Do not fall for the cheap prices . My boyfriend booked the rental car through expedía with our flight to Cancun. The car was for $24 per day as seen online. The staff member told my boyfriend he has to put down a non refundable $800 security deposit. We are using our own insurance, the car rental company wants to charge him $13,000 on his credit card for collateral. My boyfriend walked away and changed his mind about the rental, the Fox' s staff member told him how about $600 instead of $800. We both said no. The shuttle driver was nice enough to take us back to the airport. We got a rental through Hertz. Cost. About $300+ a week with unlimited miles and only $200 Security deposit. I booked a car through booking.com, when I arrived to pick up the car the sales people would not release the car without buying more insurance. I refused and they refused to give me the car I had paid for which was $149. I tried getting a refund from booking.com but I couldn't get through their horrible customer service. I would not recommend this company to anyone. The insurance Fox Car rental was pushing was $33 a day for the insurance alone, that's on top of the 149 I had already paid. I also wouldn't recommend using booking.com since it's a UK company it's a nightmare trying to get anyone on the phone and their automated service is an experience you won't forget. read more

I preplanned and fully paid for car rental before arriving on my birthday trip to cancun. I gave them my reservation details and the guy goes it's 486.00 total. I was a bit shocked since I already payed 86.00 for 3 days in full. He said he doesn't see it being paid for on his end. I wasn't sure if this was the moment to cry or laugh that I payed more for this beat up low grade Suzuki then I payed for bmw at my previous rental.. I decided to do the right thing and take video since I already felt as I was scammed on so many levels.. I wasn't going to let them charge me for their previous scratches on this 150 per day Suzuki.. once done taking all the pictures and documenting everything I started the car, when I started the car, this is when I was just done.. the car was empty and barely had the gas to drive off the lot.. I grabbed my things and headed back but then I realised how tired I was and I didn't want to deal with another transaction on my card and another possibility of a scam.. so I drove off to a gas station. The worst car rental experience! SKETCH to the max! When you reserve a car online for Mx, most places will include the mandatory liability insurance. So when I showed up, the chick tried to upsell me on the additional insurance (the $36,56, 80/day collision insurance). She tried to make it seem like it didn't come with the liability insurance so I asked if I could purchase my own third party insurance for liability and she said it came with liability. Then, I told her that I have collision/theft coverage with my credit card, she backed off a little bit. But then miraculously, the $36,56, 80/day insurance was now only $26/day. Then she tried to convince me that it would make sense to purchase their insurance rather than going through the credit card. I told her no. They put a $10,000 USD hold on my credit card. I'm fortunate enough to have this available but I couldn't imagine for someone else that didn't have this available to them. They would be S-O-L. They told me to do a video of the car - I've never been asked to do a video but I guess that's good practice anyway. read more

I am hoping someone see's this before renting. Initially the total for my rental cost were $46 and this included insurance through Travelocity. it will say that car is at terminal pick up but we still ended up having to take a shuttle to place. The car rental place is actually called EUROPECAR- there was no one where FOX or any signs; the person at desk was rude; so it is very hard finding the actual FOX shuttle. Once finally there it is a long line; The signs were confusing on which we go in or stay outside for help. The deposit is high so make sure you have over $2000 credit- and that you prepare yourself for extra insurance charge. If don't buy insurance through them it is a 10k deposit. Be aware that when you rent from Fox, they dump you onto EuropCar Mexico. I paid for a GPS system in the car, and there was none. Then to put it through on my credit card, they charged it, put it back on, but kept over $100 USD for a total of over $150 USD. When I complained Fox said they had nothing to do with it. I made sure to reserve through carrentals.com to get the liability insurance included in the rate since that where they usually try to get you, but Fox now insists that you leave a damage deposit AND provide a WRITTEN LETTER from your credit card company or insurance company stating that you are covered for the rest, (doesn't matter if the credit card terms and conditions say you are covered). Oh, or you can just take their insurance which costs double what the car rental itself costs. So my $18/day car rental (typical for mexico) became $54/day. Needless to say, I wasn't getting a letter on a Sunday so I told them to get stuffed and went next door to Budget which was $40/day including all insurance but at least they they weren't pulling a bait and switch. read more

Rather than waste my time being on the phone for 3 hours which i had to do to get a car released to me in costa rica, i chose to abandon ship and cancel my prepaid reservation. They still charged me 3 days for the cancellation and i had to pay $5 for the shuttle to get back to the airport. For a company owned by volkswagon i expected better but i guess it is what it is. Dealing with Fox rental car was the only blemish in our otherwise blast of a trip to Mexico. It started with being unable to find the shuttle. Had to ask aroind to find out eurocar and fox rental are the same in Cancun. Next we had to deal with suprise USD $ 33 per day insurance. if we didn't take that option, there was the mandatory VLF tax. It took about 1.5 hours from the getting a luggage to getting on the road with the car. Worst part of the expereince was return. We were slapped with $60 charge for 1 hr delay even thhough the contract said $16. Staff was unhelpful. They could not communicate or explain how the 16 became 60. Even after lengthy backand forth they said call the help line and that they can't do anything becuase it was the system.. the marginally cheaper price was not worth all that hassle.. WILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO RENT WITH FOX RENT A CAR. At least in Mexico. Stay away in a hurry and rent with someone else.. read more

First and foremost I would like to say that the workers at this location were very sketchy. I was quoted for one price and ended up paying $500 more than I was quoted for. I was given the option to purchase their insurance (although I had already purchased my own) or have a $14,0000 hold placed on my credit card. They did not have the car I initially chose so I was upgraded without my knowing to a more expensive vehicle. My recommendation is to go to a well known Rental company such as Hertz or Enterprise. Don't trust the low price advertisement of Europecar/Fox Rent a Car in Cancun Mexico. They are full of SHIT!!!!!. They attempted to trick a trickster and failed in their efforts tremendously. I am a native Angelino From Southern California and have experienced a whole lot of scams and deception throughout my lifetime. But this company won the award in deceptive scamming. From the beginning to the end of my rental experience, this company created many obstacles of deception to depart me from my hard earned finances in what I considered a luxury vacation of a lifetime. The challenge began with the pressured purchase of their insurance. I was told that I would have to pay the value of the car at $13,500 dollars unless I decided to purchase their full insurance. This meant, instead of the advertised $86 dollars a week for the vehicle, it would now cost me $389.00 a week and a security deposit of $1000. (Note the $389.00 was charged to my account immediately before I could even think about returning the vehicle.) After a few days of exploring and driving around Cancun, the vehicles check engine light appeared and I telephoned the 800 number with no one answering for 2 days. (By this time my only focus was on them retrieving their vehicle and return my remaining funds back to my credit card). Around the 3rd day, I finally contacted the company and they suggested that I exchange vehicles by a company employee bringing a car to the resort and allowing me to continue my good time journey without interruptions. (Little did I know this action was filled with hidden agendas of deception and corruption ) In the meantime, the driver brought the car to the resort and during the exchange something told me to video and document both the inside and outside of the old and new car as well as the gas &mileage displayed. I kept the new car and continued with my good time until the remaining day of my trip. On the final day of my trip, ( unknowingly) the company came up with a plan to attempt to keep my $1000 deposit by stating "I had an accident in their vehicle and pointing to a previously scratched mark on the current exchanged vehicle. I immediately showed them documentation that was emailed to me by their company during the prior exchange. This demonstrated a 0 balance and I showed them the video tape that I had taken during the exchange at the resort of both vehicles inside and out. After proving my case and protesting the unfairness of the accident implication. the attendant gave up his fight and stated " Lady you win". In conclusion, I have come to realize that people are deceitful and desperately wicked in all places near and far. I have learned to "Never put your complete trust in others no matter where you go". As we were walking away they offered us a way lower price somehow magically. When picking up our car there we're multiple people being charged for damages to their rentals and seemed very upset. This was very nerve wracking to have a vehicle 5 days worried of being charged for any small damages that could possibly be made while traveling in Mexico . When returning our rental we were not charged for anything additional thank God!... but there were others that were less fortunate that we witnessed again. Paid for the collision plan when booking trip but when I arrived at Fox rental at the Cancun Airport I was told it was not a "valid" insurance and that I would have to pay either a $50 or $80 per day insurance instead on top of the daily rate for the vehicle. First, the thief at the counter told me I had to leave a $13000 charge on my card. He was surprised when I told him that was no problem. Then he said I needed to pay a 20 rental car license fee per day. In all they wanted to go from $200 to about $800. I told them it was robbery. The guy was not fazed at all, and told me I was free to leave, which I did. Contemplating my options outside decided to walk over to Hertz, about 500' away. On the way to Hertz, there was another car rental company called either AeroFlex or Autoflex. Although I did not get the $200 rate, I was able to get $364 for 13 days. They did state it was very common for them to get Fox Car Rental Walkouts. I recommend them. They also told me they are associated with Avis. We had to find someone who was supposed to be holding a sign, and he was there just not holding the sign. We were picked up and taken to a parking lot with a trailer as an office and not very many cars. They proceeded to force us to get extra insurance or no car. The Expedia insurance doesn't cover anything. This rental ended up being over $700. Expedia shouldn't even have them as an option. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Remember you get what you pay for. Got a reservation thru Expedia. Arrived in Cancun Tuesday morning. There is no Fox representative or booth once you exit. I asked the rival car rental attendants and told me to wait for a Mex Shuttle Van. Waited about 30 minutes. Took me to the rental car place (which is pretty much walking distance). Waited in line for 5 minutes and left in the car pretty much in 20 minutes after arriving there. Prices are not what you expect from Expedia. I got a Kia Optima automatic transmission and it was like new. Paid pretty much 50 bucks a day for it with 100 deposit with insurance. 3 stars for false advertising the price on Expedia. Returned the car on a weekend with no hassle . When I peaked inside the check in office, there was a lot of people waiting inside. Maybe it's easier to arrive on a weekday and wait less time on a weekday compared to a weekend. Oh yeah I never got my $100 deposit back. read more

F This place so hard. First off, nobody tells you that you need to go to the MEX renal office who handles the cars for fox. And although the nice woman who checked us in was very nice and professional and didn't push insurance on us and just explained the Downpayment if we declined the insurance. The bull shit wait we had to endure to get our pile of shit car was the reason this place gets 1 star. 2 employees took about an hour to get cars for 3 people Including us. They just stood around and helped about 1 person every 20-30 minutes. When we FINALLY got our car. 5 minutes into the drive, a warning light for overheating came up. So the car is now at our hotel Just sitting useless to us and thinking about not even using it because i know dealing with these jokers will just be so annoying.
