My brother previously had attended this course and highly recommended Arizona Home Defense and Virgil. I called and spoke with the instructor, Virgil, who was able to get hubs and I booked into class the very next evening. yay! We showed up and Virgil had everyone's paperwork set up, so we could start filling everything out for the background check and fingerprints before class, which was awesome so we wouldn't have to sit there after the course to get everything done. The course itself was great -- short, sweet, to the point. Virgil gave us the information quickly and thoroughly covered required materials. He has a lot of experience/knowledge in guns overall and has a great sense of humor, however, if you offend easily, wear earmuffs or quietly bleep all the f-bombs in your head while he talks. I, personally, thought he was hilarious and the f-bombs didn't bother me (military guys use it 17 times in a sentence with 25 words, haha). After the course we got our fingerprints taken and were on our way, completed paperwork in hand (YOU have to mail the paperwork in for the CCW card but all instructions are included with your packet). I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to take a CCW class... you'll thank me later that you didn't spend an excruciating whole day training on material that Virgil can deliver to you in one evening.

However, that being said, I imagine that even those with extensive experience will end up taking away something valuable from these two brilliant instructors, making the price for this course well worth what you pay. For additional context, I purchased a discounted voucher via Groupon, but I was so happy with the experience that I am looking for additional courses by these instructors and would be happy to pay the full list price (which is already competitive with other course prices) This course was about so much more than just gun safety, the laws, and how to concealed carry. While we did get into proper gun handling safety and techniques, the overarching theme was the Mental aspect. At first I thought the name Mental Marksmanship was targeted for people "Crazy" about guns. This assumption, was far from the case. What I found was that the instructors were raising really thought provoking questions. I went home really thinking about the impacts of carrying a gun. They really hit home on not just the legal ramifications of owning a gun, but several other areas which I will leave for them to share with you. Additionally, the primary instructor is incredibly qualified to be teaching- I can't remember all the details, but I do remember he served in high up leadership roles for law enforcement for many many years. He's seen it all, and I immediately felt comfortable and respected what he had to share. His assistant was also wonderful, qualified, and really emphasized the "Mental" aspect of this course. The two really complimented each other. Lastly, I had no expectations of this course, content wise. It was close by and had great reviews for a great prices. I was just looking to get a CCW, but ended up taking home so much more. Attending with an open mind will grant you an incredible experience.

I enjoyed that day so much, I signed up for Rock Mountain Defense CCW class. Then I had fun trying to do the Navy Seal Rifle qualification course. It will make you appreciate the skill level of our talented military, police officers and first responders. They also offered a free AR cleaning class at Sportsmans Warehouse. I care a lot about a persons background and history when I am paying for a class. Jon, being a retired Phoenix Police Officer, has practical insight​ on defense with a rifle.
