You meander down the bar a little, belly up again and order your second round. This proceeds until you're at the end and proceed out the other door and on to the next place (after playing in bottle cap alley). I miss this place. When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was the views over Bryan/College Station, they are truly amazing. We were there not only for a birthday but to watch Texas A&M kick off their season. Credit here goes not just to the setting, but to the exceptional team on duty Mattie, Georgia, and Jordan. Their service struck the perfect balance: attentive without hovering, genuinely enthusiastic, and clearly invested in making sure guests felt welcome. It's rare to find staff whose energy elevates a night just as much as the food or drinks, but they pulled it off effortlessly. Speaking of drinks: Reveille's bar program is worth lingering over. We sampled a variety of their specialty cocktails alongside the classics, and not a glass disappointed. The food followed through with equal strength. Chef Keith Snook deserves applause for a menu that blends Texas heartiness with elevated execution. I remember Loupot's Bookstore which closed in 2012 after 80 years in Business. Also there was Holick's, the shop for Corp of Cadets Senior Boots, since moved to Bryan. Then there was the movie theatre and a dive burger place called "Dead Solid Perfect". With the yellow brick architecture in places, I enjoyed the fun and funky vibe of the neighborhood, plus a few drinks at the Dixie Chicken thrown in. Northgate is now mostly an entertainment district, and in my opinion a bit run down in spots. I'm sure this area is on some developer's list, but I hope that some of the architecture and of course the Chicken survive. I had a decent enough walkthrough, including Lunch at the Dixie Chicken and another one at the Freebirds Burritos, shopping at the TXAG bookstore, and a long walk down into Bryan to find the apartment that lived in. A little bar district in College Station! This place is…read moresorta like the 6th Street of Aggieland. Around here, you'll find where the city has designated this sort of an entertainment / boozing section of town, and has set up things like wide sidewalks, food trucks, and an alleyway full of bottle caps! You can bounce around this neighborhood easily on foot, and find at least a dozen bars all within walking distance from each other. Can't get into one bar? Try the one next door! This is the home of the Dixie Chicken! It's within easy staggering distance from the dorms on campus, as well as lots of off-campus living. Ya, it's a bit sketch throughout here, but I didn't get stabbed, so it's all good. None of the bars in here are chain bars, which is nice. They're all locally owned and operated, which makes for a cool vibe over some of these corporate ones. Be sure to check out all the whiskey you can drink if you spend enough time here.
