Well, I broke the cardinal rule and went again Yelp. With only a couple reviews and several that sounded kinda rant-y, I decided to check it out. Turns out, they were spot on. Unless you have an afternoon to dedicate to a mediocre meal that look elsewhere. The older gal taking orders was taking them as fast as people walked in the door. She would warn everyone that the pizzas take 35-45 minute but said nothing about the wait for sandwhiches. We ordered 5 sandwiches to go. Thinking we would have them in less than 10 minutes. Problem was, the kid in the back took about 6-9 minutes per sandwich, yes it's actually possible. She would make pizzas and there was another gal washing dishes but no one else would help this kid. The sanitary considerations I don't even want to mention but repeatedly he would wipe his hands on his pants, a dish rag that he used to wash the counter and scratch his face and arms. Long story short, it took 45 painful minutes to get 5 sandwiches and cost me $47. If I wasn't invested for $50 I probably would have walked after about 20 minutes. read more

Stopped in Walden for lunch and saw this place on the Main Street. We should have looked at reviews before going, they are absolutely true. Service was awful, the older lady behind the counter was rude and seemed inconvenienced when we ordered. Food was not good. We got the chicken parm sandwich and to say it was worse than hospital food would be a compliment. read more

I had two additional unauthorized payments charged to my card. She said take it up with my CC company and said Bite Me when I told of Yelp's lousy reviews. She did call back and say that the only charge she saw was the one for my order which I was not disputing. One of the unauthorized payments on my card she said was a business prepaid card yet it came up on my acct and the other she could not explain. Funny that all three charges on my CC were from Four Winds Pizza. The only thing I liked about the place was the sign on the facade. If you are a pizza connoisseur like me don't go here, but if you do pay with cash. Next time in town I'll be going to River Rock Café or Stockman Bar & Grill, as the Moose Cafe is no longer open. read more

Decided to stop in for a lighter lunch before a hiking trip. The lady who runs the shop seemed bothered by our presence. A member in our party asked for pickles on his sandwich and was simply told "no". Sad to see that she couldn't accommodate such a simple request for a sandwich shop. Pitiful excuse for a restaurant. The owner is rude and hateful toward children. She yelled at our young child who briefly stepped into the antique area. She told us she was "sick of kids" that they are "lil brats" and when we tried to ask what he had done she started swearing and asked us to leave while yielding a knife. It was frightening to our son and he started crying. We asked several locals and they said they don't know how she is still in business, that she often just goes off on people verbally attacking them and screaming. Locals refuse to step foot in her doors, just ask a few yourself. read more

Went two times. The first time I got a less than average sub and some of the rudest customer service I've experienced. The second time, I walked in, said hi to the lady and looked over the menu. An older woman, presumably the owner needs a lesson in customer service. Based on how she spoke to us and snapped a derogatory remark at others walking out - this woman shouldn't run a shop on Main Street of a small town that depends on tourists for a majority of its revenue. I gave it 1 star for the size of the ice cream cones they make. (Huge!) And 1 star for the young teenager that was trying to be kind behind the counter. This spot is a fun little blend. It is an oder at the counter place with a section of collectables on the side. Pleanty of seating and some games. We are only doing carry out during Covid times. Hungry for pizza, I looked to Yelp. Interestingly, the poor reviews for this spot were all about service, so I was prepared for a bit of color. No online menu, and no offer of we have hot sandwiches and..... wwhrn I called in. We often order the house supreme pizza when we try a new spot. It took 30 minutes, made to order and was really tasty. The ingredients were fresh and generous with not too much sauce. Golden cheese...this spot sorta has a local take it or leave it air, and I was not offended. We are already checking out the menu for what else we want to pick up while we are camping nearby. When I teased the lady behind the counter about the lack of an online menu, she replied "It ain't happening". read more

The ice cream was fine, nothing to die for but the service was incredibly poor. The person working there by herself was abrasive and not very happy. She barely smiled and flared at us for asking about the menu. When our order was up she put it on the counter and walked away. She didn't mention it was ready or anything. Very weary at first because the last taking our order was not friendly at all. I was actually very worried about the food, especially after sitting down and reading reviews to pass the time. The reviews were not kind at all, specific to the service. But the part of our service that was absolutely wonderful was the sweet young girl who brought our plates and pizza. I really have no idea about the pizza, but the chocolate milkshakes are a must when my parents and I stop by Walden. While you wait for the milkshakes to be made, peruse the vintage items for sale in one corner of this huge former dance hall. It's a weird, dimly lit space, and the bathrooms are eccentric (though clean), but you'll forget all that once you've got your milkshake in your hands. A cool stop on a hot day. Even one star is more than this establishment deserves. I understand that small town restaurants move at a slower pace but this was ridiculous. We were told upon ordering that it would be a 40 minute wait for our pizza. It took TWICE that amount of time. The pizza was marginal at best and definitely not worth the wait. The one adult staff member was cranky bordering on rude. The two children staff were okay but not friendly. Although we didn't have dessert it appeared that their ice cream and shakes were the stars of this show. I'd recommend only having dessert if stopping here. As far as cleanliness, I'm not sure what the health inspector has rated this place but it can't be good. Didn't appear to be restaurant grade facilities and it was dirty and sticky. If you MUST stop in Walden to eat I'd recommend just snacks from the gas station. read more

These reviews are accurate. It's not a reflection on Walden, though. Sometimes one bad apple spoils the whole bunch. The restaurants work hard to offer good food in a pleasant atmosphere. If you are wanting pizza there's a relatively new place in a log building that makes the BEST wood-fired pizza. Wonderful atmosphere, cold beer and cocktails, a large parking lot for your RVs and campers, and music, horseshoes and corn hole in the summer months. And it's only 1/4 mile outside Walden on CO14! Beautiful mountain vista from two decks! read more

When was the last time you had handmade pizza? I mean really handmade. No mixer. The owner mixes the dough everyday by hand. Fabulous! She is the only employee and dedicated to her craft. Don't expect fast as everything is done by hand but it's worth the wait. read more
