There are bathrooms and changing rooms, but no concessions, so bring in any food and drinks you require. There are plenty of picnic tables and you can grill out here. The beach is fairly large for such a small park, so you'll be sure to find a place to lay down a towel and soak in the sun. There is a rather large floating raft not far from the beach that can accommodate at least 8 people, and many people prefer to swim out to it and jump off into the deeper water, rather than lay out on it. The rocks extend quite a few feet into the water from the beach, and I have learned that wearing water shoes or sandals while swimming is preferable to walking all wonky on the stones and hurting your feet and stubbing your toes as you exit the water. You may not collect the stones here, as they are protected, and as you exit the park, there is a sign and drop box to deposit any stray stones that may have "accidentally" found their way into your pockets. 5/2025

Geography was not my best subject, but I knew we weren't a coastal state. When locals say they're going to the beach what they really mean is the lake. While it's not the ocean, it's still beautiful and relaxing. When I headed to Door County in Wisconsin with some of my friends we were told by so many people that we had to check out School House Beach on Washington Island. They weren't kidding - the beach is beautiful. My favorite part was the actual "beach" - it's made of white, smooth stones. They were so smooth. I totally would have taken a few back with me, but you can actually be fined for it. Really, they have a sign posted warning you not to take any of the stones. We had such a great time there. If I lived closer I could totally see myself spending lots of time there reading a book.

No noise from other campers, although the railroad runs a couple hundred feet behind the site. You hear the train rumble by, but they don't blow the whistle. Because it is shaded there is no grass, so it can get muddy when it rains. I didn't care for the fire rings they have there. They are too tall, about twice the hight of most. You can't really see the fire in the pit. They don't have a grill grate either so you can't use them for cooking. This is a nice campground, but does have a few drawbacks.

Pioneer Trail Park is not a place for Glampers, but it's a great place to park your trailer or tent…read moreto unwind a bit, stop for the night, or use as a home base for fishing, paddling, or hiking in the area. The grounds and most notably the shower facilities were very clean. The staff was friendly, and I had no noisy neighbors. I camped in the primitive section, as I didn't need water or electricity at the site, though the sites in the more developed section had those. That section was much more full than the primitive area where I was. For my site I paid just 15$ a night, less than some state or national forest campgrounds that don't have showers or flushing loos. My camp overlooked a side channel of the Escanaba River. A large marsh dividing that channel from the main flow gave me concerns about mosquitos, but I saw very few. The tradeoff for this is some ambient noise. The highway is nearby, and there are some industrial facilities in the area from which you can hear some rumbling and clanking throughout the day. Escanaba seems to have a lot of train traffic, since I don't think I went 5 minutes without hearing a train whistle somewhere in the distance. There is actually a track running directly along the primitive camping section, though only a couple of short trains went by on it while I was there. Not a place for solitude and silence, though there are plenty of those available in the UP. If you want a few more amenities and proximity to some city pleasures, this is a great place to stay.

The views were just awesome, we took the ramp and then again the stairs. We spent about an hour admiring the views from this vantage point. Try it and you will love it. I am scared of heights and I enjoyed the visit here.

Door Bluff Headlands was an unexpected find during my visit to Door County. It's off the beaten…read morepath, with just a small turnaround/parking area, a portable toilet and some trails. The trails take you along the bluffs overlooking the water, and meander inland. There isn't signage and I'll admit that I ended up taking a bit longer of a hike that I planned on because I lost track of where I was. Because of it's location and amenities, you're not likely to encounter a lot of other people on your hike (but the ones I did were friendly). There was some fog on the day I visited, which gave the trail and view of the lake a mysterious air, and I joked that it looked like I'd found the edge of the map as the view just disappeared a short way out into the water. Per a handwritten sign on one of the trees, the park is also home to the highest point in Door County!

Rented a side by side or UTV(whatever you like to call it) this weekend at Island Adventure. We…read moretook the ferry over to Washington Island to check out all things on the island. We figured, let's do it in style! It was just us 2. We had a blast. No off roading of course and it only goes to 30 mph but what a cool way to check out Washington Island. We ended up with a four seater. We arrived early to our 11 AM reservation and they were kind enough to have us out 15 min early for our 2 hour rental! Sweet! They provided a map for a suggested route and we decided to follow it for the most part. All the roads are so rustic during October so you really can't go wrong and if you get lost, good thing is the island is only 36 square miles in diameter! You won't be lost for long. The customer service was friendly, informative and gave out great recommendations. They were prompt and our ride was clean/well maintained! I would use them again for sure if I come back to the island. Once you get off ferry, it straight ahead on the left- very easy to find. You could even walk there from the ferry if you aren't bringing your own vehicle on the island. They have a phone number to call and reserve your choice of "adventure" or they have a website.

This is a 2 hour cruise and a lot of information is shared about the history of the Edith Becker and the local waterways. Captain John loves what he does and it shows by how much he involves his guests with the sail. We were offered the chance to raise the sails and even take pictures at the wheel. This was an excellent trip and great value.
