You'll see signs that guide you into a rectangular room. Check in with the friendly staff member there. Find a desk with a chair and a black pen. Fill out your ballot. Turn it in & out the door you may go. The place is not busy at all for early primary ballot voting on 5/21/2024. I hope that's not an indication of more recent voter turnout...

In my possession on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, was a very important birthday package that needed to be sent ASAP, but not so ASAP that I had to pull a loan... Lol. The employee who assisted me was welcoming & efficient. She didn't try to persuade me to purchase an unnecessary, more expensive method of shipping. There was ample parking at this middling site. It's a bit lackluster on the outside & inside, but it gets the job done. My package recipient was opening their birthday gift by Friday so I'm a happy camper.

For a small town post office, this place is nice! Several entrances to the parking lot due to the building being on the corner. About a 1/2 mile northwest of the MVD lies the metal sculpture of Brian Norwood, a local artist. It's back off of the Lovington Highway. You can certainly see it from the highway, but there are a couple of ways to drive closer to it too... What stands out immediately and can be seen as your zipping along on Highway 18 is the silouhette of a Boeing B-17, which is also referred to as the "Flying Fortress." The heavy massive planes were "four-engined bomber" planes that helped provide remarkable and highly accurate capabilities for attacking our enemies. It also depicts pilots-in-training who flew these Boeing B-17s at the former nearby Hobbs Army Air Field which was a prevalent training base during the Second World War. To my knowledge, there is no plaque or highway sign informing of said historical piece. I hope that someday soon this would change. My oldest daughter and I parked on a caliche road as close to it as we could and walked up to it to take photos. If you choose to do this, just be careful of wildlife holes - prairie dogs and snakes live here as do mesquite bushes and all the desert weeds and prickly flora! Lol. Norwood's website states that the structure is "19 feet tall at the tail and stretches for 82 feet from end-to-end." The sculpture was funded by the City of Hobbs and dedicated "at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month -- Veteran's Day 2008." As I always say, history - no matter our opinion - should always be remembered so the good may be repeated and the bad shall not! Please make a point of viewing this artwork as it is free and rich with history if you know how and where to look for it. TIP: The sun sets behind the "Fortress." New Mexico's sunsets are stunning! One nice staff member tried calling the museum for me. When that failed, she asked a few questions to her supervisor who never left her desk during the 5+ minute conversation. I used to work at a library and I'm so glad to see that people still use them. Free, ample parking in a private lot. I am willing to bet that most of Lea County doesn't even know that "Indian Statue" even exists. Five stars for this art piece in the middle of nowhere because it's art. It's history. It's original. From Monument Highway, the statue is visible. It stands quite tall. My Jeep parked next to it seems so tiny. Lol. The rocks in the masonry look just like the caliche that naturally surrounds the area. The plaque on the front side of the statue reads: "Monument Settled in 1885 and named for a marker at the springs a few miles west, Monument remained a ranching community until oil was discovered in 1928. The Indian Statue, called Geronimo by residents, was erected in 1928 by land developers. Monument has produced 4 world champion rodeo performers: George Weir & Roy, Betty Gayle & Jimmie B. Cooper. A centennial celebration was held in 1985. Erected by Monument Centennial Committee" I hope it continues to be a fixture in this tiny community.

Tho the men and women here were super nice. Entering inside there wasn't a maned visitors desk. We had to use the intercom to announce us and our intentions. Then it went over dispatch, we heard it. Then someone came to the door to let us in. Great place inside. Building seems somewhat newish. Very clean. We were able to get the badge to add to our collection. Very happy!

I envy you. I have never experienced so professional, organized, patient, CLEAN and wonderful a library as Hobbs Library. EVERY single one of your librarians are friendly and kind. Each one goes out of their way to assist you. I have had help with printing, research, computing and general knowledge of New Mexico. I am so impressed!

The Hobbs Public Library is a gem…read more It saddens me that more people don't utilize the services here. My kids love going to their section downstairs. It's organized very nicely. There's a really nice patio to hold book club meetings, meet up with a friend, or, for example, have paperwork notarized. The staff is really nice. A staff member usually always asks me if I need assistance or at least greets me when I walk in. When they aren't available to help you or you just want to browse the computers, the online catalog is extremely user-friendly. The parking spaces are a bit too small for this truck / SUV town. So far there have been a few books that they don't have. I forget to request it in person. One is called "Lost in the Barrens" by Farley Mowat. At any rate, this is a great library if you have youngsters. They often hold events catered to babies all the way up to 3rd grade students. Also, there's a small playground area on the north end so you may let your kids depressurize after being quiet during your library visit. :) Please help keep the grounds clean by ensuring your trash goes all the way into a receptacle. You're the best, pass it on!
