I had a pleasant stay at the Main Street Inn. My friend, Neal, made reservations for 1 evening as we planned to check out the basketball game between Virginia Tech and Charlotte. We arrived a little after 4p on Saturday, 11/15. Since this hotel is located in downtown Blacksburg, parking isn't in abundance. Main Street Inn has roughly 7-10 spots, then there are temporary spots available in order to check in. Check in was easy enough, although the man at the counter was asleep when we arrived. The room was spacious with 2 queen size beds. Also, there was a small flatscreen television and typical things you'd find in a hotel room (hangers, dresser, clock, iron, ironing board, etc.). The bathroom was spacious and clean. The one thing that was missing was vending machines, and I didn't see an ice machine. But there is a convenience store across the street and a 7-11 about 2 blocks away, so that wasn't a big issue. The room was $200 a night. I felt that was a good deal considering its proximity to Virginia Tech's campus. On top of it, the man at the front desk was kind and helpful. Thank you, Main Street Inn, for a memorable visit. We stayed at Main Street Inn on September 8,2025, and were very disappointed. The front desk was blocked off with caution tape, and the lobby sitting room was sealed behind plastic curtains. Our room (205) was not as advertised--the only window faced a cement wall, the extra blanket had black stains, and there was black mold/dirt along the shower door. If there were water or maintenance issues, we should have been notified before booking. On the positive side, the two young women at the desk were kind and helpful, but overall, this was not the charming stay we expected and we would not return. read more

Overall a nice place to stay. It is central to businesses and close walk to campus. The check in process was quick and they have granola bars and biscotti by the front desk. The parking is a bit tight though, but at least they have a covered parking. Was convenient since it was raining when I visited. The rooms are nice. Has a sitting area with a bar and tv when you walk in, a bathroom and closet down the hall, and then the queen bed with tv, table, and night stands. The bed and pillows were comfy. The tv on the other hand was not easy to figure out. It comes on with options to choose a streaming service, but you have to log into your own account. I'm not doing that when not at home. There wasn't an option to just watch regular tv which was annoying. Overall I enjoyed this stay and would be back. read more

There are a lot of good things about the Main Street Inn. The location is central to everything, and you can walk downtown and to campus easily. The rooms were clean. Reception and check in wasn't too bad. Although the parking garage was a little tight, the price was included with the room and it's under cover. A lot of people in previous reviews complained about the size of the rooms. I thought they were fine. There's a sitting area and bedroom divided by the bathroom. There's a sink and microwave in the sitting area. I thought the price was reasonable compared to others in town. Why three stars? The walls are just about the thinnest I've ever experienced! It was SO LOUD all night. The room to the right of me had the TV on until 3:00am. The people in the room to the left of me were "working out" a large part of the evening. When a truck drove by the building, the air conditioner rattled so loudly I thought the wall was coming down! I got about three hours of sleep, which is partially due to the hard bed and pillows. Also, it would have been nice to have a small desk. So, all-in-all, I'm about 50/50 on whether I'd stay here again or not. If I do, I'm definitely bringing the ear plugs! read more

Couldn't be more dissatisfied. We made reservations about 6 months ahead of our stay for a reunion and then encouraged all our friends to also stay there. One friend was called a week ahead with an attempt to cancel their reservation. She had to prove they had paid the deposit. Then a couple days ahead of our arrival our reservation was cancelled. They said it was broken pipes in 'our' room as if we were assigned by anyone other than themselves. None of the many guests we sent to stay there saw evidence of any water reparation or other work inside and given the previous attempt to cancel another of our friend's reservations it is likely they overbooked and kicked us out. Even if they did have an issue they handled it atrociously. We can't help but wonder if they picked randomly of people who had paid less or if they chose us for the Hispanic last name. Regardless, they did absolutely nothing to help us, essentially throwing us on the sidewalk. I asked them to help at least find other accommodation and their response was 'we already refunded your deposit... what else do you want'. I said that the refund was literally the least they could do but the right thing to do was to get us another place to stay and to pay for it. That is what we would have done (and have done) for our guests had we had an issue with our rental home. Shame on them for being just awful humans and terrible business people. We had to stay 30 minutes away from our reunion friends. And they increased the cost of our long weekend by double. Don't trust them with your reservation. read more

Came here to stay for a quick trip to Blacksburg no one was at desk when I checked in. Took 15 minutes to finally have someone come to check me in. My key to room did not work so I had to go to desk again to get a new key. Room was ok. The only reason you should stay in this $200 a night hotel is for the location. Warning to everyone, this place is falling down one piece at a time. Ownership refuses to fix anything. I'm afraid the only way this place changes if it sits empty during football season, for that's when they make most of their money. If that occurs the innkeepers will sell to someone who couldn't possibly be worse than the current owners. Stay away, and trust the negative reviews others have left. read more

My husband and I have stayed at the Main Street Inn several times when visiting Blacksburg for football games. We've been in both their king and queen rooms, and both are spacious and comfortable. The rooms are also very clean. Probably the biggest disadvantage--and I'm not really sure I'd call it that--is the lack of onsite parking. They do have a small parking area on the property, but those spaces are reserved for certain guests, and you can only park there when checking in/out to drop off/pick up your bags. That said, the Kent Street garage is just across the street (you can access the garage elevators through the double doors next to Kent Jeweler's), and it is spacious and safe. You get a pass to enter and exit the garage as often as you please. Parking aside, I like that the rooms have a separate sleeping space and sitting room. They have TVs in each room, but both are ridiculously small. They could definitely use an upgrade! There's plenty of room for your bags and personal items in the rooms. The rooms also have a refrigerator, microwave, and a laptop-sized safe. The shower is a little weak, but that wasn't unexpected (our shower at home has spoiled us!). There is a separate area outside the bathroom with great lighting, a mirror, and hair dryer - perfect for the drying your hair and applying makeup. The walls are a little thin (like most hotels), so I'd suggest bringing earplugs if noise bothers you. There's usually more raucous behavior after a Hokies win, ha ha. Main Street Inn doesn't offer breakfast, but they do have coffee, tea, and cookies available throughout the day. You can always try Joe's Diner or Mill Mountain Coffee for breakfast, as both are within walking distance. This inn is very convenient to campus, Main Street, and the stadium. We basically park in the Kent Street garage all weekend, and walk everywhere. Minor parking issues aside, we'll definitely stay here again! read more

Our experience with the Main Street Inn for a recent event started with their cancellation of a friend's reservation for claimed non-payment. When that friend showed proof of payment, the Inn reinstated their reservation. Then, having apparently overbooked when they thought that room was available, they called another friend and cancelled her reservation, telling her that they'd had a pipe burst. Unacceptable. While the lobby is posh, the rooms themselves are cheap, no better than Motel 6, except that Motel 6 provides better soap. There is no free breakfast, no fitness center, and practically no on-site parking, leaving guests to cross a very busy Main St. in the likely Blacksburg rain to get to and from the parking garage. In the room, the desk chair's legs were so wobbly the chair nearly collapsed when I sat in it. I tried calling the front desk repeatedly to ask for a replacement, but they never bothered to answer. I discussed this in person with them, and they said they'd look into finding another chair. I never heard back, but every other guest I knew told me their chair was also in danger of collapsing. The shower has the cheapest possible sliding door, with the top rail so low that adults need to duck to get through. One friend scraped his head on this, though I managed to avoid it. The walls are so thin that our neighbor's phone conversation was inescapable, no matter how hard we tried to ignore it. I'm just glad that the source of the noise wasn't something more sensitive. This hotel is a waste of a prime downtown location, compounded by the incompetence and dishonesty of the management. read more

We stayed here for a mini-staycation in town. The Inn is lovely, clean, and comfortable. Love the decor. Coffee is offered around the clock with muffins and granola in the lobby. Check out Our Daily Bread, Lefty's, or Gillie's (vegetarian) if you need a more substantial breakfast. Rooms are at reasonable rates within walking distance of downtown Blacksburg. Nice hotel centrally located. We enjoyed are stay here, the hotel was clean, comfortable and overall very nice. The location is great with good restaurants and bars all walking distance. I however wasn't impressed with any of the staff clerks. They were not rude but not really friendly either. I would also highly recommend they consider getting car bumpers for the carport so no one hits the cement polls. read more

Ok, so it's not the Hilton (but I haven't liked a Hilton since Paris) but it is a pretty decent hotel close to downtown and campus. Shower is good, beds are nice, the TV's are adequate but a little small, and the rate is comparable to the other 2 hotels close to campus. The room layout is a little odd, but it slept 3 people comfortably, except for the AC. The AC blew cold air but didn't seem large enough to cool both "rooms." when the "sitting room" was cool the "bedroom" was a meat locker. Then the sun came up and the bedroom got steamy and my friend on the couch bed caught hypothermia. I can live with the fluctuating temperatures, but the customer service here is more temperamental than the environmental controls. I feel like there is a disconnect between what the owners think is happening and the real field situation. We were told that the convertible sofa would be ummm.......converted......when we got there. Nope, we had to set up the sofa bed and rob some pillows from the other bed. There also wasn't much material to sleep under to combat the sub-zero conditions in the sitting room after dawn. Also, when we checked in we were told that if the covered parking out back was full we could park in the garage across the street. I found a spot out back and parked for the night. We walked downtown to eat and returned to the hotel room to rest up for the bar crawl that was about to commence. As soon as we get in the room the phone starts ringing. It's the front desk asking us to move our vehicle to the garage. My wife went to move the vehicle and spoke to the guy at the front desk who said that the covered spots were reserved. What? Reserved for who? There is plenty of reserved parking for check-ins and loading, and there is no sign on the covered parking that says anything about being reserved. Did I not pay enough to park at the hotel? There were also a multitude of other minor annoyances that wouldn't fly at a Super 8, but appear to be OK for here. So, the AC and customer service sucks, the location is nice and the price is right. If I were to rank the 3 hotels close to campus, it would go: 1. The Inn at Virginia Tech, and tied for second would be this place and the Holiday Inn. read more

Main Street Inn has become my home-away-from-home when visiting my daughter at Virginia Tech. EXCELLENT location for eating/shopping along Main Street, and you're less than a 15-minute walk from even the furthest reaches of campus. Parking is via a secure parking deck across the street. Their online reservations system allow you to pick the exact room you'll be staying in. Stayed here overnight when I was visiting the main campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. Apparently they are one of the oldest Inn's in the area (very informative binder in each room, I learned all about what is a Hokie and the cannon, etc). Very friendly place, love the complimentary Keurig machine in the lobby, theyhave kept the business updated (free WiFi). They are located downtown, next to some dining spots, close to just about everything. Rooms are clean and staff very helpful. However due to the location, parking is not attached (they offer the Kent business complex across the street) and have no kitchen, which is a bit of a problem as in the morning I have to hunt for a place to eat breakfast, nothing close by except a Starbucks. read more

Fantastic place to stay for trips to Blacksburg. The Inn is located right downtown and is within walking distance to tons of bars and restaurants, as well as the campus. There is parking available either at the Inn or across the street in the garage. They don't offer breakfast, but you do get granola bars, apples, or biscoti. Our family had a conference to attend at Virginia Tech, chose to stay at Main Street Inn and basically had a good experience. As other Yelpers have pointed out, the downtown location is excellent with lots of little shops, restaurants and places to explore. Loved being able to walk to the Virginia Tech campus, the public library, the historic Alexander Black house and the farmer's market. The Inn was very clean and staff friendly and responsive to our needs. However, did have some misinformation given by a front desk clerk which might have changed my mind about staying here: I asked if there were bathtubs in the room and was told "yes I think so." I like to take my regular evening bubble bath so this was a "biggie" for me. I also asked to book for two nights. When we arrived we found there was only a shower and the clerk hadn't booked us for the second night. Additionally the fold-out bed in the couch was impossibly uncomfortable and I basically lost a night of sleep because of this. I was put in contact with the hotel manager who did act swiftly to replace the mattress in the couch with a new, comfortable foam-type one and she also made sure our family was able to stay for the second night we needed. I asked for and was given a discount because of all of the missteps and the fact that one of the hotel clerks had been remiss in her handling of our reservation. We did appreciate how easy it was to obtain extra towels, soap and blankets. The room was very quiet and we really liked the fact that there was a separating wall between where the pull-out couch was located and the full-size bed. I agree with one Yelper that a real Continental breakfast amenity would have been nice though. There were granola bars, apples and bananas and some very small store-bought muffins available but none of these were really intriguing and we ultimately chose other options like going to a great bakery called "Our Daily Bread" and picking up some fresh and enticing pastries. read more

My husband love staying here when we come to visit Blacksburg. The rooms are spacious, come with a sofa bed for someone else to stay that separate from the bedroom which is nice. The rooms are clean, new and the beds are comfortable. It's in the middle of everything and walking distance to the bars, restaurants, campus, and lane stadium. If it weren't for its spot on Main Street, it would be tough to overlook the thin walls, low water pressure and small rooms. I checked out the hotel online and had high hopes, because it looked like a nice place. I was wrong, so the Main Street gets 1 star. Let me break it down for you: To earn 2 stars the hotel would've needed to be clean. There was a dead bug on the bathroom floor when we walked in. When we woke up the first morning we found another dead bug in the bed. Ew. The next day I pulled the covers off to check. Instead there were blood stains on the sheets. To earn 3 stars the hotel needs a comfortable bed and sheets that fit on it!! There were no fitted sheets, just flat sheets, so in the middle of the night I woke up wound around loose sheets and sleeping on the plastic mattress cover. The bottom sheet was no where near big enough for the bed so it just wouldn't stay on. The heavy comforter was too much for VA in the summer and made me sweat all night. To earn 4 stars the rooms need a better layout. There was no night stand on my side of the bed, so I had to put my phone/alarm across the room. There were no outlets on the one night stand that was there. We never even used the sitting room, so it was pretty wasted space. And on top of all this, believe the other reviewers when they say the walls are PAPER THIN! Could definitely hear the neighbors TV at 11:30 at night and everything going on next door. Oh, and whoever painted the place should've been fired on the spot. Different colored splotches on the wall, paint on the ceiling--it just made it feel like a cheap motel. And finally, to earn 5 stars, the customer service would have to be excellent. Instead, I waited in the lobby for 15 minutes with no one behind the desk to be able to check out. Oh, and you can't park in the hotel's lot, which would've been much more convenient. But they don't tell you this. So...avoid this one if you can! read more

Main Street Inn does not know how to run a business. I am a local who is getting maried in October 2010. when I called to reserve rooms in Nov 2009 they said they would not be able to reserve rooms until the Hokie football schedule was released. I understood this and had them put my name on a waiting list to be called once the schdule was released. They did not call me so I called them. Their next excuse was they didnt know when Parents Weekend was scheduled for that month and would call me back. Once again, I found out the dates and called since they did not call me. After 3 phonecalls I finally reached the booking person and now she says that the owners of the Inn have booked an event for my wedding weekend and there arent any rooms available!!! She also stated that she knew this information 3 weeks ago and didnt call to inform me. THIS IS A SMALL TOWN WORD TRAVELS FAST AND I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO MY OUT OF TOWN GUESTS SINCE THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO TREAT THEIR LOCALS!!!!! read more

I stayed at this hotel during a football weekend. It's a bit pricey, but slightly more convenient than other places I've stayed in Blacksburg. The hotel rooms were clean, although were a little cramped. For a new hotel, some of the furniture seemed a bit old fashioned, and the TV's were entirely too small. It's nice to have a separate sitting area, but when we had friends from another room all sitting in there, there wasn't much room to move around. I've been in other suite style hotels in Blacksburg that had much more room. There was plenty of parking across the street, and it's an easy straight shot to campus either walking or driving. The walk to downtown is short, which is the biggest selling factor for this hotel. Next time I'm in town, the deciding factor between this hotel and a few others will mainly be the price, because while it was nice, many of the other hotels near campus are equally as good, and most of them offer free shuttle service downtown. read more
