Yes, in 2018 our DFW Metroplex is still growing and expanding, it strengths our economy and brings opportunities for many. Which is not horrible. But how lovely is it to have a quiet and serene place that's refreshing in nature and only a few minutes to get to. Located on the Northeast corner of Ross & Field Street. There are payable street meters on Ross or free 15 minute parking in the empty Fastsigns lot across the street. Grab your camera, maybe a Sammie & frozen mocha drink and sit down on one of Fountain Places benches and chill. They even have a handicap ramp now for those in a wheelchair, so everyone can enjoy a bit of relaxing Zen. This is probably my 3rd visit over the past 5 years since I found this place. Half of the fountain area is currently under construction, so I will be back when it's all completed. But there is still plenty to see and enjoy. Do yourself a favor, step into the Fountain Place and hear the soothing sounds of water. With modest bubbling spouts to numerous waterfalls, there is a calming effect that this peaceful spot excudes. And with the temperature dropping a good 10 degrees as the big trees shade piercing summer heat, it only helps to bring down the existing heat index. It's kinda a romantic place too. Pretty pretty! I had a short while to walk around Dallas (bring a jacket - it gets COLD in January and February) and wanted to see something free and nearby. Close to my employer, I go through the Fountain Park at least once a week. This is a good place to sit on a park bench, catch your breath, and collect your thoughts. Security hired by Fountain Place office building keep the park of dancing fountains a safe habitat to collect your thoughts and catch your breath without fear of being abducte or having your cell phone jacked. However, if you're walking the sidewalk nearby outside of Fountain Place, keep all your valuables zippered up or someone could and might rip your cell phone right out of your hand and take off running. I know two people who lost their cell phone in the past week in such a fashion. Back to fountains: They're lovely, well-maintained, and the sound of all that rushing water can erase a lot of stress out of your life. read more

Oh my gosh! This place is beautiful. I was recently in Dallas for a friend's wedding and she had her ceremony here and her reception at the Avanti restaurant in the building. Just an awesome location for a wedding. Only issue for me was that they have one of those open fountains that comes out of the ground, no fence around it at all, and my son and husband were asked to stay back from it. I'm used to seeing kids play in fountains like that. The security guard was nice about it, but I still found it a little odd. read more

I think this is one of the nicest places to work downtown. The building is well kept, with highly functioning elevators and updated infrastructure. The surroundings on the first floor are great for taking a break and clearing your mind. The fountains are well maintained and it is a really peaceful atmosphere for anyone coming to visit. Both shade and sun can be found for those who care in cooler/warmer times. The building has a deli on B1, as well as a dry cleaner, post office, shoe shine and massage chair. One 5 there is an Au Bon Pain with fresh coffee and the like. A hot spot in the building almost every am. Avanti Fountain Place is a sit down resturant on the first floor and its.. OK. I worked in Fountain Place when it first opened in 1986. It was the most unique and innovative architectural structure that downtown Dallas had seen in a long time. It still stands tall, sleek, and beautiful today. I think my favorite thing about Fountain Place is the water gardens for which the building is named. When it first opened, Dallasites hadn't seen anything like it: the enormous prism of glass surrounded by an urban garden of water that flows over terraced cement and around potted trees. Nearby, a contagion of synchronized water choreography performs a seemingly impromptu recital from a series of holes cut in the marble, laid out in the shape of a linear vegetable garden. If you sit and observe it long enough, you will begin to see the cyclical pattern repeat itself. It has a hypnotic and relaxing effect. In the heat of the summer, kids would run and play in the water, squealing when they received a surprise spraying. You couldn't help but laugh at them. Adults who would get too close sometimes got caught off guard and, thus, ended up wet. Occasionally they would get mad, but mostly they would laugh. As beautifully as the building is designed, with it's elegant glass facade, the architects overlooked one nearly fatal design flaw...the building's steeply pitched angles. The exterior is a carved away design, ensuring it's 10 sides give the structure a unique appearance from every direction. What they forgot to factor in was Dallas' winter weather and, more specifically, ice storms. The first winter freeze allowed enormous sheets of solid ice to form on the building's giant angled surfaces. As the temperature rose above freezing, thus loosening the ice from the glass exterior, the first huge sheet came sliding down and shattered when it hit the sidewalk, narrowly missing those of us who were walking below as we attempted to enter the building for work. Many of us went straight inside to the building's management office to let them know what had happened. When I came out for lunch later that day, a huge portion of the surrounding public space had been marked off with orange traffic cones and yellow police tape. I think it's safe to say that while many of us narrowly escaped death or serious injury, I. M. Pei and Partners also avoided a costly law suit that could have put them out of business. If you are into celebrity, or have no life of your own, you might be interested to know that some scenes from the television show Dallas were shot here. Apparently, J. R. Ewing's fictitious office was supposed to be in this building, so they were frequently shooting in the lobby. It was annoying for those of us who worked here because they must have complete silence when filming. The floors were marble, and we were all dressed in business suits and high heels or dress shoes. There is no possible way to walk on marble in dress shoes or high heels without making some noise, so we were all forced to be mute, tip-toeing around in our stocking feet, dodging the film crew with shoes in hand...waiting until we got outside of the lobby doors before we could speak or put our shoes back on to go out for lunch, use the elevators, or any other time we had to enter or leave the lobby. One should never have to witness senior management in sock feet. It takes away from their air of authority and managerial competence. I am reminded of this every time I go to the airport and am forced to walk around in socks or bare feet while my shoes are scanned for plastic explosive (as if any woman is gonna blow up her favorite pair of Jimmy Choos!) But, I digress... Fountain Place is one of the most interesting architectural structures that I have seen anywhere in the world, and here it graces the skyline of little ol Big D. It's gorgeous, day or night. If the weather is nice and you're downtown, grab some lunch to-go and head over to the water garden. It's a great spot to soak up some sunshine, relax, and recharge your battery before you head back into the land of florescent light and cubicle monotony. read more

This area is beautiful. In the summertime I would imagine the fountains are on but during the winter time it's a different kind of pretty. The leaves have fallen from the trees but the bare branches give a very scenic look too. It's a big area to walk around and explore. read more

I was dining with a colleague at The Avanti Ristorante located at The Fountain Place in Dallas, Texas (Downtown, on Ross Avenue) . I had a wonderful experience at the restaurant just as I have always had many times before at this grand place. Afterwards, I ventured out into the Fountain area of the building just as I have in so many previous years in order to show my colleague the wonderful Fountains of water associated with this building at Fountain Place. I was met by a man wearing black suit reportedly a "security guard" and was informed that people are no longer able to "play in the water". I have been coming to Fountain Place for years and have enjoyed the excitement and fun related to the experience of "playing with water" and have enjoyed watching so many people, families, children play in this wonderful fountain of water. This is just a beautiful place for lovers taking a romantic stroll in the evening. This is hidden right in the heart of downtown Dallas, in fact, I've passed it hundreds of times for 10 years, but, never noticed it. It is a wonderful place to visit at night, since the individual fountains and waterfalls are lit up. I have only one minor complaint, that it is so loud due to all the running water. Do not expect a quiet place to read a book and ponder the brevity of life. Rather, take your date or your kids and enjoy the scenery. There is even a restaurant at the spot, that happened to be closed when we visited. That seems to be the ideal way to enjoy the area. I recommend a visit, at least once. read more

Looking for some places to see around Dallas, I came across Fountain Place. What could be better than fountains, pools, and trees in a concrete urban setting?? It would be a beautiful place to work near-- I'd eat outside often and enjoy the calming music of the fountains. I bet it would be gorgeous on a sunny day... However, it was a partly cloudy day. By far one of the top buildings in the downtown landscape. You can see it from miles away, and it has a keen sense of what an upper scale building should look and feel like. The building is surrounded by over a hundred fountains. Additionally, it has underground access to the fairmont, as well as 2 starbucks. Great location on the edge of downtown. read more

I took my little sisters here and they were told by security to stay away from the fountain that didn't have a wall around it because many important business men come here from all over the world. Fountain Place is extremely cool. Very nice waterscapes, waterfalls and spouts. Really nice place to chill. Just don't try to take any pictures. My rating is due to the photography policies and over officious rent a cops at Fountain Place. I stopped by there to take some photos and I had no more than gotten the camera out of the bag when a Barney Fife began verbally assaulting me and telling me to leave. Barney stated "no cameras with detachable lens are allowed on the property grounds". WTF ? If he had approached me with any amount of respect, courtesy or discretion I would have apologized and left quietly. But this jackass yelled at me from distance and continued to berate me as he approached. He continued to verbally assault me as I walked up the steps leading out. That caused me to respond in kind and make a loud unnecessary scene. As a show of defiance, I retrieved my tripod and Canon 300mm lens from the car. I setup on the public sidewalk and took pictures of the fountains and waterscapes from a distance. A different security dork came out and asked me to leave. He tried standing in front of me, obscuring my line of sight. A couple minutes later DPD shows up. Security told them I was trespassing and refused to leave. DPD officer sided with me in that I was in a pubic place, on a public sidewalk and causing no harm or interference. At that I laughed at the security jerk, thanked the DPD officer, picked up my gear and proceeded to the car. Fountain Place can EAD. read more

This is a beautiful place to stop and chill if you work downtown, or are in the area. It is shaded, and the fountains are very calming. There are a few tables to eat at, and also benches. It is basically a courtyard of a skyscraper, but people are in and out all day.it's clean and inviting. read more

Props to Fountain place Bldg. This is a really nice place to work. It has great ammenities, like Au bon Pain (even though a little pricey for whatcha get), a Deli in the basement, a drop off for mail, a Dry cleaners, and a restuarant, named Avanti. On nice days, you can go outside and sit by the fountains,eat lunch and relax. This bldg is located by Woodall rodgers and not far from 75 and or 35. A stones throw from the West end, so if offers many pluses. The structure itself is very unique. Makes working here, really enjoyable. read more

Take the kids here if you are staying in downtown Dallas. There is a water fountain that pushes water from the ground upwards that's fun for the kids and relaxing for adults. Go to the coffee shop at the bottom and have a snack and drink. read more

As I think one other reviewer below stated, the rules at the fountain appear to have changed since other people have mentioned that this is a great place to go to cool off and let children play....children are most definitely 100% NOT allowed anywhere near the water anymore. My 11year old happened to put his hand in one of the water spouts coming out of the floor and he was practically frog-marched over to where we were sitting by an extremely over-bearing and officious rent-a-cop who have us a lecture about not touching the water, the dangers of brain injury and how we needed to manage our children. I would point out that these are the exact same water spouts that many cities have installed specifically for children to play in and reading the reviews here children were allowed to play in them here until very recently, which makes the security guard's manner and tone even more unnecessary. If you are single and it's hot weather and want to sit in the shade beneath some tall office buildings this place is fair enough but I can't see how this counts as one of Dallas' top attractions. read more

This building is beautiful and almost a simbol of the city of Dallas. I work nearby so I try to go and have a coffee with my friends every other day after work. It has a beautiful set of fountains that I find particularly calming when stressed. Also, the selection of restaurants near the tower are incredible. There are four museums very close, within walking distance. My advice is go for dinner to Zenna Thai and Japanese restaurant. If you want to have a delicious and romantic diner go to Dakotas. It is amazing. After that, there is nothing better to do than going for a walk to see the aforementioend fountains. If you are planning a wedding this is the place to do the reception. The late afternoon is the best time to do so: the city lights + the sunset is so gorgeous and a super romantic experience. read more

I went there today with excitement and joy. I wanted my daughter to see the water shoot out of the ground. I had NO idea that you were not allowed to run through there. I understand if not, but we were escorted off the property by a security who was very rude and like my daughter said, "mean!" There has to be another way of telling people nicely not to play there. He said it was private property, he said we were an embarrassment to the building and that a lot of important people work go there and they didn't want to see us acting that way. Like I said, I understand if we were not supposed to be there, but there had to have been another way to tell us then to embarrass us, as if we were homeless beggars, or freaks of nature. One more thing, there are NO SIGNS that it is private property. There is nothing around the water to suggest you may not enter. We were just trying to enjoy some cool water on a hot day in a city I was born and raised. read more
