There are a lot of parking garages nearby but I would recommend the Bethesda Elm Street Garage on 4910 Elm St, it was $5 for 3 hours and then it's free after that. Very close to Salsa with Silvia. You can't park outside of the building so be aware of that, not too sure about the other street parking. I would def do it again and I highly recommend! The staff that ran the bar and the speed dating were super sweet and polite. Overall a great time!

The wines weren't anything special if you're a wine snob like I am but the lesson was the reason we were there. Mario, the instructor, was fun and engaging. Sylvia joined him for partner work to show us how to do some of the steps. Despite being the owner, she allowed Mario to really shine and lead the lesson while she stood silently by his side unless there were specific questions directed to her as the follow. I do wish the follow gave a bit more instruction. I've done several swing dance lessons before and that's always how they go - the lead (typically male) goes over the steps and the lead, and then the follow instructor tells and shows the follows what to do. Instead, Mario explained the steps for lead and follow which made it a bit tricker for people with two left feet like me to follow along. Despite that, we had a blast and are so glad we went and got out of our comfort zones. We hope to be back for more lessons! Singles - Salsa with Sylvia hosts speed date nights! Each day she came home with a giant smile and an assortment of treats that ranged from savory (chicken pot pie, cheddar chive biscuits, jalapeno popper lollipops) to sweet (whoopie pies, so many different flavors of cupcakes, ginger snaps, elephant ears, and more). This was my first experience with a Fairfax County Rec Camp and I was pleased with how well run it was despite the limitations of being held in a community room setting. I asked my daughter how they were able to separate the classroom for each recipe and she mentioned it was very organized and every day she got to try out new skills like chopping (her only complaint -- she wishes they had real knives instead of the safety ones), whisking, measuring, and even washing dishes (she would NEVER at home). The staff while young, was friendly and upbeat and remembered my daughter's name by the second day. They paid attention to allergies, and even pulled me aside to let me know how well she was doing in the class since they knew she gets nervous in new spaces. Would definitely attend a class in the future (or even consider a birthday party at their physical location).

I liked that I did not have to purchase any supplies for this class. Now keep in mind you only come with what you brought; no brushes, paper, or paints were given away at the end. We had a small group and started off practicing watercolor techniques the first day and then jumped into small simple projects; still life, landscape, and abstract watercolors. As a beginner, I was in class with people who were professional artists who took the class as a hobby. I would have preferred to be in a class with newbies like me, so I could spend more time learning technique. But all and all I worked at my own pace and did not allow myself to be distracted by the years of experience of others. Our instructor Tye was kind, encouraging, and fun to work with. I would take another course here, they have plenty to choose from ceramics, printmaking, even a soap making course, and much more. Looking to be creative and meet some interesting people on a random weeknight, this might be your jam.

Their entire program is built on the backs of the overworked and under cared for horses in their barn. Plus their therapeutic riding program is non existent and the idea that this organization does good for the world is just untrue. They take donations claiming to better the care for the horses and fix the facility, and then use the most minimal amount of money for the actual horses. Since they took over the horse center, they have done almost nothing besides block off the entrance to a national park trail and kick the public out. They claimed they would redo the entire facility and have taken donations for it and done next to nothing. Plus, they don't actually care about their students and will put them on unsafe, unsound, and ill fitting horses just to cram more people into a lesson. Also, just for good measure they have nothing against using 30+ year old horses in their program. Their entirely prioritize profit over everything else. Go anywhere else to see horses in or around DC
