I had my first visit at Fox and Jane in Aug and during the past 3.5 months Jenny has completely transformed my hair. On my first visit, Jenny started to plan my hair journey by asking me about both my hair goals AND my hair history. I really value the time Jenny takes to communicate and explain what I can expect and what my options are based on my history and goals. I have always wanted lighter hair but was always afraid of the potential damage of this process. Thankfully, Jenny always prioritized my hair health! It took us 3 sessions to get to my current goal of VERY light blonde and through it all, Jenny did what was needed to keep my hair long and strong. It felt easy to trust Jenny with my hair as she explained everything to me along the way. She's also very open to feedback so I was very comfortable letting her know when my color goals changed. She was very flexible and got me to my new goals. I absolutely love my new hair; there's so much depth and the colors of my hair blend so smoothly. I also really appreciate how seriously the salon takes COVID-19 protocols. They do not permit walk-ins and do not double book so there is never anyone waiting for a session in the salon. The chairs are well spaced out and they seem to plan it so that not all the chairs are occupied to maintain more than adequate social distancing. At arrival, customer temps are taken and we're instructed to wash our hands before taking a seat. Each chair is immediately wiped down after each service and masks are required while in the salon. I had a wonderful experience with Julia at this salon. We had a consultation first, and I explained what I was envisioning - purple highlights on my curly hair. A few weeks later I had my appointment, and Julia did a wonderful job! I was there for a couple of hours and Julia was very easy to talk to and obviously takes great pride in her work. She had to lighten pieces of my hair quite a bit to allow the purple to show and made sure to do it carefully and then do an Olaplex treatment. Prior to the color, Julia did a curly cut, which came out great. I'm going back in a couple of weeks for more grey coverage and more purple highlights! read more

Jenny rescued my hair!! I was new to the area and desperate to find a salon that would be able to fix what a mess my color had become thanks to a salon based in Jersey City. I had asked the colorist in Jersey City to lighten me up and within weeks my hair was orange. It was so embarrassing. I started researching salons in the Somerville area and found Jenny's Instagram. It was filled with gorgeous before and after photos and lots of informative captions. I booked an appointment immediately. Upon arriving, the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. They took every safety precaution and each area was cleaned and disinfected between clients. I shared my "hair journey" with Jenny who listened attentively and mapped out her recommended plan. She was so patient and so communicative. I could tell she wanted the process to be transparent in terms of what she would be doing to correct the color, as well as what the costs would be. I felt such relief and have never felt so comfortable in someone's chair. Jenny worked her tail off to get my hair back to the color I was looking for without sacrificing the health of my hair (or my wallet)! I was there for hours and was able to observe each client come in to receive the same level of service- the stylists are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and talented. I booked a dual technique and received the most beautiful blonde balayage (with root shadow and $$ pieces, too!). I was there 2 weeks ago and was pleased with my haircut, though it did take quite a while (90 min); fortunately I didn't get a packing ticket. The salon was also not open when I arrived for my 10 am appointment- apparently someone forgot the keys to open the salon in time for their 10 am opening. The stylist did kindly give me a heads up. There was also a $3 "business service charge" on the receipt which was emailed to me that added was to my $80 haircut. I wasn't informed of this fee and what it was for. I booked a partial hi-light appointment 3 weeks ago (earliest I could get in) and confirmed earlier this week as requested via text. I was in the salon (first time for a haircut) on Dec. 13th and discussed the highlighting appointment with the stylist and generally what I thought I would like done. I mentioned I last had them in early Sept and that I felt they just needed brightening up. I have dark blonde hair and have been told my hair picks up highlights readily. She did not mention anything else was needed for the highlighting appointment. Got a text from my stylist less than 24 hours before my appointment: "Just reaching out to get on the same page before your appointment tomorrow. Please send photos of your hair in natural indirect lighting as well as a inspiration photos and a brief hair history(permanent color, highlights, perms, keratin treatments, hard water, etc.)." I was out of town for the Holidays and busy with family obligations and so hadn't gotten a chance to respond. I've been having my hair highlighted for probably 30 or so years and never had this level of info requested and it be required in order to have my appointment honored by the stylist. Typically, the stylist and I discuss briefly at the appointment what I am looking for before they get started. I'll also usually show a few photos of people whose highlights I like. The stylist said at the appointment for my haircut on 12/13 that might highlights were in good shape and just needed a touch up. The stylist texted me this morning to say she "very sick" and was leaving early and tried to reschedule for tomorrow. I find it hard to believe one would miraculously recover in a day from being that sick and suspect she refused to honor my appointment because I hadn't provided all of the info requested via her text yesterday. I felt the tone in one of the text replies was rude, so when I wrapped up my family activities immediately called to cancel (when it was really that the stylist would not honor my appointment today). Fortunately I was advised that I would not be charged the 50% cancellation fee. I feel for a stylist to cancel an appointment 6 hours before which has been booked for 3 weeks is really unprofessional. And if that level of info is needed to honor the appointment- ask for it when the appointment is made, when confirmed, and/or when the customer is there for another appointment, and not less than 24 hours before. I've never had a stylist behave this unprofessionally and would never recommend this salon. And I've now wasted 3 weeks waiting for an appointment that wasn't honored and it likely be some time until I can get in somewhere else. Not a respectful way to treat any customer. read more

I was very hesitant about switching stylists from the same I've been seeing for 10 years at another salon but needed to find an option closer to where we live now. I'm so glad I went with Alyssa. She did everything to make me comfortable, especially being that I was pregnant and coloring my hair. I really appreciated her constant communication - every step of the way she explained what she was about to do and asked me if that would be ok, rather than assuming. And she took her time to pay attention to detail and really make me feel valued. I've had two appointments so far and I can't see myself going anywhere else at this point! The ambiance of the salon and the skills of the stylists are unmatched. Video consultation: I made an appointment online for a video consultation to learn more about their extension services. Jenny called me at the scheduled time and I felt that she really took the time to listen. I loved that she was upfront about the costs and explained the breakdown for both the initial extension installation and maintenance. During the call, I felt confident she understood what my hair goals were. I immediately scheduled an appointment. First appointment (extensions and color): From the moment I walked into the salon, I felt comfortable and relaxed. The salon is immaculate and the decor is beautiful. I could tell a lot of thought went into every detail. One thing that really stood out to me is how nice and friendly everyone is! For those who are like me and are pretty stressed from work day to day, this atmosphere will serve as a calming respite. Jenny made sure to explain everything she was doing and asked for my input at every step. I was extremely pleased with how my hair turned out at the end of the appointment. I mean, look at my before and after pics- so much more volume now!! Second appointment (highlights): With the warmer weather fast approaching, I wanted to go lighter and add more dimension to my dark hair. I've seen the magical transformations Jenny has created on IG (@jennyjacome_njhair) with dark hair. I definitely felt more confident going into this appointment for color than at any other salon. I've been burned so many times in the past with orange-brassy streaky highlights. Jenny was honest with what we could accomplish during the appointment- and boy, did she deliver and more! I couldn't believe my eyes at the end results. My hair has never ever been this dreamy shade of ash blonde/brown with so much dimension before. The dual technique she utilizes really makes such a difference. To sum, Fox & Jane in Somerville is really wonderful! I would 100% recommend trying out this salon. I love Jenny for what she's done to my hair (pure magic) but you really can't go wrong with any stylist at Fox & Jane. They all seem super skilled and friendly. I hope this review helps others as much as the ones on here helped me. I have long, curly hair and I hadn't done any color to it in over 8 years. With my wedding coming up I really wanted to make a change. I went to a salon (not Fox & Jane) and explained what I wanted. I wanted something low maintenance, cool and that just added dimension. I understand warm tones are unavoidable but manageable with maintenance. Unfortunately the outcome did not end as I wanted. I also didn't find this salon at random, spent weeks trying to find the right person. Review after review, instagram after instagram and portfolio after portfolio. The placement didn't give me the dimension I was looking for nor did anything for my curls. The color was also way too light for me. I like to keep everything as natural as I can. Especially with my wedding coming up I was very nervous of not being able to get what I wanted. I decided to look for a salon near my job instead. I'm at it again, review after review, portfolio after portfolio, instagram after instagram, I finally found Jenny after multiple reviews with her work with brunettes. Not everyone wants blonde highlights or a heavy balayage and I feel like it's so hard to find brunette help! First, I knew from the phone consultation that I was in good hands. She went over every single detail and what to expect. She went over why and why not things happen to hair color and what to and not to do. She spoke about what I was about to ask before I even had the change to question. She even told me how much the visit was going to be. Which I don't think anyone should base not going somewhere because of pricing. Don't forget, you get what you pay for. You're not only paying for a service but the stylist's experience, time, tools etc. You're making an investment in yourself. I was so excited the day of my appointment. Everyone in the salon from the second I walked in were smiling and happy which just shows it's a good work environment. We touched base one more time now that she was able to see my current color in person. I put my full trust in her. I love how she described everything and made sure the foil placements were placed in a way that will accommodate my naturally curly hair. I couldn't be happier with my end result! Hi Jenny. I was recently at your salon in Somerville. I ended up with hair dye in my hair after my stylist told me she would be applying a clear gloss. I didn't make a fuss and I did pay for my appointment in full even tho I was very disappointed. Then she booked an appointment automatically for me to come back. I felt very pressured (similar to when you are at a car dealership). Anyways I canceled that appointment and revived a cancellation email confirmation that I sent to the salon to prove it was cancelled. However, the manager at the salon refuses to issue me a refund of 63 dollars since it wasn't cancelled earlier. I explained my situation in detail to her twice and she told me she will not refund me. I then asked her for your contact information and she never responded which is why this is my only way to contact you. I was pressured with that appointment being scheduled and I did cancel it. Therefore I shouldn't be charged 63 dollars. I did not authorize this charge. Can you please issue me a refund of the 63 dollars? read more

horrible costumer service. i did not get what i asked for. they overcharged me. i messaged the stylist asking if she could fix it before my vacation and she never answered me. then I emailed them and finally over a week later the owner emailed me back asking to call me I was on my vacation outside of the US so I could not accept calls but I gave her my number once I got back she did not call me instead she emailed me a reason on why she cannot get me in to fix my hair and why she could also not refund me. I emailed her back telling her that I did not receive what I asked for but I paid for what I was supposed to get and she has yet to email me back . at this point I'm not even mad about my hair anymore more so about their customer service and how apparently they don't care if their client is happy with their hair or not as long as they get your money. read more

I found Lauren on Instagram a year ago when I was looking for a new stylist and change. Lauren does a great job, listens to what I want and always gets my hair to look exactly like the photos I show her.
