Overall, I really like Vasa Fitness. I've been a member for 2 years, and overall have had positive experiences. It's by far one of the most affordable gyms around with friendly staff, professional trainers, excellent classes, a great selection of machines, equipment and facilities including pool, steam and sauna. Lately, however, some negatives have been marring the overall experience. VASA did a massive membership drive/upgrade at the end of 2025 which has increased foot traffic dramatically. It's rare to visit now and not have a wait to use machines (especially treadmills). And speaking of treadmills, there are currently 3 treadmills out of order, and it appears that 1 or 2 are missing, given the spacing in the first row of machines. My second and bigger criticism is the subpar housekeeping, specifically the men's locker room toilets. There has been an ongoing issue with at least one toilet being clogged by paper and waste. And often multiple stalls with no toilet paper. There has been one stall marked "out of order" for a week. Yesterday and today there was another toilet clogged, and the other two stalls with no paper. Other times I've seen toilets clogged and water that has overflowed. Really disgusting to walk through that! Overall, I give this gym 4 stars for equipment and facilities offered. Sadly, they deserve 1 star for maintenance and housekeeping. read more

Disgusting. I joined Vasa in Wheaton when it opened. The conditions are pretty gross. I have documented these complaints. Not sure I can post them here. I will try. I've tried to address this at Wheaton VASA and through corporate. All I've received in return is form letters and assurances. Pool: In the pool, the ledge on each of the three swimming lanes is covered in dirt and grime. Items float at the bottom of the pool, such as Band-Aids and gauze. In the corners of the pool, sediment, mostly dirt and sand, settle in the bottom of the pool. Interestingly, the pool is often closed. Not sure why they do such a terrible job of keeping it clean. Hot tub: hot tub is equally repulsive and not maintained properly. The intakes are covered with black mold and grime. For some reason, they close it every few days in the morning. Often you cannot use it. Seems like it would be better to clean it. (although, I'm not sure they ever do.) when customers are not using it. In off hours. Water access: some bottle fillers / water fountains Have been broken for months. (The one by the sauna, for example). Nothing seems to be maintained well. Locker rooms: these are bad! 1) the shower stalls in the men's locker room smell like a truck stop urinal. Flies Buzz around the stall as you shower. This indicates maggots are in the drain. It's been like this for months. 2) there is insufficient seating in the locker room. Some people spread all their positions on the benches, leaving no room for other others to change. This could be remedied easily but VASA, both locally and nationally is non-responsive to suggestions of customers. 3) the air vents on the ceiling, appear to be clogged with mold. This can't be healthy. 4) the hooks in the shower stalls have been broken off for almost a year. Any items you bring with you to the shower Must sit on the floor in the shower. What is most troubling is the lack of response to the lack of cleanliness. There is a reason VASA is cheap. It is built upon not expending money for cleanliness. They rely on customers, not caring that they may catch a disease from the unsanitary conditions. It is part of the VASA business model, I suppose. If enough of us bring attention to the unhealthy conditions, perhaps VASA will fulfill their obligations. I suggest reporting it to the DuPage County health department. read more

Disappointing management response and unprofessional staff experience I had a deeply concerning experience at this location involving a trainer. When an issue arose regarding a piece of equipment and my inability to return a kettlebell due to a disability, the trainer responded with raised voices, hostility, and insulting language rather than professional problem-solving. He approached me then stood immediately next to me while I was on the treadmill and repeatedly refused to walk away when asked. He insulted me and said the gym isn't all about me. When I suggested alternative solutions--such as using a cart--my suggestions were dismissed without guidance on contacting disability services, and the interaction escalated into verbal abuse and intimidation. When I reported this incident to management, I was disappointed to find that no apology was offered, and management placed partial blame on me for the interaction. Defending or minimizing this type of aggressive behavior creates a hostile environment for members. I believe women and members of all abilities deserve to be treated with basic professional respect. Beyond staff interactions, I also found the facility less than ideal for serious weightlifting. In my experience, the gym frequently lacks enough weights on the racks, has a shortage of specific dumbbell sizes due to overcrowding, and lacks clocks to time rest periods. I echo other reviewers who have noted issues with crowding and equipment availability. It would have to improve to suck. In the men's locker room there are a total of 6 full sized lockers. This is for a gym that has capacity for 1100. I change at work before I go there and use one of the hamster sized lockers for my jacket. There is a changing area in the men's locker room with a door. It is always in use. There is only one. The pool is usually too busy to use. It only has three lanes. Today I tried using it. There were nine people swimming laps, and two people just walking. I have been a member for two years and in that time have been able to use the pool less than 10 times, which is why I joined in the first place. That is because it is either too crowded, or closed. They recently got three glute machines for those who wish to have rhino sized glutes. For those of use who do not, there are two leg extension machines, one of which is usually broken. I realize that you get what you pay for, however paying to be in a bad mood is self defeating. I would rather pay more money (LifeTime) and have an actual workout in a decent environment. read more

Vasa Fitness gives the impression of being a friendly place and uses banners to encourage new customers to sign up. However, only after signing the contract do you discover that freezing or cancelling your membership incurs additional fees. There is also a mandatory annual fee of $59.99. I waited over five hours for a callback, and on top of this, when they called me back, they put me in the queue for an additional 30 minutes. Furthermore, the customer service is extremely rude. The gym is always overcrowded, with everyone fighting for access to the equipment. I definitely do not recommend this chain. My husband and I certainly won't be coming back. read more

I've been trying to cancel for four months, and it has been one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had with any company. - Phone support keeps me on hold for 2+ hours with no callback - The app let me pay the cancellation fee, then told me I still had to email -- and kept the money - My email received no response - The in‑person staff told me they can't help because billing is handled by a third‑party company - I continue to be charged every month - And now that third‑party company claims I owe even more for an unexplained charge At this point, it feels predatory. I've been a member at Vasa for a while, but recently I had a pretty frustrating experience. I was put on the waitlist for a Studio Red class and got an email notification only 5 minutes before the class started saying I had been moved off the waitlist and was able to attend. Unfortunately, by that point, it was impossible for me to make it, since I live 15 minutes away from the gym. Even though it wasn't my fault, I was still charged a $3 fee for not showing up. I think it's a bit unreasonable to send such a last-minute email, especially when it's clear that many people might not be able to make it in time. To make matters worse, my friend, who had just signed up for a membership and was visiting the gym for the first time, had an issue with the staff. He was written up for having a duffle bag in the basketball courts, which he didn't know was a rule since it was his first visit. I've been working out at Vasa for a while and didn't even know that bags aren't allowed in certain areas. They could've easily given him a warning instead of writing him up, and at the very least, there should be signage about it to avoid confusion. Overall, I'm disappointed with the communication and lack of consideration for new members or even regulars who might not be fully aware of every specific rule. I hope Vasa improves their communication and customer service because these kinds of issues take away from the positive experience I've had at the gym. read more

I have worked out at a lot of gyms. Highly recommend Vasa Wheaton. So much is included in the membership plus the energy is so good. All the staff is super helpful and friendly--approachable. Very positive staff. The management makes an effort to get to know everyone. The personal training is worth it. I have met several trainers and they are all helpful even if I am not their client. I highly recommend Maddie if you are looking for a personal trainer. Great energy, detailed, encouraging, listens to you, celebrates every goal, her energy is contagious and motivational. I laugh as I read some of these negative reviews....life is short...show up, put the work in, celebrate every win at the gym and look for the good, get involved, nothing is perfect. Beware of hidden fees! I was late to class once this month charged $3. Missed a class in this month due to the storm, I was charged $10! I was told I was charged due to pattern of missing. You can't always plan life to cancel within 12 hrs. The fees are excessive! read more

This place is perfect for me. My review is based on experiences here compared to three other gyms in the area. I don't know what people expect that they give so many 1 star reviews, but for $15. a month I'm very satisfied with the variety of machines and the upkeep done on them. Some staff members are more helpful than others, but that has been my experience everywhere, and Vasa's people are usually more helpful than at other gyms I've been to. The bathroom/locker room could use more frequent attention, but is relatively clean the times I've used it. Here are my dings compared to other places: The biggest is a lack of posted etiquette. People are often sitting on machines scrolling their phones for 5 or more minutes between sets. At times an entire row of machines will be occupied by people scrolling! Seriously?!? Not cool. The second ding is the machine cleaning system. Little wet wipes that dry out within a couple of minutes are wasteful and hard to use. I much prefer when gyms have cloth or substantial paper towels with spray bottles to use when wiping down machines. Overall, great value for the money. I can't review the classes, pool, or other amenities because I only have the basic membership. It's all I need, and I have plenty of options with it at Vasa. read more

I just LOVE how they have a $50 annual fee and a $25 cancellation fee that they purposely DON'T tell you about when you sign up.

Everything is just fine except the following in the recent month Feb. 2025 1. hot water in shower room is below body temperature and can not take a normal shower. 2. constantly found tissues, trashes on the floor of the shower room. Maybe leave a trash can in the shower room or post a sign that clean your stuff before leaving? I always have to remove water bottles, tissues, sticker, shampoo,etc out of the shower room manually. What is wrong with people who is using the facility? How about ask the cleaning personnel to visit at least once per hour to perform a quick pick up and sanitation check? 3. the temperature controls is off: I found sometimes the water flow in the water is too cold I will revise this review and give this fitness a 5 stars in the next month if above issues are addressed. 2025.0308 The management team did a great job on listening and reaction to address the issue. Shower water is back to normal. 2025.0312 Item# 2 and #3 has been addressed and everything seems very good. I am revising this a FIVE star facility again. This rating is only based off of what I saw. Took my family in for a tour, the building was under construction (old Ultra foods across the street from target) for a while. I had never heard of these chains. My son loves basketball and we can't seem to locate an indoor court with open play that has reasonable hours. It looked like a lifetime fitness but with planet fitness money. That's what I like to see and experience. The staff was nice, it was pretty full tonight. They offer childcare, heated pools, classes and more at a very reasonable price. We will become members soon. read more

Bernice customer service rep was not all willing to listen to me issue she kept saying let me finish. she was stating a policy that I did not need the information. I wanted to speak to a supervisor she said she'd put in a request that wi take 24-48 hours. I wanted to file a complaint against her so I called location in wheaton. Manager said call back that I'd get someone else. i called back and held 15 min and I got Bernice again. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. I cancelled and I was td I would get a confirmation once they collected 9.99 from me. They have my money and no cancellation email has come. There are much better places out there to work out. This gym is severely over crowded. They don't have a limit on the memberships being sold. No matter what time of the evening I go, it's busy. I'm not able to do my full workout due to how busy it is and the lack of equipment open to use. I'm shocked they haven't added more equipment. Joined in May, left by Aug. (deteriorating fast) large and commercial in the worst way. the supersize planet fitness comment, is 100% spot on. huge population and great place to meet people, but thats the only positive. lockerrooms are tiny, with 20-30 lockers for a massive facility. steam/sauna are not in the locker room, they are near the pool with windows that let people in free weights and parking lot look at you half naked. There is a door straight from weight room to pool/steam/sauna. Mindboggling how this design was approved. Can't imagine being an anxious gym goer trying to use these amenities. Steam/sauna rule are not enforced/followed and not cleaned enough. Smells like a not a single person rinsed off before getting in. Constantly there are people in sweaty workout clothes/shoes, smelling like shit and spreading those germs in a room with elevated temperature. Men/women/kids do not rinse off before going into these either and go straight into there from the weight room. People have gone berserk on me for calling them out or commenting on the plaque of hygiene rules they stared at on the door. Employees don't even care and these rooms look/smell like they aren't cleaned daily. tons of older kids who refuse to clean after themselves/ wipe things down/ come in not having showered for the day and sweating up a storm. Employees do not care much about anything except whether people in classes are paying for those classes (have been pulled out of a class midway, twice for billing questions. They need dedicated custodial staff and less teenagers standing around up front. read more

Horrible experience, i have been going to vasa since it had first opened in wheaton. I was generally pleased on the equipment even though most of it is in very bad shape or broken. The gym is super busy when most of it doesn't even work. The staff showed their true cares about the people and how their constant greed and self worth makes them drive for power and their horrible paycheck. The service from the workers are horrible, i felt constant disrespect and a sense of anger by multiple workers in my face with multiple people stopping me mid set by touching the weights which is a very dangerous thing to do to someone, i had to calm down with them constantly escalating the situation. Never will i be back to this god awful and horrible kept gym. If i could give 0 stars, that's what i would do. The person that was so disrespectful to me was a woman in her 20-30s even though she looked like she was pushing 40. I hope the management takes action to this and fires the two woman from their irregular position in their thinking. read more

So the problem with the app got fixed thanks to tech-support. I have been enjoying the gym thoroughly. It's pretty clean in there. I've had no problems getting any machines or going into classes. Jessica who is a Zumba instructor is fabulous. Darren, who teaches aqua classes is above and beyond what an instructor should be. He is just absolutely phenomenal today even though it was raining, I lost my key fob And I had retraced my steps and I know I had it because I had unlocked my car after doing my work out today and I still could not find it anywhere. I went back inside and asked if anybody had turned it in and a young gentleman came out in the rain and helped me look for my key fob, I didn't find it but he did and thanks to him, I was able to get home these people here go above and beyond they really care about people I truly believe that!! This location is very nice and I have nothing bad to say about the location. My rating is because of the corp office. I found out I need an operation and can't work out with my personal trainer based on doctors orders. I send a note saying I need to cancel my personal training due to my illness. They didn't tell me I could freeze it for 3 months. I thought I had to cancel. They canceled it and told me I still have to pay for the whole month because they need a 30 day notification. There is no medical stop. If they had told me I could freeze it, I wouldn't be charged for the month. Now that I wasn't told and the computer had me canceled, they won't let me go back and put a freeze. Be aware that they really don't have medical reasons for cancelations. read more

Horrible locker room configuration. bunch of small lockers stacked on each other, with EVERYONE tripping over each other to get out of the way so someone could get to their locker, or having to wait forever for others to get out of the way. and being rushed when you're changing to get out of the way is awesome. especially for someone who has multiple nerve damage. read more

I am extremely frustrated with this business I am out of town and my son is trying to get in work out and play basketball with his friends. I sent my daughter out to take my kid and his friends there and your worker with that goofy ponytail was lying straight my children and their friends faces. They proceeded to ask for a manger and next thing you know this short, balding, chopped little guy comes and shows that the other worker was wrong. Hello, I joined VASA in the Fall and for the most part have been very pleased with this facility. However, since the start of the new year, which obviously is a much busier time than usual, I am frustrated. The staff at the front desk just seem to be scrolling through their phones while sanitizing wipe dispensers are empty, bathrooms are dirty and my biggest complaint, there are about 5 teenagers gathered around several machines socializing and NONE of them are using the equipment. There need to be some sort of rule enforced regarding "loitering" on machines. They need to be moved to tables up front near the entrance if they are there to socialize. The majority of the clientele during the rest of the year are there to work out and move on with their day. Yesterday my workout took twice as long as usual & I left frustrated. I have been using this gym for less than a month and I love it! It's spacious, clean, the staff is friendly, it is a chill gym atmosphere- nothing super intense. The classes are great. Really dirty bathrooms and showers. Was a brand new facility but looked more like a planet fitness because it was not being kept up. They only had 1 yoga class and it was restore....yuk! Don't provide locks for lockers, no towels, do not encourage people to wipe off their machines. Staff does not seem to have any idea as to what they are doing. If I could describe VASA...Family Friendly Super Sized Planet Fitness. Perfect if you love planet fitness but want to pay $5 more to bring your kid to watch a movie while you workout. Lacking good customer service. With Vasa Fitness rather close to my house I looking to join. Using my Silver Sneaker Health Plan. The young man told me I had to sign up on line he talked rather fast the 1st time. I went to the Website 1st for Sliver Sneaker and it said to have my Ins. info and to sign up at the location. The young man said to do it online and it would take up to 14 days to join. I even called Vasa's customer service number and was told to go back and they should take care of getting me the member ship. Went back a second time again got the same young man this time he took a few more minutes and said I had to dig deeper into the Vasa Fitness Center web site. He seemed more interested in talking to his fellow employee rather than me hopefully being a new member. I left Vasa drove over to LA Fitness farther from my house. The customer service was 1000 times better. With my Silver Sneakers Membership I was able to sign up and join the that LA Fitness Center right away and was given a tour.
