Steve and his wife Eden run a great little restaurant here in Saratoga. Food is excellent as well as the atmosphere. Amazing meal and you get treated like family

The place was small and quaint and I really didn't think we were going to be able to be seated for dinner. All of the tables were taken, besides the table we were able to get. The menu was pretty straightforward with the choices that they offer. For our table we had two orders of spaghetti and meatballs, a salami panini, a meatball sandwich, and a caprese salad that was big enough to share. All of the food was made to order and they all came out hot. The food was all really good, and the caprese was a hit with us. We shared tiramisu that was also delicious. Being that the dessert was so good, I ordered the chocolate banana cake to go and some cheesecake. Outside of having good food, the owners were very friendly, and they personally asked everyone if they were satisfied with their meals. This is a place you come for a sit down meal where you can talk with friends and family and enjoy the chill vibe. I will be coming back to the grumpy Italian for sure.

If you find yourself driving through the small town of Saratoga you have GOT to check out The Grumpy Italian. This little spot is absolutely perfect for a quick bite to eat, a hang out spot or even a casual date night. The decor is clean, rustic and just the right amount of Italian charm. I loved the mosaic tile tables, Jenga and a deck of cards at every table, an oversized panoramic of the Brooklyn Bridge and family photos hung with pride. The Grumpy Italian reminds me of Luke's from Gilmore Girls where all the locals come for good food, community and don't forget the prominent 'no cell phone' sign - rather The Grumpy Italian does not offer wi-fi and strongly encourages patrons to 'talk to each other'. The food: the pizza was fantastic, perfectly wood fired without all the burnt black bits that normally accompany wood fired pizza. Check it out - you won't regret it.

Since I have…read morefamily nearby there isn't much need to get a room here or any other lodging business in town. But I do enjoy coming here for lunch. I usually go to the bar section of the place in which they have their own craft beer. The lunches are good and have hearty portions. And often my visits can have an exhaustive nature to them so escaping to this bar which is fairly quiet during the day for a pint is very nice. Getting a craft beer pint reminds me of where I live now where defaulted beer that everyone associates with beer drinking isn't the norm. It's been a while since I have had an evening meal here but I recently have had their breakfast buffet which is very nice. The food is nice and fresh and flavorful! Last year my father passed away and we did a private catering event in the dining room which was very nice. They got us in on very short notice and the event went quite smoothly. The organizer was extremely helpful and organized and laid out all the options for the event we were needing to do after the funeral. So that went quite smoothly. I am not sure when my next visit back will be but if it's a trip of a recreational and casual nature I will definitely stop by the bar for a pint of beer!

The room and bathroom were dismal, small and abused. At the price they charged $250 for a pool side queen (definitely not a queen bed), over priced, nickel and dimed me by charging 3% more because I reserved with credit card. When I requested to change the card on file they claimed "policy" of $10 per day of cancellations before they could change the card. This is obviously a locally depressed economy where they are short staffed and chiseling you for every cent they can squeeze out of you. Staff in the restaurants were nice but obviously overwhelmed, the "included" breakfast purportedly has an order-able menu but due to lack of staffing wasn't an option. In short I won't be back, it's obvious the only folks enjoying this place are the owners who likely fly in on the private jets the come right over the pool at 200 feet.

We came in about 6pm, (no reservation we took our chances) and was seated right away. I was impressed by the ceiling chandeliers, and the cozy atmosphere. The room we were in accommodate two tables, we sat in one by a window. The same crystal chandelier matched in every room and hallway. The velvet drapes with the hallway bench by the stairs. The rooms were small, you could hear them talking, word by word, if you keep quiet because of the echo. I love the fact, it's a Victorian home, but the toilet didn't flush (when I got there and when I used it). The room was comfortable, being 79 degrees outside. I ordered Seafood Fettuccine, and salad. Hubby ordered NY Steak & Lobster. The steak was 10oz. and it came with salad mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were delicious, best mashed he ever had. The steak was pretty good when eaten dipped in butter sauce (he said). My Fettuccine was very hot. As it cools down it start to taste 'runny' but good. I'm taking 3/4th for another meal. The crab was shredded, equals to one crab leg. I've eaten better Seafood (shrimp & shredded crab) Fettuccine in the past. We waited a long time for our check! I'm glad we're just traveling, I don't think we'll be coming back.

He brought us a water bowl for the dogs, and he gave us a ton of recommendations on the menu as well. For our meal, we started with the dolma and kimchi pancake. The dolma was great, but the star here was the kimchi pancake! It was crispy, flavorful with the dipping sauce, and so delicious I wish we ordered 2. For our entrees, I had the General Tso's cauliflower which was the best fried cauliflower I've ever had. They were sooo extremely crispy and very flavorful! You can't go wrong with these or the cauliflower wings. The sauce on this was a tad spicier than I normally like that day, but that did not bother me given how delicious the dish was. My partner got the lettuce wraps which had a yummy tofu scramble that we also really enjoyed. Overall, I love the concept of comfort vegetarian food that Sweet Melissa offers, and I am so glad we stopped by here. The portion sizes are great, and I forgot to mention the great cocktails we had too! I would definitely come back if I'm in town again.

Since we had our dogs, we sat on the patio. Any other day, we wouldn't have done this - it was nearly 90* outside without a single cloud in sight - but our car was in the repair shop and we didn't have another option. We made a note to order and eat as fast as we could. We had our drink orders taken, and the server brought our dogs out a fresh bowl of water. We were waiting for a long time to get our drinks, and even longer to order our food. There was a sliver of shade that our dogs were able to lay under, but us humans were absolutely roasting. After waiting for 20 minutes to order our lunch, I actually went inside to order myself. We spent another 20 minutes waiting for our food to come out, our drinks nearly hot from the sun. When our food came out, the server apologized for the lack of shade and mentioned that Sweet Melissa does have shades, but they don't stand up against the wind, so they take them down. (That's not particularly useful information.) The food? Absolutely incredible. At this point, we had spend double the time we wanted here so we scarfed down our food and cashed out. I would have rather been warned about the patio and suggested ordering something to-go over being told (after an hour) that they know there's an issue with the patio being exposed in direct sunlight during the middle of the day. I want to say that it was worth it, but our service and experience really disappointed me.
