And the coordinators did NOT communicate. Luckily we were able to find a new venue last minute! I hope no other bride has to try and work with this dysfunctional facility, too bad it is beautiful building and is close to home. The untrained staff make this place a HUGE NO!! My only drawback was that the indoor space felt a little limited when everything needed to be in the same room, everything was in separate rooms such as the bar and dance floor. There was no personal space between myself and the two individuals next to me. The space for the dance floor was really small and I feel like it could barely fit half of the guests. The dinner itself was not great. The salad with a sweet vinaigrette and apples was lovely, but the salmon was way too overcooked and the potatoes were hard and flavorless. Definitely could use more gravy. The steak was cooked medium rare and the best part of dinner (but I heard differently from individuals of other tables). However, I enjoyed the bacon wrapped in cheese (?) bites during the cocktail hour along with the coconut shrimp and shrimp cocktail (the tall shot glasses that the shrimp came in was so thin that it was hard to dip the shrimp in the small amount of cocktail per serving). The cocktail hour food was the best and the late night fries were pretty solid, too. There is a lot of space for people to walk around and mingle outside of the room we were in for dinner. Overall, Oakhurst was alright. I'd recommend looking elsewhere if you're looking for a place to host your wedding if you have options.

It was a shotgun start, 4 person team event. We started on hole 16 and when we got to hole 8, he told my team that we needed to pick up the pace and that we were 2 holes behind pace. This was absolutely not true as we could always see the group ahead of us. We got to hole 9 and he turned the sprinklers on at the tee box and told us we had to skip the hole. He accompanied us to the hole 10 tee box, where we passed the group ahead of us because they were still finishing 9. As soon as he left us he went back and turned the sprinklers off. So, now we had to wait. It completely ruined the experience for us to the point that we could not enjoy the remainder of the day. I thought he targeted us, but when I spoke to staff members, they said he ruins everyone's time here. They said that he ruins their tips because he upsets so many people. I have no idea why someone like this would be permitted to work in the hospitality field. This was over a $600 round for my team and we feel completely robbed of the experience. Such a beautiful track and the greens rolled so good, but once someone upsets us that much, its hard to relax and focus back on the game. Especially when he kept poking around. I reported the interaction and the pro shop manager said to ga back and play 9, but we were so over it by then. I have reached through the website to see if they will make it up to us. Have yet to receive a response. Very disappointed...

Pontiac CC is really a great value for a nice layout, old-school feel, which is easy to walk…read more There are NO bad hole designs here. Interestingly, three of the holes have 2 different greens, so the layout can really change from day to day. While this isn't the Orchards or Shepherd's Hollow, the course is manicured very nicely, and the greens always seem to be in great shape. It's a fairly short course at 6300 yards, and there's the oddball 230 yard par 3 16th in the end of it, but a nice mix of short and a few longer holes. You won't need to hit driver on every tee box here, and often position is more important than distance. I will say, however, that it's a bit too long from the women's tees. IMO, women's tees should NOT play over 5000 yards, and this measures in a 5340.

Everything went extremely well with excellent set up, a two sided buffet, and frequent change outs to ensure everyone got fed. Everyone commented on how great the chicken fajita mix was. Gently spicy and the chicken was tender. High quality guacamole, salsa, and all the fixings made this buffet a real hit. The service staff is exceptional and we were delighted with her attention to details and making our event run smoothly. We would definitely use them again to feed our group of 80+ people!

"Review #500" :-D…read more October 31, 2024 On Friday October 4th I attended a Beautiful Fall wedding at The Pine Knob Mansion for My Dear and Close friends Phil & Jessica. The main road entrance starts with a welcome sign to Pine Knob Golf Course. The winding road will lead you pass the greens with golfers, then several expensive residential homes. There are two venue banquet buildings called The Carriage and this one called The Pine Knob Mansion. Both have valet parking service at their entrance doors. My photos attached will show how wonderful this place was from start to finish. The ceremony was outside in the Garden Gazebo area overlooking the ski lifts and property of Pine Knob with fold up chairs on the grass area. This venue can accommodate all seasons of the year for many memorable and personal events. The outdoor brick patio was large enough for both cocktail hour after ceremony and again in the evening with a DJ for music and dancing. The Bride and Groom performed their special dances together on it plus with their parents. The wedding and party time continued till midnight! The efficient servers were very attentive when eating the plated sit-down dinner. They also served refill of waters quickly too. The Formal banquet room was very elegant with Chiavari Chairs, along with great lighting. Check out my attached photos of Jess and Phil's special and lovely wedding which expresses it all! The Food was Fantastic and Oh My Deeeelicious along with Great plate presentation! This location can be found on The Knot and has different price packages based on your event for food and desserts. My Friends Phi and Jess opted to bring in their own seasonal desserts with cider and donuts along with mini parfait desserts for that special Fall Style Theme. Disappointing Experience -- "Pet Friendly" Comes With Major Fine Print…read more As a Rochester resident, this experience was especially disappointing. My husband and I are currently renovating our home and booked the Royal Park Hotel while in town for business and personal reasons. We planned to bring our small, well-behaved, 10-year-old dog. After booking online, I called because there was no option to add a pet. Cynthia confirmed they allow dogs and explained the policy. Most rules were reasonable, but two immediately stood out: a strict no-barking policy and dogs MUST be crated whenever the owner leaves the room. We have traveled extensively with our dog and stayed at upscale hotels including the Amway Grand Plaza, The Drake, Hilton properties, and others without issue. Our dog has never been crate trained. I completely understand requiring a dog to be secured when housekeeping enters, but requiring us to cage our 10-year-old dog simply to leave for dinner seems excessive. The no-barking rule also lacks reasonable nuance. Obviously, no guest should be allowed to leave a dog barking continuously and disturbing others. But an occasional bark? Do we also have a no-child-crying policy? There's a difference between normal occasional noise and an actual disturbance. Our dog isn't even a barker, and we travel with a dog camera to monitor her. Then there's the $150 pet fee, which is one of the highest we've encountered. For $150, I'd expect a genuinely pet-friendly experience--not simply permission to have a dog while imposing unusually restrictive rules. I went to the hotel in person hoping common sense and reasonable discretion might prevail. Deanna at the front desk reiterated that it was policy, while a manager beside her confirmed the same. There was seemingly no willingness to discuss an alternative. So we cancelled our reservation and booked The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham instead. What a difference. The Townsend charges a $50 pet fee, provides dog beds and bowls, and does NOT require our dog to be crated when we leave the room. That's what I consider pet friendly. Something else happened while I was at Royal Park that further illustrated my concerns. An older gentleman was attempting to check in early. He was told that even if his room was already ready, he would be charged a $75 early check-in fee. Ironically, I made our same-day Townsend reservation around noon. They had a room available, welcomed us immediately, and charged no early check-in fee. That's hospitality. If a room isn't ready, obviously a guest should wait until check-in. But if it's cleaned, available, and ready, charging $75 just to hand someone the key a few hours early feels like nickel-and-diming rather than luxury hospitality. Perhaps Royal Park should reassess its $150 pet fee, mandatory crating policy, barking policy, and $75 early check-in fee against comparable luxury hotels and current industry standards. This is particularly disappointing because my husband and I got married at the Royal Park last year and spent tens of thousands of dollars there. Unfortunately, even during our wedding experience, we often felt policies took precedence over hospitality. At times, it felt like constantly being reminded of what we could and couldn't do rather than being treated like valued guests. After this experience, I genuinely regret choosing Royal Park for our wedding. It's also surprising for a hotel in Rochester, an incredibly dog-friendly community. Leader Dogs for the Blind is headquartered right here in Rochester Hills. Nobody is asking the hotel to tolerate destructive animals, aggressive behavior, incessant barking, or irresponsible owners. Address an actual problem when one occurs. Charge for damage. Address legitimate noise complaints. That's completely reasonable. But don't treat every well-behaved dog as a problem before one exists and then charge guests $150 for the privilege. Royal Park has unfortunately lost our business. I will no longer recommend it to friends, neighbors, or visitors--particularly those traveling with pets. The Royal Park markets itself as a luxury hotel. Luxury hospitality should involve discretion, common sense, flexibility, and making guests feel welcomed--not simply repeating, "It's policy." Policies are important. Hospitality is knowing how to apply them with common sense.
