Was in the area recently and was looking for a place so my old buddy could stretch his legs, explore and get outta the car for a little while on a past roadtrip. Upon searching the area, I came across this cool, well developed, not being used on my visit park just for him. One of the nicer dog parks around. I have been to several in the surrounding area and this one is nicer than my communities dog specific park by a long shot. There are two marked separate sections; for large breeds and small (under 25 lbs) breeds. My old man is a little dog and he was quite content to roam the small dog side by himself on our visit. There are benches for humans, and concrete walkways, as well several trees of various sizes, a fire hydrant, grass (of sorts) areas, waste cans and poo bags all around. The large dog side is a much larger space and has an obstacle course on it as well. Sorry to say I won't take my dog there. Last time I was there several people before Me did not pick up after their dogs. And that is the one of the biggest reasons I won't go back not to mention the big dogs on the other side tried to attack my little dog, thank God pthere was a fence the owner was seen on the bench scrolling on the phone, not paying attention. September 11, 2025 - Fortuna, CA I appreciated that they had a separate area for dogs under 25 pounds, but the park itself could have been much better. The surface was mostly gravel and patches of dead grass, which wasn't very inviting. What really bothered me, though, was the sheer number of uncollected dog waste piles. This is the first dog park I've been to where it was so obvious that many people weren't picking up after their dogs. You really had to watch every step, and I didn't feel comfortable letting my pup run around because it was nearly impossible to avoid the mess. read more

Stopped here while on a road trip through Northern California. Gravel, spacious lot conveniently located off the highway and next door to a pet supplies store, perfect for us! Our girls made friends with the crowd here on Saturday, running and playing with the friendly locals. Doggie bags, fresh water, chairs, and dog toys available for visitors. This was my second time at the park. The first time was a couple months ago after work. I wanted to let my 8 month old puppy and 6 year old dog get some zoomies out together. When I arrived, a man told me to wait a moment, so he could take his dog out, as it was aggressive and he was only there to give his dog exposure to the one other dog on the other side of the fence. I thought this was very responsible and conscientious. I went in to the side where both my dogs were designated (the over 25# side) and there was one dog. This dog was kind to my older dog (mine is about 50-60#), but immediately trying to dominate my younger one, who is about 40#. Mine was very submissive and rolled on her back, but the other dog was relentless to the point that my puppy started peeing everywhere in fear and my older dog came running over to try to intervene. The owner was not able to control the dog easily. She got the dog off and after another time of this happening, she took her dog to the empty, smaller dog side so we could all stay. This morning my husband and I went on a Sunday. There were many dogs and a lot of owners. It started out great! However, within minutes a large dog (probably 100#) began biting, attacking, and pinning our younger dog. The woman next to him began attempting to get him off and we were glad the owner was so responsive. She started using her cane, because the dog was biting our puppy's face and now laying on top of her and she was less than half his size. She is not small, this was just a massive dog. As things escalated, we realized this woman was not even the owner and just someone taking charge, because the actual owners were not near their dog or paying attention. Their dog was not even in their field of vision. Finally, my husband had to yell "Whose dog is this?" and someone came over, giving no sign of accountability. She asked what happened if our dog was getting hurt (yes) and then said "It's because your dog is small." Unacceptable response, as there were many other dogs smaller than hers and a dog should not be at a dog park if it is known to be aggressive. We left. Out whole visit lasted under ten minutes. As a summary, the experiences my dogs have had at this park is that some dogs are incredible and trustworthy. Ours and most of the dogs there today fall into that category. Unfortunately, there is also a population of dogs that come that are not controlled by their owners and therefore unsafe. I do not know what we would have done without the woman and her cane, because this dog was not safe for us to use our hands with. I took my older dog to the Eureka Dog Park as a puppy many times when he was much smaller than our current 10 month old. We never had a single problem and it was a total pleasure for both dogs and humans! I was so excited to start taking ours to the Fortuna Dog Park. We will not be back. It is not a safe space and it is stressful. read more

The park is right off highway 101 at the 12th street exit in Fortuna, right next to Fortuna Feed and Garden Center. The whole area is fully fenced, it has a separate area for small dogs as well as running water and watse stations.Every time we've been there people are friendly and the dogs have so much fun playing with other dogs in a safe, off leash area. It's very nice/fun place to take your pup. But if it just rain do not go if u don't wanna give your dog a bath, in my opinion there needs to get more grass so there is not dirt patches. Other than that it's very nice and fun to go to! read more

Great place to take your dog! Alot of the time its very mello theres water on sight and its fully enclosed! Be aware this place os still being worked on so not alot of grass or trees.. but it is coming along well! Parking lot seems to be sufficient for its needs and you could always park in the lot next to it! Come down and let your puppys play i do recommend this park! read more

We stayed nearby at a hotel that accepted dogs. We were so happy to have found this dog park so close to where we were staying. We visited it 3 times a day while we were in the area. Our pup was happy and able to run around and do some good sniffing. Unfortunately, there were no other dogs there most of the time. Our girl likes to socialize. read more

More of a doggy rest stop than a real dog park. Rocky ground with weeds interspersed, but right off the freeway and easy to access if you're passing by. No trees or shade, so bring a hat and sunglasses. read more

A very nice dog park for the area. Fortuna has the best dog litter bags I have ever seen at a public dog park. The park itself is well kept although can be a bit muddy after rain. Dog parks are interesting places or should I clarify dog owners are interesting. I've been here a few times, good size park with room to run. Would be much nicer with more grass and less gravel. No trees for shade on a sunny day, there are a few little trees planted in the play area but they are years away from providing shade. A shade awning of some sort would make it a really nice park. The only real downside unfortunately is other dog owners who don't control their dog when necessary.
