Well, it IS as awful as the other reviews indicate. This Ramada hotel is a motel whose better days are behind it. My room was dark when I arrived after midnight, and the light switch was for a lamp whose bulb needed replacing, so I needed my phone to locate other lamps. Even in the dim light, the place was shabby, to put it kindly. The dirty windows had heavy curtains but not sheers, to give you and your neighbors a good look at each other. An aroma of stale smoke, Pine Sol, and possibly air fresheners hung about the non-smoking room. Cigarette burns decorated the limp sheets. The tub had been painted over ages ago and was cracking. There's so much more! After reading the other reviews, I knew to check for bed bugs and found none, but this did not keep me from staying up itching and regularly waking to the loud fits of groaning emitted by the elderly mini-fridge. The wifi works fine. The breakfast buffet was starches on styrofoam. Too bad also that the route to it passed an extended-stay guest who kept his door open on a 40° F morning to greet you. The one star is for the staff (and also because it's impossible to give zero stars), who do try! At the time of my stay, Ramada Roanoke had an offer of a bottle of water and a bag of chips, but the night manager was perplexed by it. So, in the morning, was the manager. From showing the offer to both, I have checked in twice, so I am now "Duchess" of this wreck!

What a fantastic place. My daughter and about 10 other…read moregirls spent the week there attending a harp camp. It was wonderful! The place used to be a stable so each room was a horse stall. Very clean and neat...nothing really fancy, but nice comfortable beds, a dresser to store your stuff, a desk and great light for reading. But, like the other girls, my daughter did not spend much time in her room. The inn has a very comfortable common area with beautiful art work and interesting artifacts from the world-wide travels of the owners, a tv and a fabulous hearth. A great place to read or to chat with Kathy and Martin, the innkeepers. Aside from interesting stories about their interesting lives, they are just the most gracious hosts you could ever want. Such a great place for a family reunion or a wedding or any special event where you and your friends and family could fill up the rooms and take over the place. The outside seating areas are perfect for gathering and grilling and the views are so pretty. My hat's off to you, Kathy and Martin, for finding your niche in this life. Can't wait to come back next year!

The main Inn is a converted stable so each small…read moreroom is identical size and configuration, with a full size bed, small desk, and ikea type armoire-closet. Each room has different art, much of it original art and prints creates by the proprietor Kathy. This place is perfect for a group due to the gathering areas like the wonderful outdoor patio/deck and the indoor living room. And the price point is very group and family friendly. One of the reasons the price point is so great is because there are shared bathrooms down the hall rather than in your room. There are two, one for men and one for women, each has two commodes and two showers, one shower of which is ADA compliant. There is also another bathroom on the other end of the hall that is just a commode and sink. The bathroom is always very clean and I seldom bump into anyone there. If you're staying here with a group or family it's only going to be your people in the bathroom anyway. You can put some items in the shared refrigerator in the kitchen, there are glassware and plates as needed (just wash them when you're done). Breakfast is an assortment of homemade muffins and breads, jam, bitter, fresh fruit, coffee, or tea. I usually bring some hard boiled eggs or cheese, and keep it in the fridge. The proprietor is Kathy and Martin are super kind and are happy to provide suggestions about restaurants, wineries, swimming holes, etc. The property is on many acres in rural Faber, but is quite convenient to route 151 i.e. about eight minutes drive from Devils Backbone, and also about equidistant to Route 29. I've stayed here probably a dozen times with groups of friends and love it.

The pros: bedding seemed clean, lobby clean, lobby staff quick on check-in, plenty of parking as this place sits on top of a hill isolated. The cons: very lacking fitness center, room had bulbs that were out, room mirror was dirty, bathroom sink was dirty, sliding door to patio of room wasn't locked, breakfast lacked any protein options including eggs or sausage, coffee was ok, and entire hotel felt old and muggy. The AC in the room was questionable. Without staying at the other 3-4 options in the area, can't really give this 1 star. However, I've been to enough hotels to know when bare minimums aren't hit. And I've never stayed at a hotel with free breakfast that didn't at least have basic eggs, sausage, or bacon.

The Mark Addy has some things to keep in mind. Sure, there were some hiccups during our trip. We…read morerented the Kensington room, but when we arrived we found out that the AC was broken. While we knew the place had some old-time feel to it, there were some things that were a bit unexpected such as the bathroom door not closing and the TV being broken. The thing is that we weren't there to watch TV so that was minor (and clearly can be easily replaced). We found out quickly that when something goes wrong, the team in the Mark Addy will go far out of their way to try to accommodate you to the best of their ability. Without losing a step we were given access to an additional room in the event that we were too warm in the Kensington. We took advantage of that one night, it was not even necessary the second night so it was hardly an issue. In the evenings there was sangria provided, which was not only delicious but a really nice touch. By the second night we were already looking forward to it! What can't be overstated is how delicious the included breakfast is. I honestly was expecting the typical continental type breakfast. I was very mistaken. Their menu is creative, fresh, and absolutely delicious. It was more of a treat than it was just a meal. Overall, the place is an old-ish inn with some character. You're not going to find some modernized place and, yeah there are some quirky things that could be fixed. However, it's a whole FEEL that you get from this place and the view from the front is gorgeous. Add that to the quality of the treatment and food and I think you have a solid winner. I'm grateful for our great experience and that the Mark Addy went out of their way to make sure were were comfortable and happy!

Bottle of wine and candy left on the dresser. This B&B is privately owned for 13 years as of this writing. All the staff were very nice and accommodating. Ok, Baby, the parrot(?) wasn't always friendly until you give it a pet on the back of the neck :-) This was my first experience staying at a B&B so be aware some of my comments may not apply to you the reader. My first feeling was a little discomfort about staying in someone's house but the staff make you feel pretty welcomed. Breakfast is served at 9am and is a set menu which is understandable considering there's only 1 or 2 working the kitchen and dining area. Just to give you an idea of the servings, the common theme was a good healthy and hearty breakfast starting with either a fruit bowl or yogurt then a dish with eggs, meat and a carb. The meal always held until around 2pm or so. And in the evening there was always a plate of chocolate chip and white chocolate chip cookies along with a pitcher of some good sangria in the fridge in the common area kitchen. The room was very comfortable with a small flat screen TV and a couple of chairs in addition to the comfortable bed. The bathroom in the room was on the small side but very usable. Although the place is just off the main highway leading into Nellysford, it was over 30 mins from the big city in Charlottesville, so your choices for lunch and dinner were limited unless you went to the big city. If winery/meadery/distillery/brewery/cidery tours is your thing, they have plenty close by. I would recommend a stop at Hill Top winery/meadery just up the road. Overall, I would definitely recommend it. And if you decide to stay, give Baby a pet on the back of the neck and say "hey!" Just don't stick your finger in too quick or it may not come back to you! :-)
