When you get there it'll have a small parking lot with bathrooms. They have a two trail, one to the cave and the other as a regular trail. The cave trail require good experience with hiking unless you're a risk taker. When you hike up, the trail gets very rocky and narrow and take extra caution when it rain as to be caution with muddy trails. I was a bit unsure as I was hiking towards the cave, but finally made it to the top and back safely. I didn't get a chance to make reservation so I didn't get to experience what the cave was like, but I would recommend checking it out! I would rate this hike moderate to strenuous. The view from above is breathtaking! As for the slaughter canyon trail it's below and on ground. My friend and I walked a little over a mile until we reached a more high grassy area and decided it'll be safer to return back. This trail is rated as easy.

I am willing to bet that most of Lea County doesn't even know that "Indian Statue" even exists. Five stars for this art piece in the middle of nowhere because it's art. It's history. It's original. From Monument Highway, the statue is visible. It stands quite tall. My Jeep parked next to it seems so tiny. Lol. The rocks in the masonry look just like the caliche that naturally surrounds the area. The plaque on the front side of the statue reads: "Monument Settled in 1885 and named for a marker at the springs a few miles west, Monument remained a ranching community until oil was discovered in 1928. The Indian Statue, called Geronimo by residents, was erected in 1928 by land developers. Monument has produced 4 world champion rodeo performers: George Weir & Roy, Betty Gayle & Jimmie B. Cooper. A centennial celebration was held in 1985. Erected by Monument Centennial Committee" I hope it continues to be a fixture in this tiny community.

This was a must visit on our trip to Roswell and though the fast was stop I'm so glad we did it! VERY important, there are two distinct stops at the North and Southside of town. Both have the famous "Roswell" sign and our favorite part was right up on top, if you look closely at the cow graphic the one closest to the UFO is being sucked up by the flying saucer. North Side Sign: This one had a historical placard you can read and it's own designated small parking lot. This was the first one we went to and though its covered in graffiti and stickers we still found it charming. The South Side Sign: No placard and you have to go further down the freeway going south toward Carlsbad to see the small diorama with a crashed UFO and Rockwell style classic small town folk withe their broken down car. The statue itself is grey with a gold medallion and a red/white/blue ribbon around its neck. It tends to blend in with its surroundings especially on a day like we visited (3/29/2024). There are a couple of signs on either side of it with interesting history pertaining to Odessa & the hare organism. There was ample, free parking. If you have time, walk a short distance to the "P.I.F" (Pay It Forward) sculpture. The artistic messages will put inspiration in your heart. PS - Jackalopes are in the same category as dragons, unicorns, and mermaids... as much as I wish they were reality they are very much non-existent. It doesn't matter that they are Odessa's local hockey team mascot. So when someone not from Texas tells me they "saw a jackalope in the pasture the other day" (and sadly this has happened more than once), I'm automatically putting you on the crazy list.

They did a great job recreating it (at a smaller scale, of course) but it's still amazing to see up close, and you're allowed to walk through the pillars here, whereas in the UK you can't get anywhere near the actual Stonehenge pillars. We were on a road trip and when I heard about this place, I knew we had to swing by and experience it for ourselves. It was only about 15 minutes out of the car, but when you're driving across the massive emptiness of West Texas, every cool stop is worth the chance to stretch your legs. Stonehenge in Texas?…read more Actually it's a "Stonehenge Replica" of the mysterious United Kingdom sight, but it's still pretty cool. Located on the campus of the University of Texas Permian Basin, these sculptures are perfect for the setting... the bright football stadium lights in the background certainly give it a different meaning. Lol. Yeah, it's obvious it was "mechanically-cut" not to mention "stacked with cranes." But the saving grace, Paul D. (review from 1/27/2020), is not that this is a free permanent outdoor art exhibit, but that this sparked so many questions from my daughters, ages 9 & 10. We visited on Good Friday 2024. It was awesome to experience their curiosity and listen to their hypotheses on everything from the real deal far across the pond to the planning of this development. This would be even better to view at night time in my opinion, but our schedule did not allow for us to stay longer. Seniors and graduate students of the college stopped by to capture graduation photos while we were there. Ample, free parking.

I visited the Lubbock Lake Landmark because they have a couple of hiking trails, a 4 mile and a 1…read moremile. Somehow when I heard park I expected trees. But this is like a dry lakebed that is also an archaeological site and they have a neat little museum. It has fossils, indian artifacts, and displays about the past history of the area. The museum is geared more towards middle school aged children, had some neat exhibits of things they found in the landmark, wasn't all that big. There are some large bronze statues of ice age animals outside the museum that are cool. And it's free to get in too. There is a handicapped-accessible trail behind the museum that is like a slightly raised boardwalk that I assume would showcase digs, but there weren't any going on. I went in early January though and they said Spring and Summer are the best times for digs. The long trail is not handicapped-accesible, it is gravel and quite long and meandering. It went by a prairie dog burrow, but I didn't see any. Possibly because some other people aead of us were hiking with several dogs. Dogs are not allowed there according to the parking lot sign. There are some picnic areas near the museum that are nice, and I spotted about 10 different bird species including 3 different types of raptors and some coyote tracks. It would probably be nicer to go here in the spring because I saw remains of many different flowering plants and it would be a more attractive walk then.

There was a couple of trash cans and a bench. A picnic table. A small sidewalk area. Ample street parking. Some shade trees. It seems well-maintained. Life is good. Better with parks. There is free parking on the north & south ends as well as street parking. I remember what this park looked like when I was in high school. It has seen a major improvement over the years. The landscaping & shade trees look beautiful & healthy.
