The walk is an easy 1.4 mile loop. It has moments of up and down but is level footing even then, and large flat stretches. I recommend taking the loop on the left going uphill as the signage is slightly better from that side. When the trail arrives at the half way point, which is a giant cross marking the place where Spain claimed the land, it is easier to find the trail going from left to right than from the other way. (Google helped though) There are many clearings where one can imagine foxes or fairies in residence--cool shelters made from overarching branches and carved out trees. In many places along the route, the trees make a natural arched covering. There are views of the ocean and port all along the trail, with "spurs" marking small side trips for additional views of the water. There are also frequent benches. This would be a good route to do with children or with other folks who need an easy trail. From the parking lot, there is the trail in the hills behind, and the beach in front. We were there on a weekday in August and we saw about 10 people total in our explorations. Nearby is Katy's smoked fish. Don't miss this. It is expensive but very high quality. It is not your usual fish in a tin, and it is right next door. This is also the location of Cal Poly Humboldt's Marine reserach center.

It's eerie and beautiful at the same time. My kids like to climb rocks and there is no shortage here. I caution you, they've sustained injuries with small slips. Close by are small shops and a nice clam chowder restaurant. The beach is clean and parking is a breeze here too. It's little town beach vibes and easy access give this spot 5 stars.

He gets everything arranged, gets you fitted with the right bike, and sends you out with a guide to get you through the forest on bikes. The guide we had today was Josh and he was very good! ( after biking he added his sweet dog, Annie, to the group for the rafting section!) along our biking he told us some fun facts about the Redwood Trees and some exotic plants! Our biking section of the day was GREAT! It is actually a perfect ride you start on pavement and then you end up on a gravel road with some uphills and some downhill but nothing super steep allowing you to take in the scenery. Can the forest be any more beautiful!! The trees are enormous!! Some have been burned, some struck by lighting, some both!! But they are still standing! After biking we drove to the Smith river where they laid out a great lunch! After lunch we geared up for river rafting down the Smith River, the only un-dammed river in California! It is spectacularly clear! Since we were here in June, the river was not super deep, but we did have some fun rapids and some really nice open spaces that were very mellow, allowing you to take in the scenery! For those more daring there is a stop where you can jump off rocks into the water. The rafting portion lasted about 2 to 3 hours. Our entire day started at 9:30 and we were done around 4 PM. I thought it was a fantastic way to spend the day! I highly recommend them.
