I see an ophthalmologist/surgeon (who's good and comes highly recommended by a couple of friends) every year to see how my cataracts are progressing. Unfortunately, the ophthalmologist's office "requires" an optometric exam each time, whether I want a new Rx or not. Yet more unfortunately, insurance doesn't cover it. And yet even more unfortunately, every time the Rx is not quite correct, which I find out after a new pair of glasses. It's so consistent that I now don't get a new pair of glasses until after I see Steven Lutz. His exam and Rx are spot on each time. Great experience. They had a cancellation and I got an appointment soon after calling. They have very advanced equipment and they don't have the terrifying machine that blows puffs of air into your eyes! Dr. Lutz is nice, friendly, and referred to recent articles and information while talking to me about my eyesight. He recommended very comfortable contacts for me which is HUGE as my last ones were uncomfortable in my eyes. I can wear my contacts all day long again with no issues! Excellent experience here. They were efficient, courteous, and knowledgeable - Dr. Lutz even took the time to explain some of the biology to me which made it a lot more interesting and valuable a visit. Steven Lutz & Associates was where I got my first pair of glasses ever, in my 20's. The appointment and getting my glasses was so easy that that was how I thought it would be at every eye doctor office, but let me tell you... not the case. The experience here is very frustrating, though the service is OK. There are many hidden cost here. I just want to get a replacement for my old glasses and they did the contact lenses eye exam for me. This is $100 charge, not covered by most insurance. The glasses are not cheap. So I want to go to Costco to get a pair. They don't want to release the PD to me because they said it 's only available to those purchased glasses at their store. I wouldn't recommend going here if you have a regular health plan coverage. Out-of-pocket pay will be high. To your reply to my review, I am just reporting what happened to me. I did tell the receptionist I want to do eye exam to get a pair of glasses and I have no idea you will do contact exam until you asked me to try on. You can reply the recording. What's is even worse, you are breaking The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The plan info is the patient's privacy. As a doctor, you can not reveal my health plan info in public. Please remove the info. read more

We got charged well over $500 for child's glasses even AFTER insurance. The glasses we were sold are too big, warranty is next to nothing, and they uocharged us every step of the way. I feel silly when I could have went to elsewhere for free. A mistake we won't be making again. read more

It had been many years since I'd had my eyes checked and I finally decided to take the time to do it. I found out about Dr. Lutz's office through Yelp. I normally don't rely on Yelp for medical office suggestions, but I didn't really know where to start. At the time there were twelve 5 star reviews here and that was it. I couldn't ignore that this may be a really good place to go. I was wrong. Dr. Lutz and Associates was a GREAT place to go! When I called the receptionist was super friendly and able to get me in the next day for a routine check up. I didn't even ask. She just offered and I happened to have that day off. When I arrived everyone was so kind upon getting me checked in and set up with the necessary paperwork. The staff member that took me back for the initial round of tests was incredibly sweet and helpful in explaining each test. Dr. Lutz himself was fantastic and talked me through all of my test results and what they meant and helped figure out a new lens prescription for some glasses. At the end I asked for assistance with looking at frames and the staff member that helped guide me through picking something out was very helpful and did not mind that I tried on about 30 pairs. She was honest with me on how each one looked and that was exactly what I wanted. My glasses were finished in less than the amount of time that they quoted and I love them. I get compliments on them almost daily. To sum things up, every step of my experience from start to finish with Dr. Lutz and associates was fantastic. I had a good experience here. My insurance is EyeMed. This office is close to my home and a listed provider. I wanted an eye exam but had no intension of buying glasses there. I needed to turn my script into my employer for safety glasses. They gladly gave me my script at the end of the appointment. I opted for the extra screenings, a retinal scan and macula heath check. My terms, not theirs. I don't remember what they called these things. They cost $25 each so my exam with copay was $60. I'm all about saving money, but now in my 50s I figured why hold back if there is a test which could reveal a correctable defect. $50 would seem stupidly cheap to have detected something early. My test turned out fine but I am deficient in a pigment which protects the retina and is an indicator of possible current or future health risks. Dr. Lutz explained it all in good detail. I didn't feel rushed. In the end he pitched a vitamin which can help increase this pigment. I purchased a 6 month supply from Dr. Lutz which includes a free re-screening to judge the effectiveness. I'm generally skeptical of things like this. I was worried I'd been overcharged for the supplements. As it turns out the price I paid was less than I could find on Amazon. Factor in the return screening and this was a reasonable purchase. Will it help? I don't know. I hope so. I doubt it will hurt. And if this small amount of prevention keeps my eyes healthy, what a fortunate find. I was please with the service and confirmed everything I was told. I'd recommend Dr Lutz. read more

They did not tell us what the price ranges were for the different brands when I asked. This was by far the best optometry experience I ever had. The office is beautiful, the people who work there are very helpful, and Dr. Lutz noticed the eye measurement mistakes of my previous optometrist. Finally, I have contacts that fit properly without itching! He gave me a sample pair of contacts, so I was able to walk out of his office with contacts that fit correctly in the right prescription. Dr Lutz himself gets a 5 star review! He is the best eye doctor I have found in the Ann Arbor area and he helped by finding the best treatment for my eye condition where other doctors have failed. I find him an interesting person and a good communicator. I have had good experiences with the staff until recently. I am only posting 3 stars for the following reason: I had an eye exam and purchased an expensive pair of glasses on 2/12/18. I received a letter dated 10/12/18 explaining I did not get charged a certain $25.00 fee when I was there in February. This letter included a bill and showed up a full 8 months after my visit. I called the office to ask more about this charge and it was confirmed that it was a staff error that I was not charged. I have worked in the health-care field for over 10 years. In that time we would have never gone after a client for a small fee that was our mistake 8 months later! We would have certainly written it off. The person I spoke to would not budge an did not offer to write it off. read more
