We absolutely LOVE this doggie daycare. We've been taking our boxer (Ike) for over 3 years (he is 4 years old) and use them 2x every week, and the boarding services when we go out of town (usually a long weekend, occasionally a week.) Oh, and you don't have to make a reservation beforehand (unless it's a holiday weekend, as they'll run out of space.) The staff are helpful, friendly, and greet Ike by name when we drop him off. He is ecstatic to go in the morning, and comes home TIRED!!! (So, really, two days of him being tired for the price of one. LOL) It's a bit of a drive for us, as we work in the opposite direction - but after trying a pet resort closer to our home/work, and having a horrible experience, we decided Four Paws on Courthouse Rd. was worth the drive. first time there. Staff: wonderful. Because of Bailey, who never gave up, we were able to find the vaccination record and I did not miss my week at the beach. Every time I called, I was given a report on my miniature schnauzer. Dog: don't know because I wasn't there, but when I picked him up, he strutted out with a proud and happy demeanor. I really enjoy four Paws pet resort. Marley my Siberian husky really enjoys coming here especially when I pull up in the parking lot. He knows what time it is. He's really excited. He's sad sometimes he doesn't wanna go. I appreciate them taking the time to understand that my dog has high energy and they understand that he's a husky. I appreciate their patience. Recently boarded my two dogs here for 3 nights. Both dogs are in great health, no issues, not sick, etc. It has been a week since picking them up. One dog, our Golden Retriever, seemed off the first day or so after picking him up. He wouldn't poop for two days, followed by the rest of the week uncontrolled diarrhea. Our other dog, Chocolate Lab, was fine for the first few days until a day or so ago. Now she also has uncontrolled diarrhea. This is unlike them to get sick like this, especially for multiple days. I don't know what they were exposed to over their stay, but something had made them both sick and I will never bring them back to this location again. read more

Warning ‼ My fur baby is now missing one eye after being boarded here. Incident took place Monday. I was informed my dog's eye was dislodged from the socket and right off I was being told it was common or normal for my breed and age of dog. My family and friends own small breeds of different sorts and have never had this issue. He was taken to the hospital and they could not save the eye. They also determined that this was NOT normal and resulted from traumatic injury. It's is now Thursday and I still do not have an incident report or video footage from the facility. No one has told me what happened while he was in their care. They keep saying they are sorry but still have yet to give me answers. Owner said he would provide report after investigation but why does that take more than 24hrs from an incident involving emergency surgery? They accuse the hospital of being overhanded on their report to me and all the hospital did was report their findings and facts, something four paws for some reason has a hard time of doing.i lost trust with this center and made sure my dog was discharged my boyfriend and not them. This caused him to rearrange his work plans. How do you brace your child to see their dog perfectly fine one day and in pain, discomfort and missing an eye when she returns from travel? read more

I was a customer with my prior dog for 13 years until he passed (A Dane/terrier mix) last year. This place is now despicable! I was refused boarding because my lab mix had terrier in him. I wasn't told about this new "no pitbull policy" until I arrived to drop of, after disclosing the breed when making my reservation. This is a completely terrible way to do business, considering more than 80% of shelter rescues have some form of terrier in them. Thanks for making your meaningful contribution to the homeless dog situation. I'm ecstatic to take my business and my dog's care elsewhere where he will get the love and attention he deserves. I actually applauded this place a few years ago when my Dane/"pitbull" mix was mauled by a lab while in their care for taking care of vet bills and waiving fees to make it right... i came back for years after... now I know it was simply negligence. You should be ashamed, you lost a once loyal customer for life! I encourage others to stay away from this intolerant place for blaming a breed (or even fraction-thereof) rather than their own negligence in supervising animals in their care apprioriately. Don't trust anyone with your family member if they are too ignorant to realize breeds have nothing to do with aggression. read more

Another person affected by the pit bull ban, which is listed nowhere on their website. My reservation was accepted, then when I showed up -- to a rather rundown building -- they turned me away because my rescue "looked" like a pit mix, which they couldn't accept because of "lockjaw." Being able to guess breed and temperament on sight and the concept of lockjaw are all myths, which I'd hope professionals who work with animals *(such as the ones my pet had already interacted with and cleared of any behavioral issues) would know. While their policy certainly messed up my day, I am more than happy to be able to take my pet somewhere more informed going forward. read more

This is the most flexible care facility you can find! Daycare doesn't have to be scheduled and they are flexible if you schedule boarding and need to cancel! My life is ever changing and i appreciate that so much. Boarding is noon to noon and they allow pickups every day accept Holidays. My pup is always tired when he comes home. His bed is washed if there are accidents with water. They also have options for bath and nail clippings Staff are always friendly and sweet to him! Appreciate this team! read more

I found this place by just showing up. The employees immediately asked if I would like a tour. Of course I would love to see how the place looks when there is no appt....Amazing!!! Clean, age appropriate and staffed with wonderful employees. We have been here for daycare a few times. I have a puppy who enjoys the employees and all his new friends. I'm not sure why the reviews are not all 5 star. Every employee I have met has been amazing. In fact I haven't heard such politeness in quite a while. Each time I have been the the staff is cleaning and keeping the place nice. While my dog smells like "play" when he comes home.... he always has an awesome time!!! The daycare rules are so flexible, unlike most daycares, we plan on coming back more and more!!! Try them out! You won't regret it. read more

Was looking to start taking my dog here, however they do not allow pit bulls. Absolutely no reason for this rule. Dogs should be allowed in based on behavior, not breed. Funny how they said in a Google review "pit bulls don't belong here." Just plain disgusting company. Recommend else where. read more

I've used their boarding services for a couple of years now. My old dog walks in on his own, which I think is a sign he has fun running with the other dogs. They aren't terribly expensive. Often get my dog a bath before I pick him up on the last date and he's usually fairly wet. This isnt a huge deal, I'd give 4.5 stars if yelp allowed that. I see a lot of sour reviews on the place and often it's pit bull owners who are offended by the no pit bull rule. It's a business, don't take personal offense. It probably reduces their liability and creates a safer environmnet to have that rule. And yes, I completely get there are some super nice pits out there, but it's their business, so their call. The other complaints are about the occasional dog that got bit by another dog. What would you rather have, your dog caged up all day and no risk of a bite, or do you want your dog to run around during the day with other dogs even though there is a small risk of a dog fight. I'd rather give my dog a chance to run with the pack and burn energy even if there is a small risk. My dog is too old to get into it with another dog, but if you have a dog that isn't fully socialized then any free-run play time kennel is not appropriate for your dog. I would recommend bringing a dog mat from home if boarding overnight. All in all, I appreciate the service they provide and the proof is in the pudding, my dog eagerly walks into the kennel without needing to be led in. He clearly is having a positive experience going there. read more

My husky enjoyed his stay, he loves the ladies!

We had been taking our dogs there for 4 yrs but I don't know what's been going on for the last 1-1/2 yrs. It has really gone down hill. New management? New staff? I don't know but they seem to not care about the animals anymore and the place is nasty. We took one of our dogs there last summer when we went on a trip and they let a sick dog stay that got other dogs sick which ended up in quarantine, including ours, and they weren't apologetic at all. We took a break from them for a while but then heard they got new staff and were turning the place around so we gave them another try with our new dog. He had been going there for daycare & boarding periodically. Recently he was boarded overnight and when we got him back the next day, he was severely dehydrated & throwing up. We had a talk with them before boarding the next time and they said they would keep a close eye on him. I was hesitant but we didn't have another option as it was a holiday weekend so this last time he went, we called during our trip to check on him & they said everything was great & he was good. My husband picked him up 2 days later & they hadn't even bathed him when we were told he would be and dry by our 9:00 pick up time. He was then told that our dog couldn't come back because "he's too hyper". Ummm... he's a husky & always has been so what's the difference now? And why weren't we told this 2 days prior when we were told everything was great?? These people have no business caring for their clients babies. Completely unprofessional and rude! read more

I have a sheltie (very high energy) and when I pick him up from Four Paws he is tuckered out! This place offers dog daycare, boarding, and grooming. The rates are pretty typical for most dog places. They have long indoor and outdoor runs for dogs to play in during day care, so it doesn't matter what time of the year it is, your dog will get plenty of play time. The place typically gets about 20-30 dogs for daycare, so your dog will have plenty of playmates. read more

Our Border Collie and Aussie love, love, love 4 paws on courthouse road. If I mention that they are going to daycare they go crazy. Then we get in the car and about 1/4 mile from 4paws they start crying. When we arrive they are so excited and run into the facility crying, It's just the best as far as we're concerned. Staff is wonderful, they know our dogs and their names without asking. We board with 4 paws and have never had any problems. So this is the place if you want good daycare and boarding. They have baths after boarding and that is also done well. We go on vacation feeling confident that our best friends are well taken care of and happy as can be. read more

First off, they don't take any sort of pit bull mix. We have a black Lab with an unknown breed mixed in and I mentioned that based on where we found him it may be pit bull. "Sorry, he can't be boarded here, we don't take any pit bull mix whatsoever." So I bring him in for our grooming appointment and we're turned away at the door because we don't have a bordatella vaccine and "you need a bordatella vaccine for a kennel." Um...we have a bath & brush appointment? And couldn't you have made this clear when I called to make said appointment? I don't know, folks...this place is NOT for me. read more

This is my first time taking my dog here as I am a new pet owner and should have done a better job of doing research. I have a very playful doxon/Chihuahua mix. I dropped him off for two days and he came back tired which I assumed was from him having a great time playing with other dogs but he came back with a huge scar on his eye and he is limping. I used to use this kennel, but it is poorly operated. the last straw was when my dog was in poor condition when I picked her up. It took 15 minutes for the attendant to find her, too. It turned out that she was "hiding under a bench" and no one knew here whereabouts. Also, the attendant indentified her as "Oh you mean the old dog...". The rates were reasonable, but saftey never seems to be a priority. The people caring for the dogs seem uneducated, inattentive and it always seems understaffed. If your dog loves a free for all, Lord of The Flies scenerio, this is your place. Just understand the reason that they are tired when you pick them up is from the chaos of a pack of dogs running freely together. Please research the news stories that have been broadcasted about this kennel. And never, ever get your dog groomed here. The owner, on television, explained that they use human shampoo-and that there was nothing wrong with this practice. he should pour a little in his eyes to see if it is really"ok", plus it over strips the dogs coat and skin. I adore Four Paws! The price, experience, and peace of mind I have when I drop Betty and Agatha off makes leaving my fur babies worth it. The staff is super helpful, polite, and educated and the front office is clean, leaving me to wonder how they clean all that dog hair so well. This is big for me as cleanliness is everything. I have tried other boarding places in RVA but none compare to Four Paws. I recommend and will continue to recommend Four Paws to any and everyone. read more
