Hate to say this but I'm knocking off a start. Service and atmosphere has, sadly, gone downhill. When they first opened, and were in the truck, the service was on point. The owner was friendly and engaging. The last few times my family has been here, we weren't greeted. If anything, it felt like we were disturbing them. Just left after a late lunch. They missed the first thing we ordered and, when we kindly asked about it, we were told that they didn't hear it, even though he confirmed after I ordered it. No apology when we asked about it, and no apology when it was brought out. Again, it felt like we were disturbing or inconveniencing them. Service needs some improvement, for sure. Don't love that they charge for sauces. Not bad at fifty cents, but it's a tiny serving that isn't enough for a teriyaki box. Think at least one sauce should be included with the price of a teriyaki box. Especially at the price point. The space to eat feels dirty. There is garbage on the ground and weeds growing through the rocks. Just not a good vibe. Only knocking off a star because the food is still on point and delicious, and I really want them to do well. The branding still makes me smile. And Yaki is still worth the visit if you don't mind the not so great service and are going to do take out or don't mind the lacking atmosphere. Want them to do well. The food is fantastic, we love the branding, and Waco really needs a spot like this; they're one of the few places serving up unique and tasty Asian food that would give any great spot in a bigger city a run for their money. There just needs to be some updates and improvements in service and atmosphere.

Takeaway: looks cuter than it tastes, but a super fun vibe. If you're named yaki, make sure we can taste the teriyaki! Lol Food: 3 Gluten Free Options: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Cleanliness: 4 cleanliness: didn't use I had really high hopes bc this place looked so cute, and the food LOOKED good too, but unfortunately I was pretty disappointed when I took my first bite. I got the nug box which I think is their main thing - the nuggets were super salty and greasy and it was bit off putting. Also since their name is "yaki" from "teriyaki", I definitely would've expected to taste more teriyaki sauce, I almost couldn't taste it at all hahaha. I thought the slaw was solid, and the green Serrano sauce was reeeally good too. Spicy mayo was ok. Really fun restaurant idea, just wish my food was better! Drive up experience was super easy, food came fairly quick, server was very kind, and I loved all the colors. Maybe I just got a bad batch??

OMG . I pass this place everyday but was like screw it ima give it a try! Walked up and asked questions & for the chicken box w/ chili oil. Chicken has flavorful & smoky not too salty . I am not a Cole slaw person but it wasn't too mayo based it was perfect. Everything was amazing I would've enjoyed extra Yaki soss! Had the please of trying the nuggets they were amazing

As I looked for my post race meal, Yaki popped up, and after reading the other reviews I knew this was the place to go. Everything was DELICIOUS. First, everything is gluten free which is great for those with a gluten allergy and still great enough for those who do not have a gluten allergy. The rice was cooked perfectly. Definitely not a day old, perfectly soft but not mushy, and a great vessel for the rest of the meal. I get nervous about teriyaki sauce, even when gluten free, because it can be far too sweet and ruin the dish. The teriyaki here was great and perfectly balanced by the rest of the box. Smoked chicken had tons of flavor. Perfectly smoked and still very tender. Paired with their simple slaw, sesame seeds and a perfect amount of rice, this was a delicious bite. I added the spicy mayo sauce, and that kick was great. I loved the spicy green sauce; it had a swift kick to the tastebuds, and it was worth the heat! We got the brisket and pickles box as well, and I was pleasantly surprised how good the combo was and how much I enjoyed the chopped brisket; it wasn't super fatty or heavy, and it was a perfect amount of food for the price. Kiddo got the kids smoked chicken rice box, and he ate every bite plus some of our boxes! We paid maybe $33 before tip for all 3 boxes which was a steal to be honest. They opened during lockdown, and they're still going which is testament to how good their food is. Add a trendy, brightly colored building, clean, drive up and picnic tables if you want to eat outside the car, and some great tunes, and you'll be all set for lunch or dinner. Head here now and ENJOY!

    Order here!

This place I had terrific Asian rice bowls with in-house smoked meats (smoked salmon and pulled pork are baller). It also has fantastic fried chicken nuggets and fries. And it is all gluten free! You should check it out.

Only reason why the food had coloring in this photo was after I put some sauce to try to flavor it up.

The food had no flavor, I did not taste the teriyaki at all. I asked for extra teriyaki sauce and they gave me the teriyaki sauce that you cook with and not the sauce that you use to top off. That wasn't even my biggest issue. My biggest issue was the young white male who took our order. He was very condescending and rude to us. His tap machine wasn't working. I moved my phone around different ways and tried to tap it upside down and he even made the comment to let me know that he's never seen anybody try to tap their phone that way he continued to have issues with their tapping machine that I was trying to tell him about a software he could download trying to be helpful and he was very condescending towards me. He kept making rude comments under his breath. He kept rolling his eyes when we were ask him questions about the food, mind you we are not from Waco. We were just driving through. When he brought us our food, he was very cold towards us. I saw other white patrons come and they were very kind to them where we got the feeling that we were annoying them. I regretted leaving a tip honestly and even stopping here.

    Nug box. Very good!

Cute little drive through place. Our food was yummy, cooked fresh and minimum wait. And I'm thrilled it is all gluten free!! I ordered the Nug Box, (breaded chicken nuggets, fried rice, and slaw). Reasonably priced! Thank you.

This was delicious, but definitely not what we expected. It was like BBQ meets rice bowl. I had the chicken bowl. It was very flavorful smoked chicken (like from a BBQ restaurant without bBQ sauce) served over a toasted sesame rice & topped with slaw. The building was a Sonic style set up without ordering speakers. They had bright & beautiful murals. There is a small area with picnic tables, no indoor seating.

Always amazing! And reasonably priced. I suggest this place to anyone and everyone the smoked salmon is my all-time favorite. And anyone who I talk to there is always so nice.

Yall this place is GREAT! Food 10/10 service 10/10! Overall just a great experience. It's an old sonic building so they do have seating outside. I'm sure you can fit a dog in that area if you have one. Lots of stalls to choose from

Absolutely disgusting do not order from here.
    Sara F.

Do not order from this place. If they are opening up individual soda bottles and handing them to delivery service drivers who knows what they're putting in the drinks or their food. I just had a surgery and physically cannot drive and I have never had a restaurant hand my food or drink to a delivery driver open. Absolutely disgusting.

Our server was ok it really was the food that left a bad taste for me. I started with the signature cocktail a lavender lemon drop Martini only to have the server tell me they don't have all the ingredients to make one of their signature seasonal cocktail drinks. Appetizers we had the burrata which was probably the best thing I ate. My guest ordered the Bavette steak frites with Mac n cheese and I ordered the crispy chicken plate. Their fryer went down and we're not able to make the crispy chicken plate so I settled for their burger. My guest received her steak first and tried cutting into it. It was dry, rubbery and chewy. I had to wait 10 minutes for my burger to show up and when I received it the burger was dry overly salty and hard to eat. My fries were also overly seasoned and hard to enjoy. Definitely one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. On top of that they locked the gift shop door so you had to walk around to the front entrance if you were shopping in the gift shop. Service is a 3, food is 1 and experience a 1. 1 star

We started with the "Burning Bush" appetizer (crispy Brussel sprouts w/ lemon garlic aioli). YUM! They had just the right bite to them, and the glaze on them paired with the aioli was delicious! For our entrees we had the Golden Calf Burger w/ sweet potato fries and sriracha aioli and The Weight of Glory Sandwich w/ broccoli slaw. They were both incredibly flavorful and fresh! You can tell they locally source their ingredients and prepare them onsite. The portions are also plentiful, and we left with a takeout box. To round off lunch we tried the special mousse on the specials board (coffee flavored cheesecake mousse). It was so delightful we dug in before I could snap a pic. Just enough coffee flavor paired with chocolate sauce (not hersheys ). The big windows allow for a lot of natural light and lends to a welcoming and warm environment. We will for sure be back and bring others!
