Great casual pub, stopped in for a beer and some snacks. The maple glazed pigs in a blanket were delicious. The crispy smashed potatoes were fine but nothing special. Not sure of the name or GPS, but Yelp found it. There are many names around the building & the menu does not say the name either. All the tables were in need of a busing. Unfortunately, lack of employees is a problem here as well. I helped as I could, but luggage was very heavy lugging around. Seat yourself first, even if the seats are dirty. Ask if anyone is still sitting there, then put something down to hold your seat as you go to the bar to order. That is the only way at the moment to order anything! And this is the usual at the majority of restaurants overseas, especially in the airport fyi. read more

Yikes! A couple unpleasant things witnessed here. Sanitation warning! The first issue was a pair of bugs that arrived on our table when the food arrived. I'm not an entomologist but they looked like some kind of small cockroach, or at least some other type of winged legged food-loving pest. Since I wasn't sure about the species of insect, I kept mum on that one in case it wasn't a big pest issue, as being a foreigner I couldn't be certain. The more disgusting thing that happened was later, and I haven't even told my family that I had experienced this. While my fam were visiting the loo, I watched the bar as our server was prepping strawberries for beverages by topping them an slicing them in half. She reached into the strawberry basket with her gloves hand, and proceeded to rub the strawberry all around her teeth, talking to another waitress about how she does this to whiten her teeth. She dropped the strawberry from her mouth, used the same gloved hand to pick that strawberry off the floor, and then used the same gloved hand to keep processing more strawberries! I didn't have the stomach to tell my daughter after she had munched on the strawberries that were in our pitcher of water. Absolutely disgusting! read more

Would I have liked to found a better place to go to while on vacation? Yes! But my Cousin had just flown in and was tired! This place was down the street from our apartment, open and we were able to be seated immediately so that's how we found ourselves at Fountains Abbey! How does one order here? Head to the bar and place your food and drink order. As I am not a beer fan, it was hard to find a fruity alcoholic beverage here so water it was (I was actually really looking forward to a drink that day as it was a long one and heck- we were on vacation!) It was dark and a little dingy here. Kinda felt odd we had our daughter in this place as it seams like it really is a place for guys to drink and watch a game but they serve food! I had fish and chips. It was ok. Nothing to rave about. I still don't really understand serving peas with fish and chips but hey- when in Rome do as the Romans do! (And honestly my daughter hadn't had a vegetable in days so I made her eat some!) My daughter had the nachos. It was really more like a bootleg nacho cheese Dorito here as opposed to in America its a corn tortilla chip. She liked it but real Doritos would have been better! Apparently a famous botanist used to drink here, but then again this is London which basically means it is almost impossible to go into a pub that a famous person hasn't had a drink at (or at least one that is pretty old). This one was just around the corner from my hotel, though as it turns out, there were at least three other pubs in a short walking distance as well (though I didn't go to far afield). It was okay, though like a lot of the other chain pubs in London, nothing really spectactular. It was also pretty crowded, no doubt due to it being the local watering hole for the workers at the hospital across the road. In the end I only ended up coming here once, namely because there were better pubs elsewhere. read more

I tried my brothers steak & ale pie which was good, my mom really liked her beet pie, and my niece shared her chicken which was also good! Great environment, and the food was delicious. My wife had three fish and and chips and I enjoyed a breaded chicken sandwich.

The woman manager, I think her name was Meth, had a bad and condescending attitude. The rest of the staff was great. I order the fish n chips. The picture on the menu has two small pickled onions (I really like pickled onions!!) and when Meth the manager served me my plate I saw only one onion. So I asked her and she condescending replied "we serve them by weight not qty. But if you really want one more I'll bring it." I said ok please bring me one more. 5 minutes later she bring 3 huge pickled onion without saying a word. After consuming 1 fish n chips, 1 Guinness, and 5 Stellas I received my bill. They added 2 more fish n chips and 1 Porter!! Meth the manager comes back to dispute my clam of the discrepancy. After 5 minutes she said "I'll just take those items off" and walks away. 10 minutes later nobody had come to give the revised bill. So I ask the bar tender and she didn't know anything because Meth the manager was nowhere to be found! So I explained the issue to the Asst Manger and she took care of it on the spot. WOW!! All other staff was great. Beers are served well and the fish n chips are good. No need to return. read more

Certainly a crowded little place if you want to catch a game, however it is exciting to see! My co workers and I came in for dinner and didn't realize a soccer/footy game was on. The place was packed and even the upstairs area didn't have much room left. It was really hard to get around and slow service due to the amount of people. The food is nothing to write home about. Very bland really. The fish and chips were nothing special. I am also sorry to say that the beer in the UK overall is not very good. We decided to give it a try and coming from Portland where we have some of the best breweries...it was a bit sad. This place might be ok for a pint while waiting for a train, but I wouldn't recommend having a meal here. First, the staff is...I think unfriendly is the best term. Not necessarily rude, but when we walked in nobody greeted us or made eye contact. We made a reservation (completely unnecessary as the place was not at all busy) but no one would acknowledge us so I just started talking to the person behind the bar to explain our situation. She sat us at a table and we ordered at the bar. The food was not terrible, but not very good. Had chicken roasts (it was Sunday) and the chicken was very overcooked. Fountains' Abbey was once a fine pub in Paddington. They even had the much-liked Hoegaarden whitbeer on tap (at a price, sure). Now, it's one of countless Greene King pubs in London, and of many in the area (there are two more just around the corner). And they serve Abbot Ale, as they all do. I don't mind drinking Abbot Ale every once in a while, it's a solid best bitter. But I enjoy VARIETY! And that's mostly gone now. There are a few hand-pumped guest ales - and guest ciders when I was visiting. But it is not the place anymore - although the service is very friendly, and nothing about the décor has changed in years and years. Pub-wise, London is getting more boring and predictable by the minute. It's all Greedy King now. read more

I was staying at a hotel in the area while traveling and stumbled into the Abbey while looking for lunch. It's your standard pub, serving up standard pub grub. I had the cheeseburger with fries and it was pretty good. Nothing special, but definitely hit the spot at the time. There's nothing fancy about this place, though with all of the dark hardwood, tourists and those waiting for the train may feel as though it is one of the more "fancier" pubs in the area. Pretty decent pub and one of at least 3 million in Paddington that claim to have either housed or served Alexander Fleming or that he discovered penicillin thanks to mould spores floating out of their window. The food is good, big portions though a teeny bit pricey and they serve a selection of Young's and Wells ales and beers which vary throughout the year as well as the usual lagers, ciders and other drinks. The pub is fairly big - lots of seats and tables both in the main area and upstairs and they also have a separate dining area, probably more suited to families with younger children. You can eat outside if the weather is nice and it's only a short walk to Paddington tube or rail, or the bus stop. On the multiple occasions I've stopped off here, the staff have always been friendly and the food doesn't take too long to arrive, though long enough to let you know it hasn't just been in the microwave! Overall a lovely pub with a great atmosphere, good food and service. read more

I came for a drink and a quick bite with some friends as it was convenient and seemed a pretty decent place.
