Don't believe GMaps when it tells you it's a 24 minute walk from the Positano beachside ferry wharf.
Maybe if you are in marathon shape and can speed walk briskly continuously up winding stairs and sloped paths under an increasingly warming sun, then it could take that amount of time. Otherwise plan to take some breaks along the way after the first few hundred stairs to snap some pictures, check out the residential dwellings (or what you can see of them) along the way, take a sip of water, or enjoy the breeze for a little. It took me about 40 minutes and my phone steps tracker quoted 42 flights (insert face melt here).
Alternatively...there's the easy way, ie. the option to NOT go it by foot, which I realized after walking hundreds and hundreds of steps, sweating in the mid-morning sun, only to be greeted by the sight of people hopping off tour buses and guided tour vans to snap a picture. A local bus also stops nearby though you still have to walk up partially.
Oh well....
At least I exceeded my steps goal that day lol.
The pay off was worth it though!!!
WWOOOOOOOOW
I might have slightly gasped when I saw the view of the town, framed by the mountains and Mediterranean Sea. I wanted to sit down and take a nap after all those stairs, but my eyes were glued wide open to yet another mesmerizing panoramic view along the Amalfi Coast that took my breath away away.
The viewpoint is not somewhere to linger long since there's only a couple benches, and a consistent flow of tourists. However there's a fresh juice stand squeezing local orange, lemon and pomegranate juice and serving lemon slushies. A small souvenir shop next to it and a farmer's fruit an vegetable stand. Also saw a cafe nearby with outdoor terrace seating.
Spent about 30 minutes here just taking it all in, I didn't want to leave! read more
