WBTV went onto the air in 1949 which made it the very first television station in the Carolinas and the 13th station in the United States. WBTV is an an affiliate of CBS and so they have all the CBS television shows. For news, it's mostly been Norah O'Donnell when she's not on break. I'll miss her when she steps away from the anchor desk. WBTV does broadcast some of the CBS programming including Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage that took over for Young Sheldon and Blue Bloods for Tom Selleck's moustache. I don't watch football or baseball so I skip over those when CBS starts with the sports programming. [Review 2554 of 2024 - 4006 in North Carolina - 23565 overall]

His vlogs are easy to understand and digest, he is absolutely not sensationalist and when he's been wrong about the weather, he explains where he missed and how it happened. Habit I guess sometimes in a Hotel room at a friends House in a terminal or on the phone. In saying this I gauge all other Local Television News channels by WSOC-TV in Charlotte. This gauge is simple things like 1 ) Do the anchors know how to read?I mean I have sat at the anchor chair at CNN twice and read the prompter its not a difficult task but, one that needs to get accustom to .Do the anchors try and put to much arm movements and or facial expressions making the broadcast seem very fake? 2) Camera work are they some where they are or are not supposed to be?And when they switch from local to national is it seamless? And how many of those " Hey the camera should be on the person talking moments" 3) Reporters that actually report and ones that know just a little about what is going on at their location ok do a little home work. 4) Report stories that matter not Ms Smith left her gas cap at the c-store and 3 weeks later when she remember it someone " she guesses stole it 5) Give back to something for the area that people see you " Tools for schools" " Coats for kids" just to name a few. Show some sort of emotion about the story not a fake tear in your eye.... Well, this is my scale to gauge all news check out other channels . I mean how many bleach blonds does it take to read a " Q" card. Even the positioning of their legs tells you they are trying to get a audience HOW?. Sometimes, though, their antics become the focus of the program, and not the news or the commentary. I go back and forth. It's kind of like a train wreck, though, in that I can't stop watching. You may have seen it while channel surfing if you have Time Warner Cable (if you don't then you don't get it) and probably saw some lunatic preaching so you kept moving right along. Next time you're gonna sit in front of your TV check out channel 21 because sometimes they have some really cool, interesting and, best of all, local shows with a wide range of interests. Some of the cooler shows I've seen here are Z-axis, Crazy Late with Johnny Millwater and Scotty's Drive-In Theater. But there are quite a few other diamond sin the rough out there, check out their schedule http://www.tvaccess21.com/froms/4th_quarter_2011.pdf. The best part is that for a small membership fee, $25, you can take some of their most involved TV production classes such as Basic Studio and Control Room. Other great opportunities to learn television production include Final Cut Pro X, Green Screen Lighting, Chroma Keying and Webcasting. CMPAC provides a great opportunity for Charlotte to display a wide range of opinions, voices and interests, unfortunately, the channel is mostly being overrun by religious programming.

When I'm traveling, I get really pissy when I get out of range...all NPR is good stuff, but I know when all the programs will be on my local one, and I'm familiar with all their voices. Their coverage of local issues is top-notch, like all the recent information on the bailouts, the Wachovia failure, and the impact on our local economy. I haven't found anywhere else to get this kind of detailed, nuanced information in the Charlotte media. Charlotte Talks is awesome. They also do a great job of covering local events. I hear more about what's coming up in the community from the little mentions in NPR than anywhere else on television, print, or online...and certainly more than other radio stations. That said, WFAE simply fails due to their inadequate fund raising efforts. They don't ever seem capable of reaching their funding goal and have to extend their efforts by several days. This week I see they have launched a new fund raising effort because they fell short for the year. Whoever is in charge of this should be looking for a new job, in another line of work. This would be unacceptable in any other business. I was a sustainable supporter until not long ago but let it drop because, as a retired mechanic, I was contributing what I could afford. Every fundraising season (2 weeks, 4 times a year, minimum) I would be barraged with phone calls pleading with me to contribute more. After telling them I could not afford more, they kept asking me for more, anyway. What part of no do you not understand? The best thing on WFAE is Mike Collins and Charlotte Talks. The rest I can get from other stations or the internet. So, goodbye WFAE. I wish you luck with your fund-raising efforts. Mike Collins, I'll miss you.
