I visited Amazonia last night with some friends and this was my first time at Amazonia. The building is setup so that you enter through the patio as the front doors are exit only / emergency type doors. The ambiance was really great and this would be a great place for a romantic date. The dining room was low light and while we would have preferred to sit on the patio it wasn't an option because we made a reservation short notice. The server brought us a round of complimentary shots which were amazing. I will say that the first round of drinks we ordered took about 15 minutes which the Caesar salad and meatballs came out at the same time as the drinks. The meatballs were extremely dry and over done. I wanted to order the Fuego Fantasma, but unfortunately it was unavailable. I ended up ordering an El Jimador Reposado and soda. It was $15 for a 2 oz pour which for a well tequila. The other thing that bothered me is the portable payment POS they hand you after you pay with a card the suggested gratuity options were 25%, 30% or 35%. Which I generally do tip around 25% traditional suggest gratuity is generally 18% to 20%. read more

I got the chocolate lava cake and it had beautiful presentation but such middling taste. It was nice that they gave that to me free for my birthday so brownie points scored (literally). My one friend ordered their berry gelato and said it was great. It looked pretty as well. Their Google online menus don't match their website menu so beware! We also ordered their trio of tacos and even asked the server what the spice level is. My one friend is intolerant to spiciness (and fun--JK!) and our server assured us it wasn't a spicy dish. Then I tasted it and thought it was actually medium spicy, so homie lied to us! The tacos were also very flat and not filled to the brim like the ones others got. I also didn't taste any of the slaw it said it had and there were no other veggies. Not a fan. Bought some colleagues here for dinner and drinks while they were in town, This experience was not as great as my first visit. Our waiter Carlo was excellent. He was kind and understanding. This was my first time sitting upstairs and the vibes were great. They have two different rooms upstairs. One is the sun room, which is lit by beautiful natural sunlight from the windows. The other side of the floor was more dark and moody, similar to the downstairs seating area and bar where you enter. The cocktails were excellent. I think there were a few changes since my last visit, but they were all complex and delicious. I got the Blood Moon Rising, which had Cachaca infused with Colombian coffee and cacao nibs. It was giving chocolate coffee vibes. The problem this time was the food. We shared the chips and guacamole, which was good. We also tried the guava, cheese, and fruit skewers. They were very different but I really enjoyed it. The sweetness of the guava and saltiness of the cheese with the hot honey was a cool combo. I got the champignon pizza which had mushroom cream, mozzarella, arugula, and parmesan. It was tasty and I loved that it was wood fired. One of my colleagues got the pistachio pizza. It came out like pizza soup. Too much sauce and then just a ton of pistachios on top. The crust was completely soggy. Luckily, we told Carlo and he was able to get it remade. My other colleague didn't enjoy her birria tacos. They didn't come with any cosume and she mentioned that they were dry. Amazonia is easily my favorite dining experience in Cleveland. I could write a book about how much I love it, but I'll limit myself to this review. I visited Amazonia twice so far, both top notch experiences. I plan to be back a million more times. My first visit was for a surprise birthday party. We dined in the upstairs moon room with a large group. The manager and the staff really participated in the event like it was like their own friend's birthday. From our initial reservation to the day of the event we felt so supported. We were treated like the most cherished guests at the restaurant. Everyone in our party got pizzas. I got Blood Moon Rising cocktail (with cacao!) and pistachio pizza. Both were excellent! Everyone in our group was raving about pizzas! My second visit was for Mother's Day for sound journey on the patio. I found it very easy to book a table on OpenTable and even change my reservation. We ordered pistachio pizza, ribeye burger sliders, and tacos. All were excellent, tacos so juicy! We also ordered beer, Heads Will Roll, and Emerald Tree Boa. Drinks were delicious and very well crafted. My parents loved the experience! Sound Journey was so beautiful! Service was absolutely amazing - quick, efficient, very warm and friendly. We were checked on many times and got our orders almost immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As far as the vibes, Amazonia really transports you to the Amazon in so many ways. Met a friend for dinner at Amazonia for dinner a few weeks ago. I had no idea there was something nestled in the back of that lot but there it was! It was mid week so we were seated without a reservation but it seems like a weekend night would have needed one. I have been wanting to come here since they opened and I finally was able to stop in. This is such a great spot. The entrance is around back and kind of hidden. It's a converted duplex into a small bar/restaurant. It is all about the aesthetic. I love the decor. The vibe is warm and inviting but also kind of moody. We went at night so was dark as they have small lamps on each table. A friend and I went on a Tuesday night which is 1/2 price pizzas. I had the burrata pizza. It was excellent. The crust was fluffy and chewy (but in a good way). It's topped with prosciutto, burrata, fresh garlic, and balsamic. It was delicious but I do think it was missing basil. To drink I had the "Jungle Guardian" which was a mezcal based beverage. This particular was made for sipping. I was not what I expected but it was very good. I do believe their drink menu changes with the season. I'd like to go back and try other cocktails. We had excellent service. Today is just one of those 5 days! I had a family member wanting to take me out to celebrate. I had no idea what I wanted to do. I just wanted to stay home than go to to a familiar restaurant. I can do that any day. I remembered a place someone recommended, when I looked it up it was closed on Sunday. When we arrived it was a Taco Place!! I had to get out of the car and ask where is Amazonia. She said, it's a Speakeasy, go through this door and it's in the back. I went and got the rest of the guests. We were greeted by Luis, what a warm happy welcome. We sat at our table an I was so intrigued with everything. I ordered Margherita Cheese Pizza with sauce and basil, people in our party ordered small plates, tacos, salads, we had signature drinks and desserts. Wow, this place is something else. Let me paint a picture for you.. An unassuming home off a neighborhood street in Lakewood. It takes you a minute to determine which house it is and when you do you find an adorable boho-ish patio with string lights, mirrors, heaters (on a chilly day), and plenty of greenery. When you eventually make it to the main entrance (in the very back), you open the door to find a dark and romantic bar area. A host greets you and takes you to one of their beautiful dining areas. You find the sun room, or the golden hour room, upstairs with a ton of natural light, that gives off a whimsical feel. The next room you find is moody and enchanting, perfect for a date night. It's cool how each room has a different vibe. They clearly put in a lot of work. Now that you know the setting, it's on to the food, drinks, and service. For starters, our server Carlo was outstanding. Carlo was attentive, answered all of our questions (and we're a very curious crew), and made sure we were taken care of. My group started with cocktails. The menu is detailed, creative, and reminds me of a tiki bar menu, but instead a sexy, classy jungle bar menu. I went with the pink river dolphin. Hibiscus flavored vokda, yuzu, rosewater, vanilla, dragon fruit syrup, and egg whites make it frothy and colorful. Everyone at my table enjoyed what they picked out. They even made a mocktail options for one of us. As for food, their menu is limited and includes mainly pizza and appetizers. My group shared the chips and guacamole, which was delicious. We also tried the guava, cheese, and fruit skewers, which were... interesting. As for mains, I went with the pistachio pizza. It came with red onions, fresh herbs, mozzarella, and pistachios on top. When I took my very first bite I immediately noticed how soggy it was. I honestly couldn't eat it. Thankfully, Carlo brought me another one and it was 100 times better. Much appreciated. Amazonia has made it to Yelp's Top 25 Places to Eat in Cleveland. Love the vibes of the spot, it's a house that's been converted into a restaurant with lots of cool spaces to dine in. From the moody Moon Room, a dimly lit romantic space, to the Sunroom, which is nice and bright. They are also gearing up for spring, and the patio looks like it will be a great spot too. I think it's a great place for drinks, and our server was really attentive. The drinks are interesting and tasty as well. I ordered the Emerald Tree Boa, which includes ingredients like housemade green juice, coconut water, chlorophyll, banana leaf, orange blossom syrup, and tequila. However, I've been spoiled by living in Toronto and having high expectations based on first impression, I found the food a bit disappointing and limited in selection - mostly pizzas. I ordered birria tacos, but the brisket was super dry, even though it was topped with a saucey slaw. It also didn't come with consomme, which I'm used to with birria tacos. It was just strange, there was a lot of slaw, but the meat tasted dry and unflavourful. My colleague also found her pizza completely limp and not good, so she sent it back, and they made a new one for her, which was much better. The other two pizzas (burrata and mushroom) that came out for my colleagues, they said were good--no complaints. So, based on that, it seems like about 50% of us had an issue with our main. Guac was great though the chip to guac ratio is really off so little chips to the amount of guac but they happily brought out more chips when we asked for more. We also had these interesting skewers with Chontaduro (fruit from Central/South America) and cheese combo. Love that I gotta try something new and exotic though I wouldn't say I would want another one. Well, I cannot comment on the good at this restaurant because I've never actually been able to go there. I have tried a couple times to arrange for my book club to go to Amazonia and I can't tell you how unreceptive they were to the idea. I was told I couldn't make a reservation for more than eight. Then I was told I had to talk to the manager. Then I was told I had to send an email. And in the end, they told me that they did send me an email which I never received. I was finally told that I would have to put down $100 deposit to bring that many people and I just got a feeling they weren't really interested in our business. A close friend of mine & I visited for the 1st time last night & were totally dazzled! How absolutely charming! Tucked away in a formerly residential house...you definitely have to be looking closely for the small neon signage on the back side of the house. Upon entering, it's romantically lit for perfect ambience. A beautiful bar is the first thing you see, with tables more towards the back. Unique decor and fun music surround you. Ah yes, another gem in Lakewood. I visited Amazonia on a Saturday at 5:30pm with a friend. I was happy to snag a reservation the same day because all of the time slots between 5:30pm - 9:30pm were already secured. Generally a very good sign. I received a text 7 minutes before our reservation time advising that our table was ready and to reply if we were on the way. I over complicated things by second guessing my GPS when it told me I had arrived. If you're in front of a house on Hopkins St. towards the Madison intersection, then you're in the right place. Simply walk around the back (through the outdoor patio, which I would love to visit when the weather allows) and it is there that you will see an Amazonia sign. There are no giveaways on the front of the house whatsoever, so a true speakeasy vibe. I did notice that the porch has an electrical wheelchair ramp at the front of the house so 10 stars for accessibility, because there are a few stairs to get in the main entrance. There is not much space to stand upon arriving, as the host stand is immediately to your right and the bar is directly in front of you. It's tight but not uncomfortable. My friend and I were seated promptly and immediately settled into the vibe. I especially loved the lighting because it was moody and vibey without being too dark. I ordered two Palomas so I can't account for the craft cocktails just yet. We shared the ceviche, margarita pizza, and guacamole. The ceviche stole the show easily and the pizza was a solid second. There are no desserts so plan to indulge your sweet tooth elsewhere. Heads up that the tables are smidge small so you may want to ask for your selections to be sent to the kitchen a bit apart so there's enough space to enjoy without being overcrowded. Our server was lovely, and even managed to gently advise when we reached our 2 hour table limit. Completely understandable! I shall indeed be back soon. We walked in on a Monday around 5:30pm and it was pretty empty. We got seated right away and ordered some cocktails and food. We started off with the Glory and gold for me and the witch doctor for my husband. Both drinks were decent, but I think could have been better balanced. We also got the mushroom pizza which was surprisingly the highlight and the ceviche which was standard. We got a second round of drinks including the blood moon rising and pink river dolphin and the pistachio pizza. It was good but nothing special. Wow, what a night! First time visiting Amazonia and let me tell you, it was an awesome night! There is an eclectic drink menu, not only visually appealing but they taste great as well. What is really unique about the ambiance is the dim lighting (very romantic!) & the fact that this restaurant is actually an old Lakewood home! So unique. The downside is the menu is all small plates, so if you're hungry you may need to order 2 plate to be full like I did. Would love to see larger plates, however I suppose small plates are this place's vibe and I'm cool with that. Would recommend for a night out with friends or a cute date night. Was so excited to see this new trendy cocktail bar/restaurant! Came on a Friday night and even though they were busy, it was super easy to make a reservation the day before with plenty of spots open. There is street parking and hola tacos has some parking too. I surprisingly really enjoyed the pizza! Love the wood fried crust and fun fact I believe the owner or chef actually went to Italy to learn how to perfect pizza! The cocktails were yummy and I love the menu descriptions of the story behind the cocktails. The ants for the "heart of the rainforest" is fun to try and has a teeny crunch but they're also soaked in honey so it didn't taste bad for how daunting as it looked. My husband and I stopped in for cocktails before heading to dinner. We'd been checking out the speakeasy's in Cleveland dna they're hard to come by. Needless to say, We fell in love. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor, the ambiance...perfect![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The cocktails were definitely hand-crafted, unique and tasty! The jungle guardian was amazing! My husband has no complaints about 'the heads will roll.' Our server (I forgot her name) was soooooo knowledgeable and able to make great suggestions based on our individual palates. With the jungle speakeasy vibes, Amazonia is a hidden gem of Lakewood for sure. You enter the establishment and are instantly transported to a new world. It's dimly lit with red mood lighting and along with R&B/lounge background tunes, there are soft animal and cricket noises that make you feel like you're actually in the jungle! The ground level has more bar and lounge style seating, while the upstairs has table seating. We came on a Saturday night and had rounds of drinks - smoke signals & cactus flower were our selections. Each was tasty, unique in flavor, and very spirit forward. To eat, we had the margherita pizza, tacos and tostadas. The food hot and well prepared and service was quick. Our server Daniel took great care of us all night! Come for the vibes, stay for the food, drinks and great atmosphere!! what a cute (really) hidden gem in Lakewood! On the outside, looks like an unassuming duplex with just a small sign in the back. Once you step inside, it's all the speakeasy vibes. It's cozy and warm inside. They really transformed the space! Definitely make a reservation bc it can get crowded. The drinks are super creative and there's something for everyone. For a speakeasy theme I do wish we were able to look for the entrance ourselves instead of being told. Once inside though it was super cute! The drinks were yummy and unique but a tad pricy! The sandwich was good but not to the extent of going back. The edible ant drink was unique. Would only go back if friends are looking for a speakeasy in the area. read more

Made a reservation for 4 people 3 weeks in advance. Give yourself at least 5 minutes to find parking in the area. From the outside you'd never tell there was a swanky place inside. We came to enjoy drinks and the food. They had 4 options for mockails, sweet, floral, sour, and fruity (hope I remembered those correct). Tried the sour and really enjoyed it! The rest of the group also loved their cocktails. All very unique but curated to still be well balanced. Our server Daniel was very nice, attentive, and helpful. We ordered two pizzas, margarita and pistachio and wow were they delicious. The sauce was the star. I wish I could take jars home. Fresh, acidic, salty, just yum. We also ordered the guacamole that was really tasty and the caprese salad that was lovely as well.
