BEWARE: as several other reviewers have pointed out, the ACE (seems like they now are and/or are operated by Movii) in Cancun are SCAMMERS. Had fueling and insurance scams happen to us, after we avoided their false damage scam. 1. They charge you "required" additional insurance even though the reservation specifically states the price includes the required insurance ("Third Party Liability is included in all rental rates") and after the long wait for their shuttle to take you to a location far from the airport, you're stuck paying hundreds of dollars more just to get a car. 2. They lie about how much gas was initially in the car and then charge you an exorbitant amount for the (small) difference, even though we returned the car with more gas than when we received it. We carefully took videos of the outside of the car to ensure we avoid them scamming us for fake damage on return, but didn't think to take a picture of the gas tank display since it's written on the rental agreement, only for them to completely disregard that (like the ignored the terms in their own reservations). Seems like this gas scam is their (new) way of scamming those who they can't scam for fake damage. They're also super rude and aggressive, threatening us when we tried to indicate on the sales documents that we were being coerced into signing and paying for their scam charges. read more

Great start to a vacay. After waiting for an hour and a half at the Cancun airport, the rental company Sixt car rental helped me call ACE. Initially they said would take them another 50 minutes to retrieve me at 2 kilometers away. Eventually, I and another family arrived at the ACE/Movii car rental place. I had already paid for the car rental upfront on Wisecars for a full 12 days in Cancun MX which included CDW & TP insurance. When I arrived Ace (aka Movii) wanted a $400 USD ransome for what they claimed was insurance on the car in Cancun. This was about identical to the base rate I'd already paid beforehand for the car in the US. There was an extended "discussion", but of course I needed the car to get to Carmen and it was already dark outside. ACE/Movii simply wouldn't let me take the car without paying this ransome amount and a $1000 deposit (the family before me paid some amount more than that). ACE/Movii isn't listed on Googlemaps in the correct location, making it another outrageous event finding the place on the way back. Now, you know why. read more

DO NOT rent a car from this place! It is all a huge scam. I made the grave mistake of using a third party (Priceline) to reserve, and i thought, fully pay for a car rental in Cancun June 2026. You think that you'll be doing business at the airport because its listed that way, even through Priceline. No, they put you in a van and drive you 10 minutes away from the airport so youre trapped. Because if you had another choice, you'd just leave and go to another rental place. Because next they tell you that you HAVE to buy their insurance. I told them I wanted liability only, and they STILL charged me for premium insurance ($50 per day) and a "refundable" deposit ($400). I ended up paying $735 for an Aveo for 12 days. When I returned the vehicle, I demanded that I pay only what I had agreed to and that I dispute their uncharges. There was another man returning his car at the same time as I and had the same complaint. These guys are crooks! We thought we had fully paid on Priceline, and the money we paid there didnt even show up as a deduction from what we were charged. We are 10 minutes from the airport and have to catch a flight. Thats how they get you, you just want to leave, and they know it. They blew smoke and said they couldn't authorize any refund only the guy above them and they would respond through email. Its been two weeks and no deposit OR upcharge refund. So, now Im telling my story on every review website so they cant do this to other people. read more

All of the out of country rental facilities charge outrageous fees, if you read all of the reviews you'll see that. This place is just a rental car place nothing to write home about. Dirty run down cars, agents with nasty attitudes for no reason, but they offer shuttle service LOL. My husband made this reservation through his Expedia account. Oh my GOD. First, you can't find the kiosk at the airport in Cancun because THERE IS NONE. You have to figure out that you call the "guy" and he comes to pick you up at the airport 25 minutes later. You dive 15 more minutes to a an abandoned highway strip mall. The guy tries to hard sell you an insurance package that you already purchased through your account (another 25 minutes). Then, make sure you can drive a stick because they charge MORE for an automatic. I would give this ZERO stars if I could or if they cared, but it must be a front for some other type of business. I really should have checked Yelp before booking here. Echoing all the other reviews here. In essence, they implement a form of "bait and switch." I had a confirmed car rental reservation, at a confirmed price. When I got there, the price was more than triple. They pointed to a terms and conditions clause that basically said that geographical exceptions apply, and that unspecified secondary fees can be added by them. However, I had booked it for that location specifically. It was confirmed. How could a "geographical exception" be applied when I specified all of the locations in advance? It's actually a scam, plain and simple. They shuttle you from the airport to their main rental office, so once they triple the price on you, you feel like you're stuck in a random location with no options. But here's what you do: walk outside. There are usually guys hanging out ready to poach frustrated customers from them. They can bring you to competitors' rental places. That's what I did, and it worked out swimmingly. The airport also has good deals. When you walk in, go to the travel desk. They can hook you up. read more

I have been stuck here in Cancun for about over 2 hours now with no help and we are stranded with Israel from Ace on the phone and on hold with no response back. We need help as soon as possible but that means nothing to them. While with a baby and no mercy on us. So their recommendation is to leave the family behind and travel with a tow truck back to the airport for them to give us a new or Better working car. Zero star. One star is one too generous. After reading other reviews I realized all the rental companies in Cancun are similar: scam, forced you to buy insurance, high deposit fee. But strange thing is that Trip Advisor doesn't have car rental reviews available??? In our case, we waited 2 hours to get a SUV and the one we got was not the same as what I booked directly on the website. It was a smaller SUV. Stay away!!!!!! Pay the extra few dollars to go with one of the name brands. They will attempt to rip you off left right and center, without remorse, and will take so long that at the end you will cave. Where to begin: 1. The agent told me I had to buy insurance I did not need to buy. When I refused they first told me they would have to put $2500 on my CC as deposit. I said okay, then they refused to rent me the car unless I got the insurance. Had to get manager to okay it. 2. Took 2.5 hours to get a car. 3. They did not have the SUV I paid for, so they gave me a standard car ("take it or leave it.") 4. Car fuel was empty upon receipt of car. I ended up giving the car rental 3/8 of a tank for the pleasure of this horrible experience. 5. Ruined my vacation as I became too scared to drive the car anywhere out of fear they were going to make more fake claims and try and make up damage to steal my deposit. I had the worst rental experience EVER at Cancun airport. I rented with Dollar at Cancun Airport for 2 weeks in May 2017 for $8 USD total without issues. I rented from ACE for 2 weeks at Cancun Airport Apr. 28 2018. NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN!! Took 2 hrs after clearing customs to get a car. Shuttle to rental very slow to pick up. LONG lines for rental (run by MEX rental and includes FOX too). Long line/wait for them to go get car. Car had 2 hubcaps missing, dents and scratches everywhere and had less than 1/2 tank gas. It was like a rent a wreck. And their deposit is 4x what other companies charge $2,000. Never again!! read more

If I could give this car rental -50 stars I would. My elderly parents were traveling to Cancun, and as convenient as public transportation is in this part of Mexico, I felt safer having them in a rental. I made their reservation with Ace, and printed off my parents Proof of insurance for their Amex Platinum Card(as they have 5 vehicles here at home and have international car rental coverage through AX and their private car insurance company) to give to the car rental counter. Their $50 5 day economy car rental ended up costing them $230. The car rental customer service charged them almost $40 per day for insurance coverage, and told them that they would not accept the proof of international car rental insurance coverage from AX or their private insurance carrier and placed a $1,000 hold on their credit card to boot. Insurance on a rental car is not mandatory, and optional and they totally took advantage of my parents that are in their 80's. There are plenty of scammers on the streets to watch out for there, a seemingly reputable car rental company should not have had to take advantage of elderly tourist to make a buck. I will never utilize this company again, and will do everything in my power to make sure none of their circle of friends or mine utilize this company or any of their affiliated companies AGAIN!!!. They tell you that it's $2,500 for the credit card hold without insurance. Fine, but they charged the card for $2,606. Then they charged my card twice for $61.06, the correct way should've been one charge for $58.06, so there's that. I decided not to go with their service. They have refunded one $61.06 leaving me on the hook for the second charge of $61.06. Before I left, the "manager" was unable to cancel the credit card hold and took a picture of my credit card... he took his phone out, snapped some photos of my credit card and handed me my card back, so shady much? Bottom line: they might scam you too! Luckily I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve so they have my back. Otherwise I'd be very scared right now at Playa Del Carmen. Reading these reviews and it seems like Bait and Switch is a common theme. This also happened to me. I reserved the car for a super low rate (including liability insurance), which I thought we just got lucky (happens occasionally with car rentals in the US). When we showed up, we waited in line for 1 hour. Line wasn't even moving. FINALLY someone tells us they are "out of cars." And first priority will go to pre-paid customers. So basically, they have zero respect for the reservation process. It is just a way for them to get people in their doors. We scrambled looking for cars at the other car rental companies. Do not rent at Ace! This place is 5mins drive to airport, yet we waited 35 mins at the airport for the shuttle to take us here. Another 40 mins to get our car paper work sorted. We paid 3 times more for a larger car., but were told the largest car is a two door. The story doesn't end here. You still have to wait for the car to arrive. God knows how long. We are still waiting. For future Travellers, don't rent a car in Mexico, all the other car rental has bad reviews. Every customer is pissed here. read more

BAIT and SWITCH and I wasn't the only enraged person there. I made my reservation directly though the Ace Rent a Car website, not FOX, but when we arrived, we were taken to the Fox facility. I called the Ace 1-800# and they confirmed that Fox was the correct location. This was not mentioned on any of my prior communications with Ace. I had really poor experiences with Fox previously and would not have made the reservation had I known this. I had done my research fully on the basic liability requirements and rates so that I would not be shocked or taken advantage of. I had even called Ace directly to confirm the requirements and rates. They stated that the basic liability coverage was included in my rate. Once at the rental desk, the agent stated that in Quintana Roo ( where Cancun is located ), they require higher liability coverage than the national requirement, that was an extra $29.95 per day! AND he was going to charge me for a full extra day, because I was going to return the car 2 hours past the last 24 hour window. ( I picked up at 11AM, was returning at 1PM ) This inflated the total rental rate by twice the amount of the reservation. I stated that I was going to National, and the agent gave me back my card, and acted like he didn't care. Once I walked outside, another employee asked me if there was a problem, where he then informed me that Ace was like a re-seller and that they did not have any control over what they stated was included in the rate. I think that is B.S. He then however, started negotiating with me on a lower rate for the same class car. I had already called National and confirmed their rate, with full SLI. Fox ended up beating them by about $50, so I proceeded with the rental. In hindsight.... I should have just went to National, so as to not give this immoral company my business. I reserved a mini van at the Cancun airport for my vacation and when I arrive to their office they told me that they did not have a mini van available for me. They offered me a compact car instead. We were "helped" by Adiel Mendoza. Renting a car from another country is worrisome as is. So we did plenty of research and read as much as possible to educate ourselves. We booked the car months in advance through a big agency (Orbits.com). We got to Cancun (my wife, my 1 year old infant, and myself) at 10am. We got in the shuttle and got to the Ace office. we didn't receive our car until 2pm. Here is what happened: We waited on line, we only had two people ahead of us but it took about 30 minutes for us to get called and that is reasonable. When it was our turn to be helped, I gave the guy, Adiel, the reservation number and the documents that he requested. He started asking my about insurance I told him that the car already has insurance and the credit card i'm paying with has extra insurance he said that wasn't allowed and by law I have to purchase his extra insurance (that is a lie) I said no, that I'm not legally required to buy his insurance. He then said "fine, but you have to leave a large deposit" I said sure. He said the deposit will be $2,500 I said no problem. He said okay the total will be $2,500 for the deposit and $340 for the two week rental. I said no it is $269 (that was the amount on the reservation that I booked months in advance) he said no that amount doesn't include taxes and fees. I looked at the email and it says "total price due at pick up $269, INCLUDING ALL TAXES AND FEES". I showed him the email and he said that can't be correct and that I have to contact Orbits, and proceeded to call the person behind me. I said I don't have service and he didn't care. We were stranded in an office in a different country after making a reservation months in advance. I did not even ask for anything extra, I asked to pay the price that I was promised online, come to find out, it was just to get me through the door. Finally, was able to call Orbits on the phone (with my wife's phone) and Orbits was very confused by this whole ordeal and asked to speak to the rep, I tried handing him the phone but he said " I can't talk to them on the phone " I said so why did you have me call them? you don't want to honor the reservation and you don't want to solve the issue. Next a "manager" walked in (Adiel filled him in, in Spanish) then i handed him the phone. He (the manager) asked Adiel how much the price is, and he responded $296 then the manager told Orbits the reason it's $296 and not $269 is because there is a 16% airport fee. Here are some more red flags, how did the price go from $340 to $296? and 16% of %269 is NOT $296. we were being robbed and punished because Adiel was too butt hurt he couldn't make any extra money off me. Finally, Orbits got sick of dealing with them on the phone and said to me to pay the $296 and that they would refund the rest to my account. Because they felt bad that our family were so disrespected and that we had a hungry, crying infant with us and luggage. so they took $2700 for deposit and $322 for the car (They charged extra for currency exchange, freaking thieves). Then their "internet broke down" and we had to wait some more even with the agreed price. Finally, at 2 they are giving us a car, a Toyota Yaris after paying for a standard. I said HELL NO, and spoke to two other managers, and thirty minutes later we get the car we paid for. Adiel practically threatens us by saying "I know you are happy now you are not paying for insurance, but you never know, something could happen to to you on the road, or you get stopped by someone on the road you gona be sorry you didn't take the insurance, because you'll have to pay for the full price of the car" Then he said "so how much are you paying now? (trying to be a smart ass, meaning after four hours wasted how much will I end up paying in the end) I answered $269, because Orbits will refund 53 and I walked out. For the remainder of my trip I had to get up multiple times in the middle of the night to check on the car because I was afraid that he would send his friends to scratch the car or pop a tire (because he had our address). read more

Please, for the love of God, do NOT rent from here!!!! The go by ACE, Fox and MexCRental. You might think "oh, that's a pretty good price" when looking on Orbitz or whatever. When you arrive to Cancun, the nightmare begins. Holy crap what a nightmare! It took waiting 3 hours from the time we arrived to get our rental. And they screw the bejeezus out of you with the additional charge for some liability and still put a hefty hold on your credit card. I was ready to take the shuttle back to the airport and get on the next plane back to the US. It was certainly no way to begin a trip to Mexico. What ever you pay for the rental online, plan on double and triple that price once the screw you with the insurance. If I were to do it over again, first of all I'd go to Cozumel instead, but secondly, I'd take a transfer to the hotel from the airport and back again. Maybe rent a car downtown Playa for a couple of days. But when you are at the airport rental facility, they kind of have you over a barrel. You have been warned! read more
