Dr. Atai is amazing, if the rating was for him and his staff at the procedure location my rating would be 5 stars! However...I have called the nurse line for questions regarding prescription doses and potential conflicts. I've called 4 times and never received a response. With what I am billed for the procedures you would think they would take the time to answer the phone and my questions. George if you read this you should take action. You're an amazing doctor don't let your nursing staff drag you down by not responding to patients. With all due respect! read more

If I could give a negative review, I would!!!!! Reception was the worst. I walked in not knowing where to go, no signs to which office is what. I was presented with a sign saying LUNCH BE BACK 15 MIN.... but my appointment was in 5 min. so walked into the office and nobody was there. I waited 10 minutes before this extremely rude woman literally yelled loudly at me about being inside of the office. I told her I had an appointment and was not given any time to fill out paperwork. The doctor was not helpful. I waited for him to offer suggestions as to what he though may be wrong and nothing. I told him from my research what I thought was the issue. He immediately told me I needed a biopsy of my lower intestine. He sorta explained why while rushing me out of the room. I stood at the reception after he left looking at the back of a girl behind the desk playing FARMVILLE! on the office computer!!!! I had to say something before someone noticed I was standing there. So I came in for my biopsy which ended up being with a totally different doctor I never met before. I was extremely made about this and almost left. The nurse stuck the needle in my hand after I asked her to stick it in my arm. (I was 90 lbs, and knew it was hurt my bony hand) I had a bruise for over 3 weeks on my hand afterwards. The nurse who brought me into the procedure room was talking to me about her bikini waxes before I went under. YES, HER BIKINI WAXES! when I was about to get a camera down my body! In the end my results were inconclusive despite feeling the most sick I have ever been in my life. I basically diagnosed myself with celiac disease and soon after this biopsy stared a strict diet to feel better. I understand if you live near by your health insurance may only cover certain doctors but please DO NOT go here! read more

WARNING: Also known as Lakeview Digestive Disease and Liver Center. (changed names to deflect their reputation?) THIS IS A SHAMELESSLY GREED-DRIVEN PROCEDURE FACTORY that is dangerously inept, greedily-overbooked and managed by 'C'-level medical professionals. I was sent here for three different procedures and each was a worse experience than the last. Dr. Atia spend almost zero time conferring with me as a patient (and only while in the recovery room while drugged up). The 'assistant' who handled my intake process had a sloppy grasp of english and mangled the intake documentation - including some critical errors. The procedures I had (colonoscopy, endoscopic and endoscopic ultrasound) were poorly executed and poorly documented. For instance; My Primary Care Physician ordered the Endoscopic Ultrasound to determine whether I might have had a pancreas problem. One of the leading causes of pancreas inflammation are gall stones or gall bladder issues. Dr. Atia's $6000. EUS Procedure and the subsequent report from this EUS procedure doesn't even mention having looked at the gallbladder. This in itself was a dangerous oversight, if not criminal negligence. The EUS procedure is also considered a "IMAGING" procedure by the American Gastroenterology Association, yet Dr. Atia failed to provide any 'images' or 'imaging' records to the specialists following up on my case; stating that the images are "archived and can't be retrieved?" His office's administrative manager was downright insultingly belligerent when I pressed him for accurate reporting. Dr Atia's response to my communications with his administrator was "All you have to do is stop drinking and you don't have to worry." I have never 'drank' alcohol in my life -- period. So much for patient-centric healthcare, hung? Save yourself the time and frustration and find a competent GI Procedure Specialist, with the kind of ratings your health deserves. I was very happy with the service I received there. The staff was very friendly and professional. The facility was very clean and cheerful. I did have to wait longer than anticipated for my appointment, but it is understandable due to the types of procedures that are performed there. Dr. Atia was very good and had a consultation with me after my procedure to make sure I understood everything. I already received a follow up call from the tech that was involved to make sure I was satisfied with everything. I will definitely go back there. My overall experience was great! read more

I'm writing a review for the office on Broadway. Let me just start by saying that Dr. Atia is fantastic. I went in with a lot of questions about IBS after having been referred by my GP with some concerning symptoms. Dr. Atia answered all the questions in-depth, and then recommended a colonoscopy. I felt comfortable with him and came back for the procedure. The prep was easy, and the actual procedure was no problem. The nursing staff who assisted were all friendly, and even though I was really anxious they kept the room light with jokes and made sure I knew exactly what was happening. I've often met staff that can be rude or dismissive, and this was not that staff. Some people have referenced the wait time and the front office staff, so let me address those. Yes, I did wait an hour each time, but that had no impact on the result of my visits. The front office staff, while they can come off as brash, can be really helpful if you ask the right questions. Likely, they are just overworked and constantly fending off questions from annoyed people. These doctors are in high demand, and clearly don't want to schedule people months out like other specialists. I am a bit surprised that they don't have more than one bathroom, though, given the specialty. Anyway, I don't think you'll go wrong by coming here. Just give yourself a window of time and maybe take the afternoon off for your visit. read more

I've got Crohns disease and I went to Fox Glen complaining about being underweight, tired all the time, and in pain a lot. The doctor prescribed a multi-vitamin. Pal, I could have got that advice from someone at Whole Foods for free; I came here for DRUGS! Also, they switched doctors on me several times, I saw one doctor twice, then a new doctor once, then a third doctor -- each time it came as a surprise to me. None of them seemed too concerned that I didn't seem to be making any progress over the 6-8 months I saw them. "You're still 90 pounds (about 30-40 pounds less than I should be)? Hmmm... try a Flintstones chewable." This place is busted. read more

I've used Dr Atia for both of my procedures was completely satisfied with both of them. Nurses where kind and no problems administering my IV. Everything went smooth and Dr went over the pictures immediately after the procedure. Yes the wasn't a big fancy hospital but served it's purpose. They didn't try to gouge my insurance or myself with extra charges. I very satisfied with everything. read more

I am providing a detailed account of the bad experience that I had at the clinic on Broadway.   When I checked in, I was asked for a referral.  Thankfully, my primary care physician's office was open and they were able to fax over a referral.  I drove all the way from my office in Naperville in rush hour traffic to make my appointment on time.  Can you imagine if I was turned away for no referral?  They need to have the staff check for this before patients show up for their appointments.   I sat down on the living room leather sofa in the waiting room.  It was so low to the ground, I fell into it and bruised my back on the exposed wooden plank.  A chair opened up in the wall under the tv.  I tried that seat but the noise of the tv above my head was very irritating.  Besides all that good stuff, the wait.  I struggled to get here on time and I left my job early.  My appointment was for 4:45.  I didn't see the doctor until 6:00. Once I finally saw a trainee, at around 6:00, I was given an extensive examination, even though I just wanted an H. Pylori breath test done.  After answering a bunch of questions, same questions asked a couple times as well, I had to wait to see Dr. Atia. im sure he.is.billing the highest level visit to my insurance company. Dr. Atia came in and told me that the girl that does the breath tests was out of the office today, so I would have to go to the hospital lab for the test.  I was very frustrated and I spoke with the secretary.  She said that Dr. Atia was incorrect, she could do the test, but I needed to go to St. Joe's because the office will not get paid if I do test here.  I felt like I was lied to by the doctor. Dr. Atia came back to the front desk and I told him that I would just go to St. Joseph right after the appointment since I'm in the city and I don't want to come back.  He said, ok and handed me an order.  The secretary said it was too late to go because the PHO was closed and I wouldn't be able to get a referral.  So I told her that I would pay for the test out of pocket.  I asked how much the test is, and she said that she didn't know because the billers weren't around to provide that information.  Dr. Atia said 65.00 was a fair price, so I paid it with my credit card.  I was given the test on Tuesday, 7/29.  I called on Friday to get the results.  The nurse called back and said the results were not in yet.  I called again on Monday and Tuesday this week, and nobody called me back. read more

1) Nurses are nice, but not necessarily well qualified. The one who stuck my hand for an IV first couldn't find it & then when she switched spots, she jabbed the nerve to my pinky so hard it burned & was EXTREMELY painful. It's been over a week & the nerve to my pinky still tingles uncomfortably when I move my hand a certain way. 2) Always plan to run at least an hour past appointment time, regardless of whether it's a checkup or procedure. It also doesn't matter if your appointment is in the afternoon or not--my mother schedules her procedures for the first opening of the day & they still tell her that they're "running behind schedule". I personally have waited over an hour a half past my procedure time-- meaning I hadn't eaten in well over 9 1/2 hours by the start of the endoscopy. After the endoscopy, I began vomiting blood & the number listed to call for problems was never answered & I had to go to the ER. The most recent time I went (for EDG results) I once again waited for an hour & a half past my appointment time. read more

My primary care Dr. refer me to Dr. Atia. I went to the office on Broadway, myy appointment was at 2:15 and at 3:45 I was still waiting to see the doctor. I said to the receptionist that I had to go, that I could not wait longer and she said they are going to bill me anyway if I leave. I decided to leave even if they bill me because I can not trust someone who run his office in this way. Not to mention that the place is under construction. The waiting room is not confortable at all and the location is not very convenient. read more

This office is horrible! You will die before they get around to helping you. In the meantime, they will be collecting money from your insurance company for every visit. Wait time always at least an hour and a half and often two hours. They do not communicate with the insurance company at all. My son has been waiting for nearly a year for them to complete the paperwork for the prescription that he needs. He has a life threatening illness. It will not kill him today but it will kill him. I have to pick up my own lab work and reports for blood tests and physically take them to their office because they do not communicate electronically with my the place my son has to have his blood work done at. They refuse to call the lab to fax the results to them. When they do receive the information it sits somewhere in their office for months. They sent us for repeated blood tests because they didn't look for the results in their office. We are asked to make an appointment. When we arrive for the appointment the doctor asks how the medicine is working? WHAT MEDICINE? YOU HAVEN'T COMPLETED THE PAPERWORK SO THAT HE CAN GET THE MEDICINE. We are told to schedule another appointment in 2 weeks. Back we go for another two hour wait in two weeks. The doctor walks in and says, How is the medicine working? WHAT MEDICINE? YOU STILL HAVEN'T COMPLETED THE PAPERWORK SO THAT HE CAN GET THE MEDICINE. Because my sons symptoms changed and he couldn't eat, we were told to go for another test. The day before the test we received a call saying that they needed to call the insurance company because there was an issue and they would call us back. We received no further call. We were scheduled for a follow-up visit in two weeks after the test. We repeatedly called and left messages telling them that we did not have the test since it was cancelled by them; therefore there is no reason to come to the office. The day of the appointment we were called by the office to find out if we had copies of the test results. I reminded them that they canceled the test. This has been happening for a YEAR! When we confronted them they said it can take up to a year to get approved for the medicine. There are other alternatives to this medicine. I did my research and talked to his assistant who took notes on what we have been going through and my research on the other medications. When the Dr Atia walked in he asked, "How is the medicine working for you? WHAT MEDICINE? YOU HAVEN'T COMPLETED THE PAPERWORK SO THAT HE CAN GET THE MEDICINE. He called someone at Walgreens and told us it had been approved. We needed to have it filled at the Walmart special pharmacy. They are just waiting for us to call and give them a address where to send the drug. Just call this number. Come back in six weeks. I called the number from my cell phone while my son scheduled his next appointment. They said that the medicine was not approved. The office had failed to file the appeal paperwork and now we would need to start the process over. I went back into the office and tried to talk to the doctor. By this point I was in tears from just plain frustration and all the lies that they had told me. I was very angry. I told the doctor to talk to the insurance company (the number that he gave me to call) and clear this up. I got a very sarcastic grin. He called a nurse who ushered us into the basement office away from other people. She talked to the insurance company and they told her that the appeal was never filed. At this point, I wanted to get out of there but she said she was going to try to file the appeal immediately. She found out it needed to be faxed. She said that she couldn't do it. (Evidently using a fax machine is beyond a nurses knowledge base.) The girl who could fax it would be in tomorrow and she would send it and call me back. Well, what a surprise, she has yet to call and the day is almost over. USE THIS DOCTOR AT YOUR OWN RISK. read more

My rating here is based solely on the quality of the treatment I received. The office is oftentimes lacking in ways some of the other reviews have described. However, in terms of the medical treatment and advice I received, Dr. Atia was able to succeed where many had failed. It is true that the waits to see Dr. Atia can be very long and there is sometimes confusion at reception, especially when I was a newer patient. The level of professionalism and organization at his Barrington location is much better than the others - it is a night and day difference. That being said, these things seem trivial in light of the fact that Dr. Atia was able to successfully treat my ulcerative colitis, a condition that had stripped me of a great deal, including my ability to get out of bed or leave the house. This is saying a lot considering I was a healthy 30 year old up until then. Prior to seeing Dr Atia, I had been in the care of numerous other doctors, including one of the premier GI doctors from Northwestern. For four years my condition worsened until I was hospitalized and referred to Dr. Atia. While other doctors were recommending the full removal of my colon, he put me onto a course of drugs that very quickly turned things around. Today my condition is in full remission and has been for almost five years now. For me, having my life given back to me far outweighs the occasional inconvenience of an extended waiting room visit. read more

Well I have been very sick with crohn's disease. My crohn's started in 1998 and in 2001 I had a total colectomy. After my surgery I continued to get sick and in 2008 I was hospitalized at Good Shephard Hospital that's when I met Dr. Atia. Dr. Atia started treating me for my crohn's, I have seen great improvement in my disease. I have had 60 plus office visit 15 colonoscopies and endoscopies. Dr. Atia consults with me before and after every procedure, any test done at the hospital all results given to my primary doctor and myself within 24hr to 48hr depending on the test ordered. If you are looking for a doctor who is thorough than you have found the right doctor. All patients get thorough examination not just me so just be patient you won't be disappointed. I have been to universities to be examined with no luck. The care I receive from the doctors and the PA and staff at Dr. Atia's practice is above any care I have ever received. I am truly grateful to have found Dr.Atia. read more

I have been coming to Dr. Atia for 7 years. He has done nothing but take the best care of me any doctor ever has. His staff is extremely professional and always takes the time to take care care of me no matter how busy the office is. Dr. Atia is up to date on all GI procedures and is concerned for all his patients. You may have to wait a while to see Dr. Atia but it is because he has so many patients that want to see him and he wants to fit everyone in. His staff goes above and beyond to make the patients feel welcome and comfortable. If you want the best GI doctor in Chicago you need to go to Dr. Atia. read more

The procedure was OK but I was there for nearly 4 hours, when I had been told to plan on an hour or so. I had to stand at a counter and answer detailed personal medical questions in earshot of two patients in recovery who had no privacy. They called my husband to pick me up, then left him in the waiting room for more than an hour telling him I was not ready and telling me he wasn't there yet. Never again. read more

I left two messages for a nurse last week and was never called back even though it says they will return your call in 24 hours. I've had GI issues for almost 20 years and seen many doctors at top hospitals in Milwaukee and Chicago. Nothing compares to Dr Atia and his staff. For the past 5 years, he has exceeded my expectations with his level of care and treatment. Is he late most of the time? Sometimes....But he's worth every minute of my time when he is. You have to keep in mind the practice he's in. He's not a primary care doctor, he's a specialist. He does many procedures that diagnosis cancer and chronic diseases. If he is late, it's for a good reason, I promise. Good doctors are busy, have a high volume of patients and most of all, they show they care. Every single time I see him, he listens and focuses on me. This guy truly cares about what he does. read more

I don't known if doctors are good there, but all ladies at front desk needs to be fired. They don't have appointment system there. They will tell you your appointment is at 1 pm but when you get there it's first come first serve and you have to wait another 45-1 hour to go and see doctor. Very bad service. read more

I apologize for the long review but I have had many issues here.I was having some stomach issues so I was refereed to go to this office by my regular doctor. My father had gone here before to get a colonoscopy and said he hadn't had the bad experience with the staff. I went anyways so I could figure out what was going on with my body fast rather then waiting to be refereed to another doctor. I have had so many issues with this office that once I receive a diagnosis I will be moving to another doctor. On my first visit I arrived early for paperwork and sat and waited for almost an hour! No one let me know the doctor was running behind or apologized for the wait. So when I finally went in the nurse took my blood pressure and it was high from being a little irritated that I had to wait so long. She took notes about my health history as they usually do. Dr. Atia was great I have no problem with him at all. I had to come back for another visit to follow up with my endoscopy and colonoscopy. A few days before my appointment I received a text and email saying my appointment was for a different day other than what I schedules on my first visit. So I called the office to check and see what day they had me scheduled for. Now appointments with this office have to be scheduled in advanced because they get booked up so fast. So the office told me it was for another day that I didn't schedule it for because the day and time was when I was at work. So what probably happened is someone changed the day of my appointment without contacting me first and sending me an email hoping that would suffice. So I was irritated that I had to push my appointment out even further. When I came back for my second appointment I had a different nurse to take my vitals. Again my blood pressure was high because I have has trouble with the office already. She said that it looked I was a new client because none of my health history was in their system. I told her I had been here before and someone had already taken all my info. So I had to again give her all my information. Dr. Atia ordered another test for me to have done and I was told for it I would have 2 options of hospitals to go to and a nurse would go over it with me so I would be covered. I was waiting at the desk for the nurse and this woman came up acting very rude. She didn't introduce herself at all but handed me a piece of paper saying if the holder of the insurance didn't call and give the Name and number of the order for the test that it could cost me $5000 for the test. I did not want to pay the $5000 for blood work so I showed my Dad the sheet and said he needed to call our insurance and read off the code for these tests so it's approved. He was confused but called our insurance anyways. He explained the situation and the insurance said he didn't have to do anything that it was the nurses job to contact them to make sure the test was approved. So basically the nurse was trying to get me to do the work for her when it's her job! So the insurance company went back and forth with this nurse. The insurance had a hard time getting in contact with her because she would either be in procedures all day or she left for the day and so on. FINALLY they got a hold of her and I never heard back from anyone if the referral to get blood work went through. Along with that during my second visit they had taken other blood work and I needed a vaccine. I got it at my normal doctors office and the nurse at the gerontologist said I needed to get another in 1 month. When I was at my normal doctor they said I needed to come back in 6 months. So I made an appointment with my regular doctor just to make sure if I needed it that I would have it done and check on some referrals. Turns out that I didn't needed it and the nurse at the gastro told me wrong and I only needed it in 6 months. Ten I was talking to my doctor making sure I had all the referrals I needed and the one I had been waiting for to have the blood work done had been completed 12/19/14 (I saw my regular doctor 1/5/15) and no one called to let me know so I could have the blood work done!!!! That was so irritating! I called the next day because I wanted to make sure they had the blood work referral and I also had an appointment on Thursday for an 8 hour test. I called and they had the referral blood work. The referral for the test was cancelled she said! I was never notified that my referral was canceled. She told me they had also canceled my appointment. Again I was never notified. The woman on the phone told me that they have all patients for the test on a waiting list because the capsules for that test were not in and they didn't know when they would be in but they would call me when it was and set up the appointment. I was so frustrated that no one had contacted me for anything!!!! The woman on the phone never even apologized for the mix up. I have had so many issues with this office and I'm sure there will be more. read more

This is for the Chicago location on Broadway. I am honestly very disheartened by the care that I received from Dr. Lotsu. He was nice when I initially met him and seemed to want to understand what my issues were. He recommended an expensive procedure but I did it because I felt there were no options and I needed to get down to the root cause of the issues. I was told I would hear something in no more than 10 days but two weeks later I hadn't heard anything. I called the office to get my results (which they clearly had but didn't call to tell me) but they couldn't find a cause for my issues. At which point, the nurse asked if there was anything else I needed and wanted to end the call. I was appalled because they didn't find the issue but just wanted to dismiss me after one procedure. He gave no follow up instructions, no next steps, no new appointments, nothing. I don't understand why a doctor would be satisfied doing one procedure, not finding a solution, and then just wiping their hands of me. Very unprofessional. read more

I can't say that I am a fan of the whole office. I've seen three different doctors at the Barrington office. Dr. Atia might be excellent, but did not communicate with me at all. He had seen me before in the hospital, but in a followup visit did nothing but type up my problem into the computer and barely said a word. I saw Dr. Lotsu twice, once in Barrington and once in Chicago. He is very personable, but was unable to regulate my medication so that it worked efficiently. After these experiences I met Dr. Monica Sharma and she is knowledgeable and a delight. The medication that I had been taking for many months was still leaving me with severe problems, so she suggested that I try an older medication and gave me samples to try before I paid for a prescription. I had a follow-up in one month and she was very happy to see me smiling. When I said that she had found the answer she said that I had "made her day". I have never waited more than 20/30 minutes at my appointment, and the nurse that takes my vitals and updates information has always been very pleasant. read more

I am a continuing patient of Dr. Antwan Atia and his medical team and administrative staff. Since I've been treated by both doctors Atia of the Fox Glen Barrington facilty from February 2015 until the present, I am very confident that I am receiving the best care possible related to my nearly life long conditions of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Along with follow up consultations from procedures and the prescription of the Pentasa drug, I am feeling much better than when I had an emergency visit to the hospital last year (that ER visit was the 8th or 9th time in my adult life for my intestinal issues). Under the care of the Fox Glen Gastronenterology group, I firmly believe future ER visits will not happen and that I will continue to improve and enjoy the benefits of good health. My gratitude as always to Drs. Atia and his admin staff of Sandy, Cindy, Lisa and Elizabeth.
