I used to enjoy coming in here to grab a drink and play darts. I've never had an issue before, which is why my experience today was especially disappointing. On 2/26 during around midnight, I ordered a drink and asked for darts like I always do. In the past, bartenders have allowed me to quickly sort through the public sets to find three that match in weight. Anyone who actually plays darts knows that using three completely different darts makes it nearly impossible to play properly. I'm not asking for tournament-level equipment -- just three that are consistent. This time, I was told I could not look through the set and that I would just have to take them as-is because they're "free." That hasn't been the standard before, and it was handled in a way that felt dismissive rather than helpful. If there's a new policy, that's fine -- but it should be communicated clearly and consistently. As someone who comes here frequently, it was frustrating to feel brushed off over something that has never been an issue before. I ended up leaving without even playing. I'm not usually one to leave a review but I hope management takes a look at this, because consistency and attitude really matter, especially with regular customers. read more

I use to go here all the time when I lived in the area. Recently visited here again while I was in town and still has a great vibe to be in. They have many pool tables to shoot pool on for countless hours, and plenty of great selections of alcohol to choose from. Not to mention the great staff; Randy behind the bar knew exactly what drink to recommend and went above and beyond what you would normally see at a sport lounge. Worst service I've ever had. Both bartenders were acting like they hated their jobs. Like how are you going to be in the hospitality industry and be rude. They definitely get paid hourly there because when I left I saw empty tip jars. Server passed us up 4 times and didn't ask us if we were ok or anything, literally ignored us. I went there a week ago on a busy night and I couldn't wait to go back. It sucks when you like a place for the environment but can't get service at all. I've only been here on weekday evenings when in town on business. Seems as though a fun bar with a mix of age groups and ethnicities. The bartenders are friendly and aren't afraid to poor on the heavier side. Drinks are reasonably priced and other mixed drinks are tasty as well. Shots are bigger than usual. There is a juke box on one side of the bar with pool tables and other games. The darts are on the side of the bar with a stage. Every time I've visited this bar they always have someone "singing" that no lie sounds like a dying calf in a hail storm! Not sure if it's a paid person or some type of karaoke but they need to stop! The bathrooms are relatively clean but typical bar bathrooms. It's a fun crowd overall. Anyone overly drunk and disorderly is dealt with swiftly. The bar is convenient to my hotel and within safe walking distance so no need to uber. I have been a few times when a friend took me there to practice his pool skills. The table rental price is a bit high. The full-service bar has o.k drinks and the waitresses always seem nice but it takes them a long time to come around to check up on our drink status. They offer Kareoke one night a week. The decor is wood and carpet. The place has low lighting and is very spacous. There are at least ten pool tables. The music is good but be aware the place can get smokey on busy nights. read more

My husband and I moved to CS a year ago and didn't know of any places to just relax and not have to deal w/the psychoness of Northgate n the students. We found Poets and knew we had found it. After going about a dozen times, we've finally realized that the only good thing about it is the karaoke (they sing a ton of 90's awesomeness) and the abundance of pool tables. Service is HORRIBLE. Beer is flat. Drinks are weak. Bartenders are really rude and it takes 20-30 mins at a minimum to get a drink from any given waitress. Unless you're going to listen to karaoke on a Friday and not drink, I'd definitely suggest trying somewhere else. read more

Let me tell you the story of my New Years Eve visit to P.O.E.T.S A friend and I came in after midnight , we proceed to the bar and ordered drinks, we each had to leave a credit card to open a tab, I have no problem with this, many bars have this requirement. After playing a game of darts my friend went out to smoke, I went to the bar for another drink. When I told the bartender my last name he said my drink had already been paid for. I didn't question him, I went outside and asked my friend if he had paid my tab, he smiled and said "Happy New Year" This is where I made my mistake, I assumed that my tab was paid and forgot I had left my credit card. The next morning I went for breakfast and realized I didn't have my card. I checked my bank account and there was a Poets charge for $8.49, I assumed that the charge was for my first drink. I waited until after noon and called poets to inquire about my card. John answered the phone and after a few seconds he said yes we have the card, I told him I would be in later that day to pick it up, that was the extent of the conversation, John wasn't aware I record all of my phone calls with an Android app. Later that day I went in to get the card, the girl behind the bar handed me the card and a copy of the receipt, I was going to leave a five dollar tip because I had received 2 drinks and the service wasn't bad. I looked at the receipt and it had already been signed by I assume a female. $10 had been added to the gratuity line, I asked about the tip and was told I could talk to the manager, he informed me that there is a $20 charge for tabs left over night and he knocked it down to $10.He also pointed out a sign on the wall that stated the same. At this point a person I assume was John said "I explained the charge when we talked on the phone, LIAR, I have the conversation recorded and am willing to let anyone listen to it. The manager then informed me that I was drunk and didn't even remember I had a second tab, true enough, I was drunk and forgot my card. I wasn't driving and it was NYE. I realize it's only $10 and I should just move on but it's a matter of trust and ethical behavior, who wants to do business with someone that looks for any way possible to pad a customers bill? Who wants to do business with someone that looks to capitalize from someone else s misfortune? I could see a charge for a hot check or walking a tab with no insurance it would be paid. My card was charged that night and showed to have been processed through my bank at 4:22 am. I wouldn't walk back in Poets for any reason, it's like visiting a den of thieves, if you still go there watch yourself and friends closely. Pay for drinks with cash and get a receipt for every transaction. I can only imagine what happens to people who forget their wallet or purse at that bar. read more
