Love the decor of this rustic country restaurant. There are three dining areas one of which is more private if you were looking to reserve a room for a large party. The food is good and the place feels like an extension of grandmas kitchen. Pricing is decent but be sure to look at the prices for the specials, the prime rib pictured here was near $30 so a bit on the pricy side. I did t like the fried okra. It tasted like fish so recommend using separate fryers for seafood. Service was a nice pace and our server was kind. Plenty of parking and entrance is flat- easy for anyone with a walker or needing time to get in/out. Recommend a stop in. read more

Food is absolutely delicious here! My wife and daughter had club sandwiches with chips and I had the small fried catfish with tater salad and green beans. Stopped in a drive home after a weekend camping. Wanted a burger and this was one of the highest rated places in town. It was very busy on a Sunday after church but we were seated immediately and our drinks were brought quickly. It took about 10 minutes for them to take our order but they stopped by a couple of time to apologize for the delay. As I said, it was after church and it looked like several tables came in at once. Once we ordered our food was delivered quickly. We had standard cheese burgers and onion rings. The burgers were perfectly cooked and seasoned! The onion rings were hand cut and battered. Everything was delicious. Before leaving, we chatted with owner about the history of the building. She said almost everything is made homemade, meat is ground in house in for the burgers, and steaks are cut in house. Overall, this was a great stop. After many trips thru Gatesville, we never knew this was here. We will definitely be back. read more

My wife and I both got chicken fried chicken. It was pretty good. I couldn't tell if it was the gravy or the batter that tasted a little burned or something. Came into town to visit family and was taken on a tour of downtown and came to the Feed Mill for dinner. The Feed Mill does a great job making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, with warm and local decor. (Gave me lots of Cracker Barrel vibes, but hyper-local) We were immediately sat (amazing) and the menu prices were out of this world. Some of the sides were only $2.50 (omg!!!) and some of the were only $6?! And we're talking good food too. Lots of the reviews said this place had good southern home cooking but I'd argue it's actually EXCEPTIONAL southern home cooking. (For real it felt like I was in someone's granny's house) Some of the best grilled catfish and sautéed mushrooms I've ever had. Great restaurant and wonderful place to dine if in the area. read more

Loved the atmosphere. Super cute, very country, clean. We were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress came, nice not friendly. Got us our waters, took our order. We both ordered burgers. Hubby got the All American basic cheese burger with onion rings. I ordered the specialty burger, southwestern. I asked for the onions on the side. I got fries with mine. Took a while to get our food, a runner brought it. Table that came in after us got theirs before us. (Burger and veggie plate). My burger looked delicious, jalapeño bun, I only got one meat (wished I would have gotten the double, patty was on the thin side) it tasted good but wasn't very hot. My burger was very tasty, jalapeños grilled perfectly. Happily, I didn't mind the onions because they were completely cooked. The aioli was there but not enough flavor. Fries were good, home cut crispy, just not that hot. (Do you see the theme). Hubby said his burger was good but not enough meat (his was a single) and NOT that hot. The onion rings were COLD. Told the waitress, she said okay I'll get you some more. Comes back with a plate, says "put your burger on the plate", walks away with the onion rings. While she is there, I ask for hot sauce, for my fries. She comes back with the fresh batch of onion rings, meanwhile I never got hot sauce so I've eaten my fries without it. The onion rings are fresh and hot, not amazing but really good, would have been better with our food. Waitress asked if we needed anything else but didn't highlight dessert. Got the bill, laid on the table, walked away said she was the cashier. No "thank you". Came and got our money, no "thank you, have a nice day" or any kind of nicety...put the change on the table walked away. Older lady cleaning tables, thanked us and said come again as we left. Overall not a great experience. I'd try them again because I think we probably just had a waitress "off" day. Definitely get the double meat. read more

We got there at 12:55 PM - - they close at 2 PM on Tuesdays. Selena was our server, there were seven of us, and she was positively divine! I had brought six family members who had come down from Wisconsin for Thanksgiving, so it was a complete and total Texas experience for them. I am so glad that we stopped there. I intended to take pictures of the food, but we dug in so fast I completely forgot. All I can say is their grilled catfish is beyond the pale, and the fried dill pickles are the best I've had in my entire entire life - - and I am southern and have lived all over the world and the country. I had the small chicken fried steak and it took up over half the plate. The wife had a hamburger and fries and it was good as well. The service was very friendly, like you would expect in Texas town. We both ordered burgers and they were cooked to perfection! There's a great variety of food choices and appears to be a special each day. The best part....our food came out pretty quick. The service was beyond amazing. From the hostess who seated us to our waitress and anyone else we encountered, it was a very pleasant experience. Walking into the restaurant gave me a nostalgic vibes when entering. The foyer was filled with the feel of a museum, then we had to walk through another door which then had even more items you could look at or even purchase. There was even a gift shop, we were starving so we didn't go inside. The service was spot on from the time we entered to the time we left. It was also very speedy. I'm use to only have one set waitress coming to ask if everything was good or if we needed anything but almost anyone who walked by that worked there asked us those questions. 10/10 for the service. When it come to the food. We ordered the Fried Jalapeños for an appetizer. I must say I was in love. Some of the jalapeños were okay to deal with but sometimes you'll get those that will take your breathe away but that just kept me digging in for more. For entrees I ordered the Catfish Special which came with two sides. I ordered Mac n Cheese and Okra. I will say I hoping for more with my sides. The Mac n Cheese taste like they came straight from a box. The okra also taste like it came frozen BUT the Catfish was crisp to my liking. The crunch from it being fried was perfect. My friend ordered the Prime Rib Special which also came with two sides, Mac n Cheese and Tater Tots. If I didn't live so far from this restaurant I would definitely go back and try the other sides they had to offer. read more
