After a large tree fell on my heat pump, crushing it, my prior service provider told me it could take up to 3 or 4 weeks to replace (I had no heat). Foss came out within 2 days and installed it 2 days after that. They also determined that my old system was installed incorrectly and had incompatible parts. Besides being expensive to have the mini-split cleaned by Foss, the 'help' you get as a customer is lacking. When there is a problem they seem to fob you off to 'look it up online'. They can't even answer any question that might explain what is happening in order to make a decision whether I have done something incorrect in the programming or if i need someone to come out. Big difference, and if they can't even ask a few questions to figure that out i call that BAD AFTER CARE SERVICE. It feels as if i am flying solo and they couldn't care less. read more

The technician told me he would include information in order to check warrant status but he did not and quoted me $700 for repair. I was able to readily find the part online for less than $100 and finally sourced it for $56. Six screws and two pipes. $700, really??? Took me about half an hour. read more

I needed someone to install gas lines in an existing house, a gas stove, an on demand gas water heater, gas stove connection, a bbq connection and coordinate with the gas company. FOSS came out and crawled through my entire house including the crawl space to figure out the best way to install everything. The bid was competitive with other bids but I chose FOSS because they seemed to be the most thorough. The owner came out to evaluate the installation and to assure it was completed in the best manner possible. It all turned out better than I expected. I will be using them for my system and heat pump maintenance. I highly recommend FOSS for any heating or cooling installation or maintenance. Very Professional. read more

Normally I try and make these funny but this was just not a good experience. We had just moved into a new house and neither of the two gas stoves are working. They're the primary heat for the house so we were using the electric back up. Not a desirable situation but not an emergency. I was working so my wife met with the repair man. $240 to inspect and diagnose both stoves. We were told that one was unsafe to operate because of the monoxide levels and the other was out of production but needed a new temp probe, it was faulty and causing the unit to think it overheated. We took their word, they were genuinely nice guys. They sent a consultant a week later to-give us our options. $14,000 to have new stoves installed or closer to $20,000 for a ductless HVAC system. We ended up calling a family friend to give us some advice and what he thought. The one with the temp probe issue, it was that the pervious owner had the fan taken out for some reason and a $50 fan and a half hour and it was back to functional. The unit really was over heating. The second one, with out he pilot light on and being a cold day the cold air was forming a plug keeping the exhaust gasses from escaping and being pushed into the room. They tried to sell us a lot of product and charged us to be lied to. I don't appreciate it, I would only let them work on products that they had installed. read more

I got their service on heat pump on Feb 28th, 2019. While clumsy technician were staying for 2 and half hours, he had not done any cleaning. Most other technicians are doing some cleaning of filters. He removed some ice and then heat pump started working. He tested defroster sensor and one connector. I got shocked to see his estimate after he gave recommendation of changing those two simple gadget. The part cost will be less than 100$(maybe around 50) and it will take around one hour to finish it. But he quoted 750$. Also in addition to diagnostic fee of 150$, he charged trucking fee of 50$ more. I should not have paid 50$ more but I wanted that clumsy and lazy guy go away as soon as possible. Stay away from this terrible company,. It would be waste of your time and money. read more

My husband got these people to come out to install a new branch on a propane line from our furnace to our dryer. When I heard about a 100.00 charge just to bid a job I was worried they were greedy. We are moving the a new house and since things were getting complicated and pricey we did not have the energy to get a second bid (and didn't want to waste that 100.00)... The worker came out and bid the job, and my husband agreed. Unfortunately it cost over 1000.00 and this job should have been hundreds less. I realize he could have said nope to the bid but when you are already in for 100.00 and sort of over a barrel for time it feels very much like a huge rip off. After I saw the bill, I called some other plumbers with a description of the job, and they felt half that would be about normal for the length of pipe run, and to find out if there were some extenuating circumstances. Called Foss to complain and they just blew us off. The guy who called me to "explain" the bill said the worker had 4 hours work into the job... but that includes all their travel (I figure the 99.00 "bid" fee should have covered that; probably 45 minutes total travel. They arrived around 8:30 am and I had a copy of the invoice by 12:15...that was after the person left and had been paid, and my husband forwarded a copy to me. The only difficult part of the job was doing a crawl space.. isn't that pretty much expected? Of all the tradespeople and businesses we are using to get our new house together, this one stands out as the worst in attitude and price. They made out like bandits on us. read more

In the latest wind storm our power was knocked out and stayed out for over 36 hours. When it finally came back on we noticed our furnace was only blowing cold air. We called around and everywhere couldn't get to us earlier then that fri. (7 days after the power was originally lost.) We called FOSS they came out that night, within a few hours...The tech (Sam) was very knowledgeable. He was very sensitive to the surroundings aka appliances in the area of the breaker box. These folks are professional and good at what they do. I had them replace my furnace with a high efficiency Trane unit and it has been great. The following year I had them replace my water heater with a tankless unit. Very nice installation and has been operating without issue for several years. Furnace failed this morning and Foss is unwilling to service unit because I live 10 miles south of their southernmost boundary for service calls. I understand that they are a business and need to keep their crews generating revenue and not on the road, but I feel a bit "stung" on this one. If they changed their service boundary, it would have been nice to have been grandfathered in given the substantial investment I've made with them. If I have been south of their service area all along, I could have gone with a different company for the installs. Either way, I'm now working with someone else out of necessity. read more
