I totally agree with Jeremy K's thinking about how much Foundry on Elm's interior design and atmosphere reminds of Eastern Standard. The red, black and studded silver furnishings, marble countertops , and medium lighting give it a nice ambiance , but its reasonable prices, Davis Square location and laid back bar staff and crowd keep it pretty casual. Its got a cool menu with some items that I can't wait to try ; including the Baked Stuffed Acorn Squash, the Fettucini dish, the roasted local beets or one of their flatbreads from the menu. They happened to have a limited menu the evening I went (night of the blizzard) so that was a bit disappointing...however, the chicken, avocado and chipotle sandwich I settled on was quite tasty and will sure to please the chicken-sandwich lovers and picky eaters alike. The gastropub's beer menu includes some of my craft brew favorites such as the Rapscallion and Great Divide ales on tap; but I was delighted to try something new on draft- and that is my highly recommend Doc's Draft Hard Apple Cider. Crisp and refreshing and not as tart as Magner's. The bar staff is super friendly and fun, so its a great place to go as a solo diner and drinker! Great addition to Davis Square! I have run a few 5Ks in Somerville, and the Foundry on Elm is becoming my post-race go-to spot. The place is HUUUUUMUNGO, and you can usually find a seat right away. The service is prompt and courteous, and the food is good too. Prices are completely reasonable. And if you are lucky enough to be here after the Somerville Jingle Bell run this December, the fun, party-like atmosphere should make you want to come back when the restaurant ISN'T filled to the brim with runners from all over. Oh Foundry, where have you been since I lived in the area. I love this place. Having lived in the area for about 5 years I have gotten pretty tired of the same old places. Then Foundry came along and won me over. The ambiance here is great, feels like a pub, but also a little like a classy hotel bar. The service I have experienced here is wonderful, attentive, professional and not in your face. The beer list is great, a lot of variety local and imported. The cocktails are very good, my favorite is the bees knees. I have been here for drinks, dinner, both together and separately and each time I left, I left fully satisfied and convinced I need to return. I recently got myself interested in charcuterie and the one here was completely satisfying; the meats were terrific and paired well with the assortment of pickles that it came with. Dinner portions are just the right size. I have had a few entrees here and have noticed that the menu changes from time to time. So far everything I've tried here has been great. On weekends this is a tough place to get in, I would recommend a reservation. Even weeknights can be tricky as the place is just that good and one of the few nice places in the neighborhood. read more

Restaurant.. meh. Bar... Maybe. This is more of a bar atmosphere than a dinner place. It was rather loud. They do have tables in the back that is a bit away from the bar area, but still not ideal. The food is very mediocre. The calamari we ordered was a failure for the most part. First the batter didn't really stick on and kinda fell apart, not a good sign. It came with this aioli dip that is just eh, should have just stayed w/ the traditional marinara. The best/worst part of this dish was the deceptive fried slices of lemon. I couldn't tell what it was at first.. zucchini? I poked at it a bit and determined that I wasn't going to take the risk of tasting it. My companion, on the other hand, did not really think it through, and munched away.. his expression was priceless... Anyways, now you're all warned. For entree, I had a white fish of some sort. Rather unremarkable. My companion's salmon was equally unremarkable. With so many other food options available in Sommerville and Cambridge.. why would anyone eat here is beyond me. Probably deserves 2.5, but I'm feeling punitive today so I rounded down. I feel like this place is trying too hard and the service is really lacking. On a recent visit, I asked for toppings for a sandwich on the side bc I have dietary restrictions. When the sammy arrived with everything on top, I politely said I was sorry, but I had asked for things on the side. The runner gave me super attitude and asked if I had told the server that. Um, yeah, I didn't use my telepathy. She then asked me what my restrictions were. I told her and she said she didn't know what was in the toppings, so she didn't know if I could eat them. I explained that that was why I asked for things on the side. I don't know why this was so difficult nor why she faught me on it. Anyway, the waitress watched this exchange and then didn't follow up. She came back later to ask if everything was ok and didn't notice I didn't have food in front of me while everyone else did. When I explained that I was waiting for a replacement, she didn't acknowledge the error or apologize. The food itself is just shy of where it should be for the price point, though the addition of the sandwiches is a good option. The tiny little bowl of ketchup they bring is pretentious. Strawberry shortcake was pretty good. Otherwise, nothing was really remarkable. I'm not in a hurry to return. To put it simply, it's no 5 horses. read more

This place is a fantastic addition to Davis Square. Service has always been great - all the bartenders and wait staff are attentive and friendly, the beer and cocktail list are solid (I've tried some really good new beers here), and I really dig the whole 1920s-ish vibe going on in there. I feel like I should see Al Capone in one corner and Dick Tracy in the other. The food is good, but kind of hit or miss. The Pork Belly appetizer was alright but nothing special. Last time I went I split the mussels (with bacon and garlic and other deliciousness) and had the Grilled Eggplant sandwich. Both were really good, although I was so full afterward I actually felt nauseous. Either I ate way too much or the eggplant sandwich was too oily. Word to the wise - don't go overboard with bread on the mussel broth! Everything is surprisingly affordable here too so you don't have to turn to the mob for a favor to get outta here alive. If you want yourself one heckuva night, class it up a bit and start at Foundry, then go two doors down to Sligo for a complete 180 and get some dirt cheap PBR. Can't do much better! read more

Really, three and a half stars; Foundry is a great addition to Davis Square, but it may not have lived up to all of my expectations. Their cocktail menu may still need a spellcheck, but it's good, and nice to know I can get a solid Sazerac anytime close to home. I love it when a place has bar-snacking options, like Foundry's fabulous poutine, but it'd be nice if the kitchen didn't close as early as it does (11 on weekdays last I tried?). With the diverse beer list they have going on, it'd be great to get a decent burger -- yet I've been disappointed by its dryness, and for the price, I definitely expect more. Worse was the 'croque-monsieur': they're trying to pass a very plain, dry, toasted ham-and-cheese sandwich off as something it's not, which is pretty disappointing if you're hoping for bechamel on top and copious gruyere. I've tried the spaetzle and it was rich & delicious, but frankly I wanted Foundry to treat their cheaper options with just as much good-tasting reverence as they do those higher-end plates. Let's be honest: We're in Davis Square. There's a high percentage of cheapsakte twentysomethings and college-aged kids; you have to be ready to please them too. So I'm still excited about Foundry, but less as my neighborhood dinner-date destination, and more as a place to head to meet for drinks & nosh on poutine, which has been incredibly perfected since opening weekend, and is infinitely gravied, cheese curded and scallioned up to achieve true deliciousness. read more

This was my second 3rd time at foundry's but only my first time actually being served. the first two times i went there each group i was with decided to leave because they thought the place was lame. i've heard friends rave about the omelets and breakfast so i went after some yoga to check it out. we made reservations and were seated pretty promptly. the seats were comfortable, but a big thing i enjoy doing is breakfast without shoes.. being a bit higher off the ground was annoying because i had to drop my shoes, but hey, can't knock them stars for this. i ordered the irish breakfast, my gf and our friend split the french toast and the poached eggs. i can't personally speak for their meal since i was sick and didn't try any of it. but my irish breakfast wasn't bad. i'de say 12 is slightly on the expensive side for this dish, but really, not that far off. i was hesitant to try the omelets as they didn't have too many options and what they were offering wasn't making my mouth water. i'll have to give it another try for breakfast, but i won't be rushing back anytime soon... foundry's is nice if you're going on a breakfast/brunch date, or possibly taking family out or what not... personally, if i want some good breakfast i hit up a diner or make it myself. i have yet to be truly WOWED by eggs and the sorts for breakfast. read more

I've been here a few times and it's always been okay. The servers and bar staff are great! I've had one bad apple waitress, but the rest were fantastic. The last time I was here it was a bit disappointing. The waitress seemed pissed that she had to wait on us. I picked up the vibe, and my boyfriend nudged me and said "Uh, she doesn't like us." She clearly didn't want to be there, but the cold attitude wasn't necessary since we weren't flagging her down or being pesky. We started with calamari, which was okay. I had a caesar salad, he had a burger. This is where it gets awesome--it was Valentine's Day and we both went home with stomach aches. In another review, i talked about a new coffee shop, Jaho in the South End calling it 'as Davis Square as the South End gets." Great place. This restaurant is as 'South End' as Davis Square gets. Please read my other reviews and know that I'm fair and reasonable. So, with that I'll say "THIS PLACE TOTALLY SUCKS." Lets start with the service. Now, you cannot guage a restaurant on one visit, when the service sucks. I always go at least twice before I write a bad review. Went the second time and the service was worse. I actually talked to the people next to me at the bar about it. They agreed. Also, this place is chocked full of hipsters who not only think the world revolves around them--I can handle that--these hipsters think it's inconceivable that the rest of the world doesn't also think the world revolves around them. Unique and seasonal food and drink menus make The Foundry more than your average gastro-pub! RELIEVED: Simple, seasonal food menu. This exudes confidence in what they are offering. Drink menu was unique and seasonally tailored as well. DRANK: Pre-lunch cocktail was the Autumn Star. Pumpkin-infused bourbon, bitters, and sugar, garnished with star anise. This bourbon was wonderful. The pumpkin came in gently on the finish. Post-lunch beer was the Christoffel Nobel, which I've never had. Perfect 11.2 ounce pour of a pale lager. EATS: Meze Plate was unique! Had the usual hummus, but topped with a garlic puree, accompanied by wonderful marinated mushrooms, and a sort of zucchini spaghetti. Turkey Thanksgiving sandwich. Open face usually scares me, but this went down easily. I could taste the bacon fat in the gravy - thank you! Parisian Gnocchi - HEAVEN. Perfectly cooked gnocchi, quick flash fry for a slight crisp, spaghetti acorn squash in the shell, brussel sprouts - ATE IT ALL!!! SERVER: Andrew. I guess Foundry on Elm has lost its appeal as the 'hip place to go.' I had heard awhile ago that it was a place that was hard to get into. I showed up here around 11 on a Friday night and it was pretty empty (which is actually kind of nice--there were plenty of options of tables to sit at). Most under rated brunch in all of Davis Square. I have been to this establishment a total of six times now. Three times for dinner/drinks. Three times for brunch. It is like night and day between the two. I am giving the five stars based on just the brunch and the atmosphere. I would recommend sharing the beignets. They serve it with either a lemon curd or a warm chocolate sauce. Also the Monte Cristo sandwich is excellent. Melty and crispy Guyere cheese, black forest ham, buttery toasted bread and a perfectly cooked fried egg on top. Everything on their brunch menu is solid. Although, I wouldn't mind if they changed is up a little (keep the beignets please). Maybe after people realize that they make a killer brunch? read more

There a lot of mixed reviews about Foundry On Elm, but let me tell you that this place is worth the visit. The staff was great (a manager even stopped by to see how our visit was), the food was above par and the ambiance is some of the best you're going to get in Davis Square. The service is spot on. The hosts were friendly and there were never any moments when I thought our server had forgotten about us. The food was delicious. Great bread basket and butter (this does matter) and I had the confit pork belly for an appetizer. While I did wish the pork was a bit more moist, the combination with the frisee, arugula and pickled grapes (wow!) made it a great pick. I ordered the shrimp etouffe for my entree and it did not disappoint. Very flavorful and great portion size. And the accompanying fried okra and hush puppies were spectacular. For desert I had a sorbet trio of lemon, raspberry and mango with ginger cookies. A perfect end that doesn't make you feel over-the-top full. And this place has a great beer and wine menu. This place is great for anyone (foodie or not) looking for a good meal. It's a casual atmosphere where you wear jeans and a flannel shirt or dress up a little if you want. It's not stuffy at all. My only recommendation would be a little dimmer lighting. I went on a Saturday with a reservation and would recommend doing so for anyone going on a weekend because this place was packed with a wait just about all night long. Ambiance: packed and loud. not a good place to meet up over dinner and talk...well unless you are into yelling. Service: food came out pretty quickly for how packed it was (Saturday night). Main Dinner item: okay. Nothing really special but nothing terrible either. Desserts: Outstanding. We split the creme brule, chocolate flan, and strawberry rhubarb and they were all really tasty. Price: I would say a little expensive for nothing really great. Overall this place might be good to come early, but I personally like to talk to the people I am eating with and yelling just isnt my style. Oh and at one point in our dinner 3 people asked us if we wanted more beer which was nice, but then we started wondering who our server was and if they were confused or something. I dont think I will come back due to how loud the place was. If the place wasnt so loud and it was about $5 cheaper per person I would probably go again. The first half of Foundry on Elm faces the street is the bar, which extends about 20 feet back and is nearly always busy. We were jostled the entire walk back to our table so if you are not into crowds you may want to rethink this location or try dining earlier in the week. However, if your philosophy is the more the merrier - you'll enjoy the energy the Foundry exudes. The menu is very approachable both in terms of selection and pricing; dinner for two with a shared appetizer, two main plates and a shared dessert (no tax, tip or drinks included) will cost approximately $55-$60. The menu is divided into appetizers ($7-$14); salads ($8-$15); sandwiches ($10-$13); several flatbreads all $14; a small raw bar selection; main dishes ($17-$28 - with roughly half the options in the high teens); and desserts ($7-$8). I was impressed by how helpful and attentive our waiter was and by how good the food tasted. We started with a shared appetizer of the fried calamari ($13) which was a tad too salty for my liking on its own, but delicious with the aioli, apple-pepper relish, and fried basil leaves which accompanied the starter. For dinner we tried the linguine "White Clam" which also included mussels, chilies, garlic, oregano, and a buttery clam sauce for $18. As well as the fish special $22 - which was a pan seered artic char atop a borst sauce (a beet puree with chicken stock) accompanied by brussel sprouts, leeks and yellow beets. Portions for dinner were reasonable and we left The Foundry very content. The flavors of the food all worked together and left us more than satisfied. I have been looking forward to coming to this place for a while, I guess it's called a "gastropub"? Anyway, the drink selection was awesome and the beer is served in those can shapes glasses. The dining room is a bit open, could use some partitions for more privacy, but the bar area is amazing. The whole place has a "Mad Men" sort of feel. We ordered poutine as the appetizer. We felt it was lacking in flavor, which should never be the case for any dish that is comprised of cheese, gravy and French fries. For the meal, we ordered steak frites and the ham sandwich. Both were delicious. The ham sandwich was very rich, almost too rich, to the point where I could only have a couple bites. A little heavy on the butter. The salad had a really great mustard dressing, I am assuming/hoping was made in house. Great food if you are looking for a comfort and pretty gluttonous meal. read more

We live in Davis sq. and don't frequent Foundry. We have had meals in there. Brunch, dinner but we usually stop for a drink when the rest of the bars/restaurants in the area are full. It is a nice room and a great big bar. The menu is dull and cliché, but the worst part of this place is the 8oz mason jars that the beer is served in. You are paying between $6 and $10 for 8oz of beer. Beer should be served in a pint glass, or another vessel should a specific beer style dictate it. This is such a cheap skate and needlessly trendy move. Buck the trend Foundry. Bring back the proper pint. read more

I like the general atmosphere. It has a good layout for people watching. Draws a crowd of people in their mid to late 20s and 30s, which isn't all too common for Davis Square, so that's nice. I've had a couple bad experiences with bartenders, but more often than not the bartenders are nice and enjoyable people. It's a very long bar, so sometimes it's hard to catch someone's attention. Cocktails are good, I usually have the Davis Sour. They also have a good draught selection. Food is meh. I've had a salad and fries. The main reason I go back to this middle of the road place is because I like being in Davis Square, and it has a bit more class and sophistication than some of the other places on the block. read more

The owner was a manager at Temple Bar in Cambridge for about 15 years, according to our waitress. Makes sense because they have similar decor. However, the food and drink here is not yet at the caliber of Temple Bar. I think they have some strong menu items. The wait staff are great. They replaced the cocktail that tasted terrible right away no problem. I'm not going to give up on this place yet, I think it is up and coming. read more

Foundry on Elm is a welcome addition to the Davis Square restaurant scene. They have a fairly skilled bar staff and a nice cocktail menu and large beer selection. Foundry introduced me to kentucky bourbon barrel ale (amazing!) - which i was quite happy to get to know, especially since i'm from kentucky. they have a large food menu with tons of interesting and delicious dishes. always a few things with some interesting ingredients, which i like to see. and they do a great job on the presentation. i've never had anything bad at Foundry, but they also have never completely knocked my sox off either. hence the four stars out of five. that said, i cook a ton at home, so i'm probably a tough customer. Foundry has become a sort of back-up kitchen for my husband and me. when we're too lazy too cook at home, we go to Foundry because we know we'll get a good cocktail and decent meal for a reasonable price. it's a step up from the other american restaurants in davis without being overpriced. glad to have foundry in the square! read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting his brother's family last weekend and they took us out to The Foundry for dinner on Saturday night. What a fantastic place! The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, with mirrors in all the right places and a semi-open kitchen. The food was delicious - we started out with a cheese plate and a couple of orders of bacon-wrapped dates. Who doesn't love bacon-wrapped anything? Our entrees were all just as good. I ordered the seasonal pumpkin flat bread, but also tried the salmon and the pear-and-arugula flat bread. The portion sizes were perfect, or if anything, on the large side. Our server (Blake) was perfect. He had that right balance of being attentive without being obtrusive, and in spite of the Saturday night hecticness, remained friendly and calm. They also had a great wine list. The next time we're in the area this place will definitely be high on our list of places to visit. read more

Yet another middling quality Somerville/Cambridge bistro-style restaurant. I was impressed that their menu sticks to the French classics without doing fusion or deconstructed versions of them, but the execution is only okay. The poutine, which was the reason I went, had shredded cheese melted on it instead of cheese curds, and the bacon gravy tasted unpleasantly of bacon bits, not real bacon. I decided to get a mussel appetizer for dinner rather than take a chance on the more expensive (but more appealing) boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin being mediocre. The mussels were unimpressive, and they are a hard thing to screw up. The broth was too watery (needed more cream) and didn't add any flavor to the mussels except spiciness from the chilis. I'm glad I didn't splurge on anything fancier. The beer list was on the small side, and priced a bit higher than I'm used to, but the beers were well-chosen and good. All in all, it is okay food, but expensive. The restaurant was also noisy from the bar (on a Saturday night, so fair enough), which the management decided to cover up by pumping up the music really loud. The effect was unpleasant. read more

Wow. So impressed with this place. Let's start with the ambiance, very cool and classy inside. We had a 6:15 reservation but they seated us when we got there at 6, love it. Our waiter was friendly and funny. Pretty decent on tap beer list (Foundry an Elm Ale was good) and my wife says she loved the mixed drinks. Now let me get to the part that I am really excited to talk about - the food. I ordered the catch of the day which happened to be grilled red snapper on coconut polenta with cucumber (and I think mango) puree. Mango and cucumber slices were placed on top. I can't even describe how good this dish was. The fish was cooked perfectly and all the flavors of the fish, polenta and puree worked together so well. When I finished eating it, I wanted to personally thank the chef for allowing me to taste this dish. It was really something special. It is definitely one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. Foundry on Elm - Smoky Grilled Cheese and Tomato Basil Soup, Devils on Horseback, asparagus & goat cheese pizzette - Bars Near Me - Somerville, Massachusetts

I've been there twice now, and while I enjoyed the food (the falafel is particularly good), it was bad service both times and I won't be going back. The first time, service started out fine with the server being friendly; the moment we didn't order alcohol, however, the server became grumpy. Service went from quick to ridiculously slow - I tried to catch his eye several times as he walked by our table, and he never even glanced at us - despite serving the tables on either side of us quickly. The second time, I stopped in for desert and drinks. To start out, there were two servers standing at the host's podium chatting. One of them glanced at us, and then went back to his conversation; when we asked for a desert menu, the other one floundered a bit before a server came over and handled us. As a side note, those two stood by the podium chatting and doing nothing pretty much the whole night. My dining partner and I each ordered one drink and desert, and when we failed to order a second round, our waitress became grumpy. She was better than the other server in that she still served us swiftly, but she made her bad mood very obvious when she stood at the hosts podium next to our table, and slammed a stack of menu's into twice, loudly, while staring at our table. While the food was good, I won't be going back again if I have to deal with service like that. There are plenty of places that have food just as good, but a far better experience. read more

Quite a happening little scene Davis has going on! I've been looking for a bar that was classier than Joshua Tree, brighter than Burren and bigger than Gargoyle's for some time now. "What about Orleans?" you're saying, but shut up for a second. Foundry on Elm is where it's at. The servers and bar staff have been attentive every time I've come in. Friendly, knowledgeable and considerate - knowing just when to step in and just when to leave you to your party. It was a little crowded when I came back on Saturday, but the bartender spotted my girlfriend and I in the crowd and made sure to take care of us. And the beer prices? Very nice. I've seen crappier bars with higher list prices for domestic beer. They probably make it back on the food, but I haven't eaten here yet. Protip: a perfect pour of Guinness. Between these guys and the Burren I'm spoiled for choice now. read more

The Foundry is a total crowd pleaser--perfect for group outings. I went for my third time last night, and I've found the food and drinks to be consistently delicious. There are lots of big booths, the decor is both kitschy and classic, and there are menu offerings at a range of price points. Last night, I had the fries with cheese and bacon gravy...and I might need to order them on every visit from now on. I also had the bacon and egg pizza. Went here for dinner last night with my fiancee and another couple. Made an 8pm reservation on OpenTable. Arrived on time and was told by hostess that our table would be ready shortly. We wait at the bar. 30 minutes later, we're still not seated, so I ask the hostess again why the delay. She apologizes and informs me they're "slow in turning around tables", and we're next. Apparently "next" meant waiting another 20 minutes before being taken to our table. Thus, for an 8pm reservation, we weren't seated until 8:50pm. I was willing to let go of this delay...until our waiter started attending to us. It was obvious he was either very inexperienced and/or completely incompetent. Lacked basic customer service skills. Struggled with taking our orders. Poured water into my 1/2 full pint of beer! Took him over 30 minutes and multiple reminders to bring over my friend's glass of wine. After what happened to my friend, I had enough. I asked the hostess if I could speak to the manager. The manager comes over and I explain everything that has made our experience less than desirable. He apologizes profusely, explains that there was a "glitch" with OpenTable that resulted in them accepting a large # of 8pm reservations when they clearly didn't have capacity, and their hostesses had taken their walk-in patrons ahead of those w/ reservations. He then apologizes for our waiter, albeit unprofessionally by going into detail "problems" with this waiter (while the waiter was standing right next to him!). It was clear to me that the manager was not, um, competent, although he was sincerely apologetic and said the entire dinner was on the house. After that point, he sent pretty much every other waiter/ress to our table to service us and make sure our needs were met every few minutes. It was an overreaction to being called out for their shortcomings and it ended up being awkward and even a bit annoying. It's unfortunate that all of this took away from the fact that the food was actually quite good and reasonably priced. However, don't expect me to make dinner plans there ever again -- I strongly feel Foundry on Elm is much better suited as a bar than a restaurant. read more

Oh Foundry, work out a few of your kinks and you and I will be great friends. Since you've opened less than two weeks ago, I can understand that you're still settling in and figuring out what's what. Though for being open for such a short time, I'm extremely pleased to report that you seemed pretty comfortable with the hoards of patrons on Saturday evening. With dinner res for 4 people on a Saturday night, we arrived within minutes of our alloted time and were seated within five minutes - got to walk past the sea of people to a four-top right on the border of the dining area and the bar. And while it was understandably bustling for a Saturday night, I didn't appreciate the crazy jostling from ooglers at the bar and the waitstaff. My companions and I all had our elbows bumped on several occasions and it made me wish we were sitting pretty in one of the booths up against the wall. The decor was spot on. It made me forget I was in Davis Square! Beautiful floor tiles, nice red leather booths - dark wood trim. Lovely! It's hard to remember what the Bowl and Board space used to look like. Quite the transformation! The waitstaff was spot on and seemed to be handling to the crowd quite well. The manager even stopped by our table (and from the looks of it, every other table) to check in. The drink menu was lovely. Lots of really nice looking cocktails, but I had to go with a beer - I mean, isn't that the whole deal? A nice array of draughts and bottles - all reasonably priced. The food was delightful! Nice fresh oysters from Duxbury. A nice small dinner menu - but with lots of delicious options. The salmon? Yum. The half roasted chicken was great. The fettucini dish (with chicken and brocollini) was in a great sauce, but one of my dining companions was bummed to see there were only two of three pieces of chicken in the dish. The grilled chicken sandwich was also nice - though the avocado accompanying the dish was extremely under ripe. (Unpleasantly so). The Foundry is an okay spot, in a fairly nice part of Somerville. It's definitely popular among locals, and was packed on a Tuesday night. Parking isn't easy to find and you'll likely have to pay. Thankfully the fees are pretty cheap. Our waitress was friendly, but man oh man, was the service slow. We had a group of about eight, but it took well over an hour for our food to come out once we'd finally ordered. I had the baby spinach salad with chicken, which I'm pretty sure had been sitting a while since the chicken was very dry. The rest was fairly flavorful. I had a bite of someone's poutine, which was delicious. I also got to try a bite of the smoky grilled cheese - also fantastic. I looked at the desserts but really didn't want to wait another long time for something to come out, so I opted against it. Overall this place was fine but they need to work on getting meals out faster because a 2.5 hour dinner was not what we all had in mind! I went to Foundry on Elm for lunch with my coworkers last week, and the experience was generally very good. Our server was totally charming and very attentive without hovering, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was on the upscale side without feeling stuffy. We split a meze plate and an order of poutine as appetizers - and right away let me tell you that the poutine was as delicious as anything I've eaten in Quebec. The meze plate was good overall, though we didn't expect it to have weird chicken pate (with what seemed like beets in it?) included... we'd ordered it for the vegans in the group, but OH WELL. They ate around it. That's what they get for being vegans... My entree was a curried chicken salad sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was good, and I liked the inclusion of some sliced avocado on top. I do wish there had been a LITTLE bit more oomph to it, though... for something with curry spices in it, it was only moderately flavorful. Still, I think I'd happily order it again. Overall, this place is relatively reasonably priced (~$70 for lunch for 4 with two appetizers) and it has a very welcoming feel. I have a feeling I'll be back! read more

I must say they have improved their vegetarian options here. I would kill for their pickled vegetables. The mixed drinks and beer selection is fantastic, the service is consistently terrific, and this place continues to be my favorite place to go out in Davis. read more

So if you are vegan or vegetarian, don't go there. They don't cater to you. Sure, if you ask, they can make something for you (plate of beans) but they don't have anything on the menu for vegans and only one option for vegetarians. It's a place meant for meat eaters. read more

Yes, it's on the pricey side. And yes, it's often crowded. But I love the chic decor inside and the smooth music selection. I'm also a giant fan of their Moscato wine and ports - which a lot of bars around don't carry. Their clams are bomb too. One of my major issues with this place though is the length of wait time for drink and food orders. Any time the waitress approaches us, I feel like I have to put my order in right away - otherwise it's another 20 minute wait before I see her again. I highly recommend this bar - maybe I'll see you there! read more
