This location Charges parents to supervise their children during youth open gym hours even if they aren't playing or participating. My son is 8 and obviously can't go to the open gym alone. Prices are outrageous for a couple of hours to use the basketball rims. Ridiculous when it's winter time and these kids don't have many alternative options for staying active. Hope this is something that can be addressed as everyone in this community deserves fair opportunities to enjoy these amenities.$19 for an 1hr in the gym is ridiculous. read more

Where do I start? upon initial tour I was kind of impressed, but I hadn't really looked anywhere else (MY MISTAKE!!) and signed up right away. my very first class I went to was called cardio dance. It was on a Saturday and the instructor was Angela. I could barely keep up with the class. It's like she's dancing to herself in the mirror with tons of jumping, and I don't know why people equate jumping with fitness. You can get a workout quite effectively without jumping around anyway she came up to me at the end of the class and told me because we were the same height that I should "look like her" and I was completely offended... not only is that ignorant. It's completely wrong because somebody's bone structure is not the same as somebody else's . Furthermore he should not be insulting somebody that's a paying member that's trying to better themselves. Then I took a pool fitness class. That's right here has to be the worst experience I've ever had in my entire life. On this particular day, one of the instructors I like didn't happen to come, and Terri showed up. I knew I should have left because I had already had issues with her for some reason she does not like me and doesn't try to hide it. You get the people in the pool that stand in the back row and all they do is talk and you can barely hear the music or what the instructor is saying and nobody says anything to them, but the person that's trying to better themselves that has injuries is being yelled at saying I'm "not working hard enough" or "push it harder"... even though I have injuries so on this particular day, I got screamed at in my face in front of a class of people And I was asked why I'm wasting her time and not working hard enough?!? I have an injury yet TERRI told me to push through that so I did and ended up almost five months on bed rest Another instructor tells you a move and stares off into space for about 5 minutes, then repeat. Super fun! Formats aren't followed correctly. You get classes here that cancel with very short (or no notice at all)! when you find an instructor that you like, they end up leaving or have previous commitments. Needless to say I have canceled my membership. I found somewhere that is less expensive that offers more. This place does not have a hot tub. They do not have tanning and they do not have massage chairs. People are not very friendly here and that's not conducive to feeling comfortable. And I have had at least four people tell me they are not comfortable there because they feel like they're constantly being judged so this cannot only be me that fails this way I can go elsewhere and feel totally accepted. No matter my size no matter my injuries and have every amenity that I want and then some . Yesterday when I tried to cancel well, I'm sure you can imagine I was met with more rudeness which only solidified my decision and I had gone back-and-forth with this for five months and there's no point in wasting my money for something I'm not using and I'm not happy with I would just say look around a little more might find something with instructors that actually care if you succeed. Here you're just another number and they don't really care and I'm not going to miss it. I've already lost a lot more weight going elsewhere and I'm a lot happier. read more

This is quite an amazing facility for the community. It really shows you where our tax dollars are going. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 9/10 Very nice and modern facility. There is a lot of glass that lets in natural light. The facilities are well maintained and it has quite a lot of offerings from an indoor pool, indoor track, countless weights and machines as well as all the cardio machines you want. SERVICE: 9/10 The staff is always kind and courteous and is always helpful. For being mostly high school and college students, they are quite good and I have never had any issues with them. VALUE: 8/10 I think the value you get for the amenities is very much well worth it. It is priced above the budget gyms like Planet Fitness but around the range of an X-Sport. It's nicer inside than an X-Sport and overall, I think this is the better deal. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 10/10 Definitely plan to continue to use this place as long as I am close enough to it. Ok so I just got off the phone with Lifetime. I used to be a member there 2 years ago and just couldn't justify it in my budget, but would love to be a member there. After reading some of the reviews here I was curious about how much the rates were since it made it seem like it was only a couple bucks more than FVF a month. My inbox was full of Black Friday deals and there was one for Lifetime. They quoted me $69 a month for 1 adult and each child under 12 y/o is $20 a month. My family of 5 costs the same as 1 adult membership at LTF. read more

I was always put off by the $517 annual, $35 enrollment and $20 per additional family member fees to get a membership here.* They had a 'wave all enrollment fees' special on black Friday so I decided to sign up on a monthly basis ($47/month). They do come out with specials on holidays so I recommend taking advantage of the discounts. It's been a week and I have gone to the gym everyday. (Yes, my body is ridiculously sore but in a good way.) I'm enjoying exploring the classes that they offer. The instructors are motivating, professional, knowledgeable and really nice. I checked out the zumba, belly dancing, hatha yoga and yogalates. I can't wait to try out the gym and walking track but I'm just waiting to set up some good music playlists first. Oh and the pool classes look fun too. For me, another key benefit of this gym is the child care. Kid Zone is large, clean and is fully equipped with toys, books, tv, computers,crafts, crayons and stencils and staff that is friendly, nice and well trained. They watch kids from 6 months to 11 years for a max of 2 hours. They won't change diapers but if needed, they will just come and get you. I decided to do two back to back classes last night and was a bit peeved when they told me I had to pick up my kids earlier that the 2 hours allotted, causing my to miss the last 10 minutes of my work out. Yup. The much needed cool down and stretch. Apparently they start the 2 hour time limit from when you reserve and not when you sign in. The lady was nice and explained to me why they do that but it still sucked. Her advice was to ask the workers to re reserve your spot from the moment you come in. A little bogus but whatever. Knowing that I would not be able to work out for free at college anymore since I would be home for the holidays, I knew I had to find a gym membership since I got used to the gym life, as opposed to working out at home with dumbbells. I inquired about Life Time's prices and was blown away by their expensive "college" offers. So many fees before the actual membership fee. Fountainview is an easy walk away from home, and when I asked about their college promotional offer, it wasn't even fair. No enrollment fee and considerably less than the standard membership fee. When I first walked in, I was awed by the swimming pool and basketball courts, and when I found the weight training area, I walked around to see if I missed the free weights. I couldn't find them anywhere until walked past all the unnecessary cardio equipment (there's a track right there!!) and turned the other way. I asked myself, "Is this it?" The free weights area was considerably smaller than back at school and I thought that gym was small.. The weight area definitely needs an expansion. Everything else is nice though. Although some may say that I am not in the right to complain because of my college offer, it should be noted that the college membership lasts 30 days. My break is only 3 weeks. This place is no LifeTime but in my opinion, the prices LifeTime charges is more for the pretty windows and bricks. read more

Been working out in the fitness center since Sept 1st and I love it. It's 5 mins away from my house. There's a walking track, lap pool and great group classes if you're into those. So far I have tried zumba and kickboxing. Will be trying boot camp and row circuit soon. They have complimentary towels and clean locker rooms. No need to bring your own lock if you're using the second floor lockers. Equipments are all new. Most cardio machine has its own TV screen and a charging dock for you ipod. Wish they had more stair masters though, they only have 2. And for the price of $45 monthly plus $22 for an additional member, its worth it and reasonable. It's not Lifetime but I love it. read more

Initially I just got a track pass for this place and then ended up becoming a member. I have joined many gyms and each place has things they are good at and things you want to change. I really like the track here. It's clean and roomy. Sometimes too roomy and people don't stick to the rules about what lanes are for walkers or joggers or runners. During the free times for residents, there are lots of people oblivious to where they should be and when you start creeping up on them, they remember they are in the wrong lane. The staff I've worked with has been friendly and able to answer all my questions. They have personal trainer packages you can get, but I had hoped to purchase 3 sessions and that option is not available, you have to get packs of 6 or 12 sessions and I'm one to try out things before making that big of a commitment. I've been here mostly between 9am and 2pm. I have never had a problem finding a parking spot or a locker or open equipment. I don't know if it's really crowded earlier or later in the day. I've taken 2 classes and they had very small attendance which is ok with me. I've been told that the Body Pump classes get crowded and to get there early. It's still shiny and new and the women's locker room has marble counters and some of your basic toiletries and hair dryers. I wich they would have boxes of tissues since I always get a runny nose when I exercise. The schedule for the exercise classes could be better. There are lots of classes really early in the morning and later in the evening, but I need my classes between 9:15 and 12, so there are limited choices. I take 2 kids to school at 7 and then another one at 9am, so I have to work around that. For $45 a month, I'm pleased with this place, I just wish there were more choices for exercise classes earlier in the day, but I have a weird schedule and don't expect everyone else to change because of it. read more

This gym is fantastic for me. First of all I've been going since the simkus rec. center days and yes that gym was cheaper but it didn't have the indoor track/ pool or the space and quality of the new cardio and strength equipment area today. So I get what I pay for. Secondly, I've seen bad reviews about the gym staff and I have to say I disagree, the staff is very professional and have always been happy to address any issues I've had. As for members clustering the equipment, I go in the mornings and afternoons and have been going since it opened and besides the first few weeks in January and on Saturdays when the kids have swim meets I have never had trouble finding a spot on cardio equipment, weights, or parking for that matter. I encourage anyone who might be put off by other reviews to try this place and have your own experience because I very much so enjoy mine here. read more

5 stars for FVF for enforcing a mask wearing policy and other safety measures during covid! I was anxious about returning to the gym due to the pandemic, but after seeing they actually enforced mask wearing and were doing a good job with cleaning and have tons of equipment wipe/ hand sanitizer stations available I feel a lot better about coming in. Employees are always masked as well as people working out (well, I do see a wayward nose poking out on occasion but not as often as in most public places). And to anyone who is concerned about wearing a mask while working out, I do heavy deadlifts/squats/prowler/cardio etc and have asthma/COPD and I can breath fine with my mask on :) I appreciate everyone's efforts from employees to patrons, to keep each other safe during this time. read more

Fountain View Fitness (FVF) has so much to offer! Members enjoy unlimited use of the lap track, indoor pools, free weights, fitness equipment, and classes. The fitness classes are drop-in and designed to be accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels, plus the instructors are qualified personal trainers who are excellent at accommodating any special needs. Since COVID, some classes are even available virtually so you can attend from the comfort of your home. They have a gym with basketball and volley ball courts available most of the time. FVF also offers monthly and yearly member challenges to encourage regular fitness activity. The locker rooms are clean and include showers, saunas, and keyless lockers to secure your belongings. Everyone on the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the members are nice, polite, and welcoming. The hours are quite good to accommodate most everyone's busy schedule. The prices seem reasonable for both residents and non-residents, and note that the lap track has designated hours when Carol Stream residents can walk for free. FVF is an amazing fitness center that promotes a comfortable community for all ages, ethnicities, and fitness levels. read more

Great facility, nice staff but they have got to get a handle on regulating the temperature. The track is 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the gym. There are spots on the track where you feel the heat blasting down on you. I'm considering canceling my membership which is a shame because other than that it's a nice place to workout. Many members have complained to the staff at the desk about how hot the track is but it falls on deaf ears I suppose. read more

I must completely agree with Dawn K. and Joe F's reviews from several months ago. I left Lifetime Fitness in January 2014 to join Fountain View, and regretted my decision from week two on. If you work during daytime hours and try to workout at 5pm or later, it is virtually impossible to get on an elliptical machine. They offer plenty of other cardio machines of which quite a few VERY rarely get touched during peak hours (I don't know what they're called but your legs swing back and forth, etc), yet they only have 3 or so of the most popular elliptical models. If the staff, after many a written suggestion card, choose not to place "notes" or permanent signs on each machine to tell the ignorant members that "please limit your time during peak hours to no more than 30 minutes- thank you", then I choose to take my same monthly premium back to Lifetime where I only encounter this from Jan. 2nd through Jan. 20th annually (everyone gives up three weeks into their resolutions so I don't worry about that for too long). Even then, there is usually at least 1-2 open treadmills or elliptical at any given peak timeframe. FVF made the gyms much too spacious and the workout facility way too small if they had plans to charge at least $45 a month for a gym membership. Also, the gyms are reserved so much for preplanned activities throughout most times of the year, that adding my teenage son onto the membership really meant nothing to us... There were more occasions than not that he was unable to play basketball or participate in other activities in the gym, because of basketball tournaments, reservations made at the last minute by large groups, etc. Went back to Lifetime Fitness by May 2014, and I'm happy once again, for only $5 more dollars a month. read more

Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on Lifetime Fitness. This place is not worth the money. Group fitness class times are terrible unless you are unemployed. The fans and the women's sauna have been broken for weeks. The ceiling leaks and it is so hot in the cardio area and locker room that you don't need to workout to break a sweat. They do not have much in the way of free weights and there's no room to use what they do have and they have NO machines for working your arms. There is also no room to stretch or do any sort of floor work. I will not be renewing my membership come January. read more

This gym is bad. BASKETBALL courts are always being taken up and being used for volleyball and other events which makes no sense to me as a member of the fountain view gym I pay $48 a month and something is usually always going on in the basketball courts I love playing basketball and don't have the chance to do it most times especially on weekends which annoy me especially. This gym would rather make money off others renting their courts then allowing atleast one court to be open at all times for gym members.. read more

We rented the multi-purpose room for my child's birthday party. The accommodations and flexibility was fantastic! From setting up the event, thru Suzanne, to the assistance on the day of the event, thru Karen, there is just not enough good things to say. It is pretty much a brand new facility that fits about 160 people with a full kitchen. They let you use the projector screens for free and even provide a laptop to you! Anything and everything you need, Karen was spectacular. I researched a ton of park district facilities and community centers all over the Northwest and Southwest suburbs of Chicago, and this easily gets you the most bang for the buck! Most cannot even fit 150 people, and most also charge you for ridiculous things or have unusually high rates AND are old compared to this beauty. I highly recommend this place! read more

I've had nothing but great experiences here. I joined the new fitness center after moving to Bloomingdale. I workout in the evening on weekdays and mornings on weekends (probably the busiest times!) but there is always equipment to use. It seems they are always analyzing how to improve the experience and I often see the big bosses walking around taking notes. There have been some hiccups as it is a new facility but overall, I really enjoy coming here. The group fitness classes are excellent. Not sure what classes the other reviewers are talking about but I do the advanced classes and always feel like I got my money's worth. I think Lifetime would be a waste of $ when you have this quality right down the street. read more

I've been a member here since it opened (and before that at the old Simkus rec ctr). It is a beautiful facility with nice machines and a super clean pool. Unlike many other gyms, this one doesn't feel like a 'meat market'--it is family-friendly and low-key. My kid loves going to the Kids Zone while I workout, too. My only complaint is when they hold swim meets and other events, people park very rudely (i.e. using electric vehicle charging spots for non-EV) and they don't do anything to reserve areas for gym members to park during those times. read more

I was a volunteer coach here. The rules and policies that were laid out in handbook was not enforced. When we played in other towns, the refs were not consistent and did not adhere to what was understood as the expectations of the game. Harry, the Director, did not back me as a coach or take a situation on a fair and case to case basis. I will coach and dedicate my time where my talents are appreciated! read more

I enjoy coming here to play basketball. In fact, I bought a fitness membership specifically to go there and shoot hoops. The gym is clean and well maintained and most of the staff is somewhat pleasant. Tho 3 employees in particular, deserve to be recognized for the exceptional job they're doing. They are an asset to your business. All 3 are professional yet personable, helpful, willing to go out of their way to accommodate your requests, when possible, unlike some others I've encountered. One is Amy, who works "open gym". She's cool, laid back, respectful and courteous to adults and kids alike, she has a sense of humor, too, as do my next two faves...ok, there's the lead maintenance guy, not sure what his name is, but if I had to guess, I'd say he looks like a Joe. Both him and Sir Richard are all over the place, getting things done and working hard. To close this review out I'd like to suggest to Fountain View's management the following: during youth open gym it gets very crowded on the courts. It would be a great idea to designate a portion of the gym, or even 1 mere basket, for fitness members only. It's utterly ridiculous that a fitness member,has to share a basket with a bunch of kids. Why pay a considerable amount for a full year if you aren't offered any benefits from the facility? It doesn't make sense. Thank you. read more

She knows her students by name, participates in their exercise plan and will always offer her help. She doesn't just lead a class, she participates...she walks around and makes sure students have proper form, she makes suggestions for modifications and listens! Why would anyone pay so much money for so little equipment. We were longtime users of the CSPD fitness at the Simkus Center and were very excited about the new facility. When it opened up we were dismayed that they only had one bench press and only three benches in the free weight area. The music was always too loud and many on the staff were rude and lazy. We went to another fitness center down Army Trail Road and ended up paying LESS money ($30 per month vs. the $45 at Fountain View) and got more equipment! Again, why would anyone pay so much for so little? read more

I would save your money and look elsewhere or spend just a bit more for Lifetime Fitness just down the street. I have been a member of the Carol Stream Park Districts fitness center for probably close to 15 years. Before the new building opened they offered fitness memberships for $18-19/ month. The new fitness center is only marginally larger than the old one. They have added more cardio equipment and few more machines but the free weight area actually seems more crowded compared to the old facility. Now they want to increase the monthly fee to $45/ month. I doubt I will be using the pool or basketball courts so for me it's almost 3 times the cost for little added benefit. Also because it's new it has attracted a fair amount of new members. Now a brand new fitness center that is only slightly larger than the old facility is actually more crowded at times. The building looks nice but for all of the money spent it almost feels as though the fitness center was more of an after thought put in the upstairs corner than a main feature of the facility. I'm already looking for a new place to work out and my membership isn't up until spring. The only way I would consider renewing is if they offered a fitness only membership for $20/ month or less. I still don't care for the place but for $20 it's close to home. For $45 I'll make the drive somewhere else. read more

Save yourself some money by going elsewhere! I was a long time member going back to the days of the Simkus Center. This facility costs more and has less than what I was able to find at LA Fitness. In fact, Fountain View's $45 monthly fee is $15 MORE THAN my monthly fee at LA Fitness. The staff was always rude and would look at you as if they were a deer in the headlights if you asked them a question. The only good staff member there was Don. He knew what he was talking about. There is too little equipment. Anyone who understands gyms knows that it is not unheard of to ask if you can work-in with someone if the device you need is in use. Well, the staff at Fountain View doesn't like this. They also don't like you to wait for a piece of equipment. They call it hovering, even if you are several feet away from the device. Sorry, but most folks who are serious about strength training have several routines that they follow, working different muscle groups on different days. You can't just do something else! So, less equipment for more dollars! Sorry, but there is no value to be found at Fountain View. read more
