I had with the rest of the staff :/ read more

I was very impressed with the care I received. Dr Jean took her time and explained everything step by step. Took time to really give me a complete eye exam. I did not feel rushed to decide on what was clear or not when they are preforming exam. The staff was helpful, kind and we had laughs. I will definitely be returning for my eye health. Most unprofessional Eye-care place when it comes to communication. They never answer the phone. It's very inconvenient and frustrating! Once you're able to get into the office the service is okay, it can be a bit unfriendly but nothing too bad. read more

Took over 3 months from first appointment to picking up the right contact order. Multiple phone calls on my end, with very limited communication back. Long story short...Had one lady refuse to take a message for me and told me to call back after not knowing how to answer my question about the status of my order. Went in to pick up my contacts to find out they gave them to someone else and they had to reorder... Final time going into the store once again, they couldn't locate my order and wanted me to come back... After looking further they were located (which were not in the ordering filing cabinet; makes me question, did they even order them?).. Would of loved to had supported a business in the downtown Ypsilanti area, however, due to poor customer service and disorganization, I will not be a returning customer. read more

The sales people did not give me enough information on the different types of lenses. Just like any sales people, they just push the product, So let me explain. Old age has required reading glasses but otherwise I have good vision. They pushed progressive lens on me and I'm still asking myself why? The only theoretical advantage for this type of lens is that I wouldn't have to take my glasses on and off. But in the real world, progressive lenses require the wearer to continually search out the proper focus spot to see clearly by moving your head up, down and sideways, always with a slightly blurred peripheral vision. Now for people who are both far sited and short sited, or very bad eyesight, these lenses are perhaps an acceptable compromise, but for me, tipping my head up so I can see clear words on the computer screen or whatever I'm working on, is a pain. I would rather just take them off or push them on top of my head and see far distance rather than putting up with the side effects of progressive lenses. The sales people say I just have to get used to them. Why should I have to get used to constantly searching out the sweet spot? I've had them for months now and cheap reading glasses still make my life easier than progressive lenses. read more

I was sick of super-chain places like Lenscrafters, so for my new glasses, I tried a place right on the corner near my home: Fortney Eyecare. I will never go elsewhere! The doctor was thorough and unhurried, and she spent time talking to me about the exam results. Then, an employee dropped everything to take the time to help me pick out my glasses. She gave me honest, personal advice on which frames were flattering and which ones weren't (and, wonder of wonders, her top picks weren't automatically the most expensive ones!). It was a long wait, which I could forgive if any attention had been paid to patients. It was a cattle call of a line. And I got the wrong prescription, the doctor "assumed" I was far-sighted because I was in my forties... basically ensuring I'll need glasses in the future by giving the wrong prescription.
