This is the first time we've been able to go to this place and it was open. Usually, we go to the antique store next door. The inside was nicely decorated and had several little tables and a bathroom. The counter is small and there is also a display for the desserts. The food did look amazing and smelled great unfortunately being a person who can't eat gluten there was literally nothing I could eat here. The locals seemed to love it as it was hopping with folks.

A slam dunk, grand slam, triple crown, hat trick, GOAL, touch down, Game.Set.Match. Homemade bread. Stop right there and reflect on that for a minute. Yes, they are slinging out sandwiches lovingly assembled on HOMEMADE bread. My daughter shot me a photo of the chicken and dumplings she had made on a blustery day in Kansas last week, and I'd craved them ever since. Well, these did not disappoint. Clearly homemade. comfort food. When we saw the mile high coconut cream pie, we couldn't resist sharing a slice. In fact, we started off our meal with a couple of bites each of that! And it's all served with the last place around to offer affordable prices. Btw- lady behind me had a salad, and it also looked amazing. A little something for everybody. Attached to a fantastic antique mall. Fifties dinerish decor. Super friendly folks

    Great good and atmosphere!

I loved this cute little sandwich/soup/salad cafe in the Cedar Chest Antique Mall. I enjoyed a peach iced tea and a chicken salad sandwich on their delicious homemade bread. I wish they had kettle chips instead of lays chips, but it was such a great sandwich that the chips really don't matter! I can't recommend the almond tea because mine was too sweet, so I recommend getting the peach tea or unsweet instead. I'll be back to try the jalapeño pimento cheese and more chicken salad sandwich! That homemade bread is so yummy, they do sell it by the loaf, so I will be back for fresh bread! They also sell homemade jams and salsa. So excited to have new places to eat close to home!

First let me start by saying that I typically go out of my way to support small businesses. So,…read morewhen I saw Gus' Deli, with a 4.8 star rating, I knew I couldn't resist stopping in. (Tl:Dr at bottom) The restaurant itself is very charming. The service was done with a smile. The problem came when I was handed my bag to-go. It felt LIGHT. I rewound in my head to recall the price of my meal. $15.50. I said "there can't be a sandwich in this container. Somethings missing." To my surprise there was a sandwich inside the container. The smallest Reuben sandwich I've ever laid eyes upon. Astonished I asked the counter lady "is this the $15 version or is this a half order or something?" She called for the manager. The manager assured me that this was $15.50 worth of food because "there's chips and a pickle." The sandwich, while delicious, was a mess. It's a Reuben, to be expected. Do they give you napkins? Nope. They put a sticker on the Togo box though, which is charming but, a waste of their overhead. The chips were almost stale, but not quite. Obviously poured from a large bag arbitrarily into the Togo container. Nothing to note of the pickle. This was not a $15.50 meal. The place was empty, and now I know why. Rather than being seen as an alternative to a chain deli restaurant right down the street this place is viewed as a more expensive option. And in today's economy that's not a winning strategy. This business could learn something from the recent pricing scenario that Doritos went through. They raised prices, likely to keep their margin as high as possible while production costs rise, and instead of taking in the profits they saw consumers leave their chips on the shelf in search of cheaper options. Are they still the best flavored chips on the market, arguable but likely. But what they did after the backlash was to lower prices and therefore gain volume sales, which makes the margin less relevant. This business is likely failing. No deli should be empty at 11am. That's lunch time, and deli sandwiches are a staple meal for lunch in America. This business will be gone, sadly, and in its place a 5 guys burgers will eventually take its place. At least they'll avoid putting a sticker on the Togo container and likely give you a napkin or two. The cost difference is probably staggering. Tl:Dr overpriced little sandwich.

We were seated immediately and our waters came promptly. We needed a bit of time to look over the menu and didn't feel rushed at all. We ordered the chicken tan tan dumplings, which came out quickly and were fabulous. I ordered a paitan ramen with pork belly and my husband got the spicy tan tan with a mix of ground beef and pork. I thought the pork belly was hard to eat the way it was served, but I also think it was a standard way to serve it so it was a me problem. The spicy tan tan is ONLY spicy because of the meat and our server said it was probably a 2/5 on spice, but you can spice up the broth more if you want. Overall, great experience. Clean location with lots of parking, good food with a variety on the menu, and great service. We'll be back!

We came in about 5:45 on Tuesday before New Years, and the place was basically bare. I was concerned. Went immediately to use the restroom, which was nostalgically decorated and clean as a whistle. The waitress was at the table taking to my husband when I got done, and my tea was already there, waiting for me, when I arrived. Now...the food: I got the chicken fried steak and hubby got fried catfish. Both were so clean and fresh I thought they'd been air fried! By the time the food arrived, dinner time must've hit, because as I write this from my table, the place is absolutely packed full of patrons. I didn't take a photo of my dinner, because I was busy enjoying it. However, I was able to get a quick snapshot of the husband's fish before he downed the last few bites. Seriously, this was the best southern comfort meal we've had in quite some time. We'll DEFINITELY make this a stop when we are passing through Hillsboro in the future! Seriously. Try them. You can thank me later, and ya might even run into Bubba while you're here!
