My wife came out of the class much more comfortable handling, loading, and shooting her pistol. The class helped me with my accuracy by giving me a few directions. Kevin and Lance gave a very good classroom portion shoeing the importance of gun safety and general knowledge. I found Smokingun Firearms academy online and seen that they offered multilevel classes from beginner to advanced/defensive shooting. This was exactly what I was looking for. I'm so happy I booked a class. I started with level one even though I had firearms experience, because I wanted help finding my weaknesses and building a better foundation, while reprogramming myself from a lifetime of bad habits. Thom has done just that. By the end of the first level course, I already feel more confident in my shooting ability and technique. I will continue range practice, as well as dry fire practice on the techniques that was taught to me during the course. Hubs needed a refresher course to reapply for his CCW, and I figured what they hey -- I may as well…read moretag along and get mine again, too. My brother previously had attended this course and highly recommended Arizona Home Defense and Virgil. I called and spoke with the instructor, Virgil, who was able to get hubs and I booked into class the very next evening. yay! We showed up and Virgil had everyone's paperwork set up, so we could start filling everything out for the background check and fingerprints before class, which was awesome so we wouldn't have to sit there after the course to get everything done. The course itself was great -- short, sweet, to the point. Virgil gave us the information quickly and thoroughly covered required materials. He has a lot of experience/knowledge in guns overall and has a great sense of humor, however, if you offend easily, wear earmuffs or quietly bleep all the f-bombs in your head while he talks. I, personally, thought he was hilarious and the f-bombs didn't bother me (military guys use it 17 times in a sentence with 25 words, haha). After the course we got our fingerprints taken and were on our way, completed paperwork in hand (YOU have to mail the paperwork in for the CCW card but all instructions are included with your packet). I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to take a CCW class... you'll thank me later that you didn't spend an excruciating whole day training on material that Virgil can deliver to you in one evening.

DO NOT give them your money in the form of a gift certificate. If they ever respond to my messages and schedule the class, I will update my rating, but there is clearly a lack of customer service in a big way.

He taught him how to take apart his gun and what the parts were called. My son loved working will Gil and learned to properly stand and shoot a pistol and a rifle as well as hand grips. Gil also taught me things I didnt even learn in my CCW class. He is very patient and knowledgeable I would recommend him above the rest as he is very detailed. We were also offered snacks and drinks! Now thats customer service. If you want to learn the correct ways to shoot hes your guy.

We couldn't have been more pleased and happy to have met Karin and Oz and now have taken two of their classes. Oz is such a wonderful instructor and so knowledgeable! His experience in the military and as a SWAT member and lead instructor give him a world of real life experiences to bring to his training. He takes his time with each student to insure they are understanding that particular drill and that we can achieve success with it. He is also very personable so for even the most novice student won't feel overwhelmed or nervous. Karin is also wonderful as an additional instructor as well as an extra set of eyes and ears to help you out and give you personalized attention if necessary.
