Maybe the most colorful pool in the Park!…read more Viewed from the Overlook, The Grand Prismatic Spring had such dramatic colors: deep blue in the center, then going through the rainbow to a red rim. It's a vast 300-ft across. You get the best view from the overlook. The colors are wondrous just as they really are. Many of the photos we saw before are amped up with increased vibrance and saturation, which really isnt necessary. We got to the parking lot around 10am on a weekday. The parking lot was completely full, so we waited around 15min for enough cars leave for those waiting to get spaces. This was the place where we wished we had gotten an earlier start in the morning. It was about a 15-min walk from the parking lot to the trailhead. From the trailhead, it was about a 30-min flat and moderately-uphill 3/4-mile boardwalk, finishing with another quarter-mile up a rather steep hill with no handrails or rope-guides. Then there were ten steps at the very end up to the viewing platform. Some of our group could not manage that hike, which is why i took one star off of this lovely view. The Park is pretty good at setting up access without harming the park or the experience, so we'd like them to figure out something here. Even railings and benches would help a lot.

Just about every shop has souvenirs of all sorts for you to buy. *West Yellowstone Visitor Information Center is in town, this is not located in the National Park - very helpful and informative staff *The entrance to Yellowstone National Park is really close-by, about ¼ mile away or so. *Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center - small admission fee, but well worth it and tickets are good for two consecutive days. We went for part of one day, but wished we had time to go again. *Museum of the Yellowstone - there's a small fee to enter. We didn't go in, but we did walk along the front to view the vehicles, buffalo and bear sculptures. Nice small town with plenty of things to do before & after visiting Yellowstone National Park!

But thus, if you're trying to get on to this street, you gotta carefully look all 3 ways farther down (not just left and right, but also across the street if someone else is also trying to get on to this street); don't have any red lights to hold the traffic for you, like at the Electric St intersection.

The walk to three geysers is around 45min round trip on boardwalks among pools, springs, steaming mudpots and fumaroles. Most are not very colorful. A lot of greys, tans, chalky colors, huffing and puffing. Some reddish hues. The pool and the spring are a lovely clear blue, when their steam is not obscuring them from view. It was easier to see the blue color in the further-north Silex Spring, which you can also see from the road. It's all geologically and volcanically amazing. Interspersed, there are groves of live pines, and groves of skeletal trees with their bases stained white by evaporating mineral waters. Parking is just south of Fountain Paint Pot. It wasn't too crowded at 10:20am on a Wednesday. (Jul 2026).

The plowers called the cops and Sheriff Newell showed up and brought peace to the scene and treated us with the utmost respect. he defused the situation better than anyone and gave us a personal escort on a sketchy road back to safety. Then they came out to give me a charge in about 30 seconds and then came out with a bigger charger about 30 more seconds after that. They then brought the mechanic out to help me. When that didn't work they put me in their hanger and brought a heater and put it right next to my airplane. They then gave us coffee and treats. They refused a tip. I've never been treated so nicely with such professionalism. Jackson Aviation is amazing.

This review is for Upper Geyser Basin & Old Faithful Observation Point Loop which was a ~4.9 miles…read moreround trip that took ~2.5 hours to complete. This was one of those unique hikes with various geysers and pools. The trails are located within walkable distances from the Old Faithful hotels and visitor center. Ideally, it would be best to start the hike early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Most of the trail consisted of flat boardwalks and paved asphalt. The boardwalks were icy in some spots during the morning. Observation Point part of the trail was somewhat pointless because there was no "wow factor" in terms of any view. It was still a nice stroll in the wooded areas, eventually reaching Solitary Geyser. Furthermore, this part of the trail had some inclines and declines. The steam from the geysers have an unpleasant sulfur smell. Carry bear spray; the chances of encountering a bear is lower at popular trails but you never know. Step off the plane and there you are in some of the most beautiful country you've ever seen. Views are gorgeous! It was very easy for us to find our way around here. We had checked a bag and it was out on the carousel in a timely manner. Everyone was super friendly. Signage was nicely placed and easy to follow. Restrooms were clean. They even sell bear spray! Loved that the rental cars were right there too, didn't have to take a shuttle to get to them!

I had an interesting experience in this airport. On the way in (came from Denver), we had no issues…read more- it was hazy/rainy but we landed on time (a little early actually) and deplaned and came inside fast. The airport was fairly sparse that Thursday morning I arrived, so I was able to pick up a bear spray rental and my rental car pretty much immediately. I like the warm cozy cabin vibe here - they even have a real fireplace on the far west wall and it does have some snack shops and a couple restaurants with a large bar despite being a small airport. The staff were also really nice. Now when I was flying back out it was a bit of a different story. I also flew to Denver, and my flight was supposed to leave @3:30p. I came to the airport very early (around 10:30a) and right around noon I got a text that my flight was delayed until 7p. I was flying delta and would miss my connection so I ran to the counter to check options. One other delta flight was leaving @1:45 so I requested to move. Lo and behold, MANY others wanted the same thing. They ended up massively overbooking the plane which was already weight limited and had to requested over 50 volunteers take another flight. That plane ended up being delayed by several hours because of (1) the oversell issue, and then (2) a sudden thunderstorm (had been crystal clear skies right before then), and then (3) some folks wanting to get off but couldn't because lightning had struck the tarmac and everyone had to stay inside/wait for the storm to hopefully pass. We were delayed until like 4:30pm, but did eventually leave with the plane roughly half full. Thankfully my layover in Denver was like 5 hours so I ended up still making my connection, but only by a few minutes. The pilot had said before we left that "this is typical Jackson summer," so sounds like surprise storms and monster delays is pretty frequent... it's not the airport's fault but it being small/the planes being small and weight dependent does contribute. I think overall it's a super cute airport but I guess would rec only flying in/out during times when you have some cushion time!
