Have had Fountain Porter on my radar for years now, specifically for their burger, and we finally had the opportunity to drop in and try it! Wasn't super crowded on a Sunday afternoon.. the bar seats were busy but tables towards the back were open. The burger... omg. It was so good. Perfectly cooked and juicy, and very reasonably priced. Fries were crisp and paired perfectly. They had about 15-20 beer options on draft, and a wide variety as well. Fountain Porter was jam-packed with 30-40 somethings on Friday evening. Seating is first-come, so bring your hover game! We managed to snag two stools along a counter next to the kitchen door and ordered two burgers and fries at the bar. Conversation needs to be had at the shouting level, so wouldn't recommend for a first date. Food came out pretty quickly. The kitchen could've taken another minute or so...the burgers were very rare in the center, the buns were cold (possibly right out of a refrigerator), and the fries a bit limp. The pickles were fantastic! That said, these days it's tough to beat a $10.00 burger/fries combo and it's nice to see neighbors filling a local spot. Great neighborhood bar with a good draft selection and relaxed vibe to unwind with friends. Front corner door opens up into a long bar area with a bunch of seats along the opposite wall as well. Bartenders are really quick here from what I seen. The back room has some more seating with a few 4-6 person tables and some more wall seats. How could you not love Fountain Porter? This wildly unassuming place who has, in my opinion, one of the best burgers in the city. This burger tastes like your dad is literally in the back yard grilling them up to absolute 'medium/medium rare' perfection. I don't know how they get that flavor in them - maybe they have sorcerers in the back - but even in the dead of winter they sincerely taste like a backyard BBQ. Affordable and wildly delicious eats? They have a really nice draft menu that rotates regularly and chill bartenders and patrons. One tiny TV so you can check the score of a game if you need, but it's not the place to watch THE game. Stopped in for food and drinks after the game on Sunday. There were a few seats at the bar that we were able to snag. The staff were friendly and immediately brought out our drinks and took the food order. The burger and fries were out in under 10 mins. For $6, the burger wasn't bad. The fries were great. They were seasoned enough, stringy, but crunchy, and perfect with some ketchup. They have house made pickles that I tasted with my burger and I can see why they sell them separately as a basket! This is a fantastic restaurant. They do many things properly and provide an amazing experience. I came here for two cheeseburgers one time, I have returned, and I will continue to return to this restaurant. The burger was very good, it was a great size and the cooked it perfectly. I have not had a burger other than this one that was seared so crispy on the outside and perfectly pink and juicy on the inside. One thing that really stood out here was that they didn't take a burger temperature and only allow the burger to be cooked properly. This is refreshing because I had a really bad burger experience at another highly rated burger restaurant in town that had a disclaimer on the menu that said they only cook med well, then they gave me a burger that was very well done. They have a lot of good beers to drink. The prices here are really good, $6 burgers, I forgot how cheap the fries were but they were cheap. Fountain Porter also has a turntable with a record collection, someone is selecting good music to listen too. They have some Neil Young inspired merch which is really badass. The service here was good, ordered with the bar and attentive bar backs/runners/bartenders/whoever came by to make sure I was ready to maximize and had mustard, vinegar, or anything else I might need. I didn't come here for the beer but I came here for the burgers and fries. This place was recommended by my friends and I was pleasantly surprsied by how delicious the food was here. I thought the burger looked very underwhelming and thought it couldn't be THAT good, but boy was I wrong. The burger was delicious and the fries too! On top of that, it was a steal for the price. It is a very chill bar, where you go up and order food & drinks. There are only a couple things on their food menu burger, fries, or sides. Great place. Mild pretension. High end beer menu. But acted a little brand new when my friend tried to order a light beer. I mean - I got it - I knew this "wasn't that kind of place". But surely in South Philly he wasn't the first guy. Burgers are fantastic and I have to love a place that has a menu that's "just cheeseburgers" because that's something that they can do and do well. Patrons here seem to compete for whose been coming here the most or the longest while, of course, being the most down to earth, liberal, meritocratic, and of course non-yuppy of anyone whose ever had a tipple in Passyunk. It's easier to hate than love and fundamentally this is a fantastic place that no one ever has to even mention in passing before I'm happy to go drink here. It's the perfect E Passyunk bar - pretty cheap, does one thing well food wise (burgers and fries) - and it's v. Cheap so you don't have to wonder if going there is worth it. During happy hour my beer, burger and fries + good tip was right around $20. Can't beat it, and it's a nice place to go solo no one bothers you and the bar tenders are nice. Oh and they serve their fries with Malt Vinegar on the side which... is there any other way?!?! read more

Fountain Porter is such a cool (southside) neighborhood saloon, it gave me the feeling of a gentrifed "Cheers"! With voices raising, conversations raging, people ranting this place was active. I'd really like to be here during an Eagles game, but that didn't happen. I would have preferred to sit at their bar, but my group chose a table in the back that was just fine. I ordered a pale ale, my son had some rye neat, and the girls had a fancy cocktail with gin. What I really wanted to have is their $6.00 hamburger with fries. These burgers were flying out of the kitchen faster than the bartenders could mix a drink and they looked terrific. When I'm back in Philly, this will be my first stop - burger and all. I can only hope, it's a Sunday and the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers or Flyers will be playing. read more

This year was no exception, even if we had to get our burgers to-go. This spot is easily one of Philly's best deals. Six bucks gets you a perfect cheeseburger. It's not fancy, but it is delicious. And three dollars for a hefty order of crispy fries? Sign. Me. Up. Don't forget to throw in a side of pickles, because Fountain Porter's are addictive and you'll want more than the two that already come with your burger. I was extremely pleased with the service but just the sheer amount of beers they have. Best part: all from the Philly brewing scene which is stellar. The real reason my local friend brought me here was for the burgers. The burgers are absolutely stellar. The magical cook and seasoning of the patty and the perfect bun is so understated in its simplicity, but its such an incredible burger. The bar itself is very tight in terms of space, so much so, that the bar and one small back room is the entirely of the place. What Fountain Porter lacks in space (never a bad thing) they make up for in quality. I did an Instagram meetup the other day with @phillystory and @chuckseye, and by recommendation of @phillystory, my friend Lisa and I found ourselves squished next to strangers for the "best $5 burger in the city." The burger was a juicy, quality patty, with lettuce, tomato, pickles and cheese. Basic but brilliant. Hands down my favorite bar in the city - just the best place to sit and have a few excellent, rotating draft beers (pre-COVID) based off of suggestions from the very knowledgeable and friendly bartenders. I got 2 burgers and 2 fries for takeout. For both I requested packets of ketchup and mayo. When I came to the pickup window I asked the guy again whether ketchup was in there, and he said yes. It was extremely important to me because I ran out of ketchup at home. Came home, opened the bag, and not a single packet of either ketchup or mayo. It was sad to eat fries without ketchup. Fountain Porter's alright. It's never really a destination for me - more like, I happen to be doing something directly in that 2-block radius, and don't feel like smelling like an ashtray like I do after the usual smokey dives I frequent. Only then will I head here. The crowd's a little too hip, bartenders aren't overly friendly (but service IS fast), the $5 burgers are pretty much exactly what you'd expect for $5, and yikes does it get crowded. Beer selection is always pretty tight, though. And Kenzingers are crazy cheap at happy hour (IIRC, $3?) Like I said, not a go-to, but definitely serviceable. read more

Low key grungy bar in south philly. It's filled with the prototypical hipster crowd so you can lol at how well they fulfill that stereotype haha Anyways, onto the food! The only food they serve is their signature char grilled burger and fries. What an amazing find. The patty was perfectly grilled, producing a crispy charred exterior while retaining loads of moisture within the meat itself. Great job! I love how simple their approach to the burger was. They use fluffy delicious potato roll for the bun. To make things even better, the burger was only 5 bucks! Try their fries while you're there.
