For a true speakeasy experience while you're in Cleveland, the Foundation Room needs to be on your list. I was able to visit in a recent trip to the city and would recommend it to those going for a visit as well. Located in the House of Blues, you'll have to enter through the 4th strewn door and head straight to the back. Most "speakeasies" I have visited in the US are pretty obvious (like someone sitting in a chair, directing you to a set of stairs behind them to enter the "speakeasy"), but with the entrance to this one tucked away behind a place with live music and food, it had more of an authentic feel. The friend with me that night even questioned if we were in the right place as I strolled to the back of the restaurant and walked up to the girl seated at a podium. "Excuse me, but is this the way to the foundation room?" I asked her. She affirmed, and we were soon on our way up an elevator. When we got to the second floor, we were promptly greeted by a host, Julius, who showed us around. The decor is sumptuous, a blend of Moroccan, Indian, and Jacobean flair. After checking out a room with relics from an Indian temple and looking at the rooftop (with an Instagram-worthy floral wall), we decided to grab a cozy spot near the bar and ordered a drink. As we sipped on our Old Fashioneds, Julius came by to check on us, and we watched the place fill up with an array of people in a festive mood. It was a lovely way to end a night in Cleveland, and a place I highly recommend that you check out when you're in the area! read more

Was here for a networking event. Foundation room was recently remodeled and it is so much nicer than before. Great service from bartenders. The view from the top patio is absolutely amazing, you see the entire East 4th from the balcony. As far as food, only had limited selection (chicken, pizza and cheeses) and it was good, no complains there. Can't speak if the membership is worth it, though. read more

My husband and I went here for our anniversary as we'd gotten married at HOB a few years ago, and love to pop in for the nostalgia. They'd recently started taking dinner reservations for non-members, and we had a fantastic time. It was quiet and cozy following the initial evening rush, and the service was wonderful. The specialty cocktails were delicious and well made, and the food (we both got steak) was great as well. We will definitely be coming back- it's a really unique and special place! read more

I called and booked a reservation for The Foundation Room and spoke to a gentleman. I specifically stated I am not a member of the foundation room but asked if I can still eat there for restaurant week. The gentleman stated no problem because it's restaurant week. He confirmed the reservation for 6:30. When I arrived at 6:27 I was greeted by a woman who stated she could not find my reservation. I explained I just made the reservation earlier that day and maybe it wasn't in their system yet. I then explained I made the reservation with a gentleman and asked if she could check with someone. She advised she doesn't know who I'm talking about. I asked if I could go upstairs and speak with someone as there must be a mistake. She said no! I can't believe the incompetence displayed by this business. It was a truly disappointing experience. read more

I've been to the House of Blues Foundation Room about five times over the past few years. Lets just say the WOW factor has dropped. It seems each time I go there the service gets worse. The service isn't bad but it's no better than anywhere else. The first time I was there it seemed like we had two waitresses waiting on us. They would explain everything to you about the menu and help make choice if you were undecided. If you left your table and went to the bathroom, your napkin would be re-folded and all your crumbs would be swept away. If you ordered a bottle of wine it would be kept cool in a chiller. Well all of that is gone. The food is still good, but the wow factor has left. read more

Review for the bar only: The atmosphere is great, dark, eclectic and relaxed. The service is definitely lacking. I asked for a cocktail on the specialty list and was told that the bartender did not make those?? Ummm, its on your menu??? Took a log time to get a second drink and the bill when the bar was not at all full. To his credit, the bartender gave us a free round bc he did not have enough wine to complete the order and we had to go to our show. But I also felt like he just wanted to give me the half glass and have us leave. Overall did not meet my expectations. read more

I like the atmosphere with a Moroccan flare and good lighting. I have been there a half dozen times over the last couple of years and normally go before or after a concert. Recently I have noticed that they have dropped their standards for entry and will allow anyone in. This last week there were people in tennis shoes, sweat pants, and gang wear. There were 3 guys wearing Hells Angels jackets and to me, it seems that it is a matter of time before a bad element causes a problem and then the crowds disappear and the place closes down. Similar to what happened on West 6th Street or the flats. It is sad because it could be a classy place to go and hang out, and I hope that my prediction is wrong, but I am not interested in being in the middle of a Hells Angles and Mongrels turf war. read more

The last thing I ever expected from the House of Blues was to be surprised. I consider HOB to be pretty predictable and it definitely isn't a place that I'd consider for any type of nightlife outside of a concert. Enter: The Foundation Room. This place is pretty cool. It has a hookah lounge meets Morocco meets Bourbon Street vibe (w/ the outdoor patio). It's eclectic and intimate and I'd love to go back again, order a bottle of Pinot and a cheese plate and just pretend like I'm hanging out somewhere 3000 miles away. read more

My wife and I are members for the second year in a row. Before joining, we would buy VIP passes for certain show that gained us access into the FR. We love the place. We joined at the first opportunity. Like any private club, the more often you go the better the staff learns your preferences. Sadly, we can only make it there a couple of times per month but the staff remembers our names and our drinks. It is the premier place to see a concert/show in Cleveland. Close and intimate. Sometimes, the entertainer comes to the FR after the show. The food is 5 star. The atmosphere is eclectic. The service is top notch. There is a private entrance to concert venue from the FR which affords the ability to come and go during a show for no wait drinks. Clean, private bathrooms. Free coat check and more. In the summer, there is a patio on the top of the HOBs that overlooks 4th Street for perfect people watching and a great view of downtown Cleveland. Absolutely go if you get a chance. Join if you can. A great value and a fun time, every time. read more

I was invited up to the Foundation Room before a Foreigner concert. This was my first time in Cleveland and most certain NOT my last! I loved this place and their very friendly employees....one of the cocktail ladies was so nice she even gave us a VIP pass to her other place of employment. The concert at the House of Blues was AWESOME - and that is where we met a great friend named Vesty....We shared lots of stories and PBR in a can at that show....I will always keep him and Cleveland near and dear to my heart! read more

Went to the Foundation Room for a work associated group dinner. Usually those kind of events have so-so food, but this food was amazing. The soup was a seafood broth soup (didn't get the exact name of the soup). It was delicious and had a bit of a kick to it. The salad was an arugula salad with pine nut brittle and a light vinaigrette dressing. The breadbasket was also delicious with Italian crusty bread along with a version of a crusty raisin bread with delicious butters including an herby garlic butter and a cranberry infused butter. For my entrée, I chose the beef tenderloin which was so juicy, tender and perfectly seasoned. Mashed potatoes were served on the side along with a mushroom glaze. The dessert was a little weaker with sorbet and gelato which was tasty but kind of left me wanting more. The room itself is also very cool and "rock and roll"-ish with fabric on the walls and a private elevator you take up to the room. Definitely a cool place to host a private party. read more

I went here for the first time this past weekend (my parents are members), and I had an absolutely fantastic time! Our waitress was amazing, the food come out in a very timely manner and it was delicious. The after we ate upstairs, we went downstairs and had a few cocktails before the Cavs game. I love the overall atmosphere of the place - I read in another review that said the decor reminded them of a hookah bar, and I can def see that in how the place is decorated. I just cannot say enough about how great the staff is that works there. The mystery of trying to find it is pretty cool too - I would not have been able to find the place on my own if I wasn't with my parents. Great job! I cannot wait to go back. read more

The House of Blues is a great place to see a show. It has a great atmosphere and isn't crazy like a big venue slammed full of thousands of people. The staff is awesome and are very friendly and willing to help with any questions or concerns. If you are blessed to get an invite up to the Foundation Room or have enough jack to be a member then you are truly a lucky person and should jump at the chance to go up the private elevator to a friendly, warm and seclusive environment. The staff are top notch and will go above and beyond to make you feel like royalty. There is a main bar and 2 side rooms for some nice privacy.. With flat screen TVs for your viewing pleasure. Not that you will be watching them because there is always a smiling face to talk to. The chances of meeting a group member from the band you just watched or a true VIP are outstanding to say the least! If you are blessed with a chance to go... Run! I wish we lived closer we would become members instantly. To say the service was extraordinary is an understatement. We stepped into the secret elevator to head up to the foundation room for our reservations, we were seated promptly. Our waitress was funny, sweet, and excited to share all the good finds. The menu was limited, but I knew that going into it. The bread and the butter trio were carb heaven, and the wedge salad had the most amazing dressing. It wasn't long into our meal we met Julius who seems to run the show of the Foundation room. He chatted with us about numerous things, made sure our experience was second to none. The baked cookies for dessert were a nice touch, because we had nothing but time, as we arrived pretty early. We traveled from out of town and the hospitality from the staff to keep our food in their refrigerator shocked me. We ran into Julius a few more times and at the end of the night he walked up with us to make sure we got our food. If you have the opportunity DO NOT MISS this experience. We went for the first time with a group of ten, the group left after a very long dinner agreeing it may have been the worst place we had ever eaten at! We had not had any of the food we ordered for 2 hours and 10 minutes! Went there first time last week with a few colleagues, one of them was a member. We had a drink at the bar, the bartender was very attentive. We then went upstairs to the restaurant. All appetizers were really good, esp the chicken lollipops (i think thats what they were called). I ordered the short rib and it was excellent. Others had the prime rib and the steak and were very happy as well. Service was quick and friendly, would definitely come back. read more

So my boss introduces me to the foundation room at the house of blues a few years back and I have to say every time I'm there its great. The service is always amazing...good food ..bomb dranks and good times everytime. The people are real nice and always make sure im well taken care of and comfortable with food and drinks...if I could, I'd spend a lot more time there...maybe as a hangout ! As of my last visit there we 2 guy tenders and Allison..who I graduated with...had I known shed be slanging dranks at hob foundation room 15 years later I definately woulda cheered her on lol...cheers and thanks for the always good times! Nicole was an amazing server. She was one of two people serving the entire rear of the upstairs dining room. She was efficient, friendly, talkative, funny, didn't make 1 mistake - everything you'd want in a waitress. The experience up here was wonderful. Our meal was great! I loved the black Grouper fish special and the broconili was cooked perfectly. The dining room is a very unique space, but calming and a peaceful place to dine. It is a very different atmosphere from the downstairs part of the HOB - it retains the same spirit but in a less crazy way. The patio gives a nice look of E4th St. After our meal our waitress took us on a tour of the area showing us the different rooms of the bar that can be reserved and giving us a glimpse in the music room which overlooks from above the backstage area of the HOB concert hall. I will definitely be back here and bring more of my friends and hopefully run into Nicole again! This time around I was showing the place off to a friend in from Chicago and I think she definitely made him feel welcome. read more
