Holy mackerel, it's hot in New Mexico (that's not news) and while waiting for dark, this was a fantastic stop. The library is quite large and there's lots of seating. Of course, tons of fiction, non-fiction, reference, periodicals, children's, young adults and media. I found a desk with power outlets and windows that was quite comfortable. There's a parking lot for about 25 cars and a nice park attached with more parking across the street. It's brightly lit inside and quiet. I've been to many other libraries and it's the first time I've seen so many tables and chairs available. It's very inviting for you to come and spend an afternoon. Also, great signs everywhere showing inclusiveness and that libraries are for everyone. One drawback might be that there's one main room so it's possible sound could travel easily.

Luckily, I was able to on a work trip since it was a very short walk there from my hotel. On the outside, it looks very large with beautiful decorations and paintings all around the building. When you walk in, it's a bit underwhelming. It feels like a stale business office. The book selection is actually pretty decent although I was disappointed in their oil and gas book selection given that Midland/Odessa is THE oil town of America. I would say the highlights of this library is that they have 2 gaming stations with games for PlayStation, Wii, Switch, and Xbox, and they have plenty of computers. I would recommend this library for residents of Midland but people visiting will probably find it underwhelming with its offerings.

Some are not organized according to author and instead shelved by the name of the series or book. As an example, let's use J K Rowling, if the library has four different series of hers they will not all be in on location but will instead be spread out on different shelves according to their title. This is the oddest thing I've ever seen and very frustrating when any other library you've been to utilizes the dewy decimal system and shelves books according to the authors name so they are all nicely located on one shelf location. The centennial library is much friendly but the same odd shelving is happening over there too.

This is a smaller library branch but it has all the things you need including comfortable chairs for sitting, study carrels for working, tables for coworking and a large selection of fiction, non-fiction, periodical and reference materials. I envy you. I have never experienced so professional, organized, patient, CLEAN and wonderful a library as Hobbs Library. EVERY single one of your librarians are friendly and kind. Each one goes out of their way to assist you. I have had help with printing, research, computing and general knowledge of New Mexico. I am so impressed!

The Hobbs Public Library is a gem…read more It saddens me that more people don't utilize the services here. My kids love going to their section downstairs. It's organized very nicely. There's a really nice patio to hold book club meetings, meet up with a friend, or, for example, have paperwork notarized. The staff is really nice. A staff member usually always asks me if I need assistance or at least greets me when I walk in. When they aren't available to help you or you just want to browse the computers, the online catalog is extremely user-friendly. The parking spaces are a bit too small for this truck / SUV town. So far there have been a few books that they don't have. I forget to request it in person. One is called "Lost in the Barrens" by Farley Mowat. At any rate, this is a great library if you have youngsters. They often hold events catered to babies all the way up to 3rd grade students. Also, there's a small playground area on the north end so you may let your kids depressurize after being quiet during your library visit. :) Please help keep the grounds clean by ensuring your trash goes all the way into a receptacle. You're the best, pass it on!
