And I love to see that this has since grown into a great business that focuses on making and celebrating good, beautiful things. So when I was in Shelby Park recently, I had to stop by. First, I love the fun door that greets visitors: "Here for awhile and then gone" is just above the peep hole. And inside is a great curation of locally handmade goods. T-shirts, home goods, art, games, accessories, bags ... it's a little bit of a lot. I ended up buying a locally designed print that says "I am a museum of everything I've loved." Can't wait to find a place for it! The woman who greeted me when I came in was also such a delight. She was warm and welcoming. And she showed me their fragrance collection, a focus of Misc. Goods Co. They have a half dozen fragrances available in several types of items: spray, roll-on, candles, soaps and more. I loved the way she described each and could see myself wearing several. If you have some time, definitely pop your head in here and take it all in. It's full of that creative Louisville energy that I love.

They have a unique blend of items ranging from candles, jewelry, books, clothing and soaps made in the shape of male/female genitalia. Walked in here with my wife and youngest daughter who is 19 months old. My daughter kept herself entertained by climbing on there bran bag chairs and looking at a tall free standing mirror in the shop. My wife mainly browsed the candles and jewelry. She ultimately got a scented camera that was moderately priced and it smells really good. We've been using it the last few days and it is strong and does well. The shop had a lot of proud African American merch Ranging from clothes to books to local art. So that was really cool to see. Overall cool and unique shop and on the day we went a certain portion of our purchase went to a charity so that was really nice. They had me manually enter my credit car number so they can make sure the charity got the portion. Everyone here was really nice and we are satisfied with our candle. The genitalia soap threw us off and kinda glad we had our youngest with us as we normally have all our daughters with us and that may been awkward. Maybe sometime or warning sign or located in a place that isn't on a table in the center of the merchandise would suffice. If they had one I did not see it. But other then that it would be a place I'd happily take my kids to check out and shop for items.

Pocket Change is a program of the nonprofit Change Today Change Tomorrow. It provides local, Black-owned businesses a storefront residency to gain exposure and increase their customer base, as well as hosting small business workshops and other pop-up rental space. Talking to some of the staff while I was there, I was impressed to hear how they want Pocket Change to be a hub of community outreach and support. Regarding the retail items, it had some racks in the front and on the sidewalk that were well stocked with items. I bought some tea from Sis Got Tea and also saw coffee from West Lou Coffee and nut and seed butters from Wells Made Co. It also had T-shirts, stickers, jewelry, lotion and more. It was fun to browse. If you're in the area, you should definitely stop by and find some new businesses to support.

Tulips and Juleps art and gift market at Slugger Field provided the perfect opportunity to do some spring-themed shopping and begin to look forward to the exciting Derby season. Held annually, and often in the atrium of Slugger Field, Tulips and Juleps is a spring and Derby themed market and celebration of the coming season. Sponsored by the Junior League of Louisville, this year's festival brought together more than 66 vendors for 3 days of shopping, and one evening of festivities with "Juleps after Dark" on Saturday. There was a large variety of vendors from both local shops -- Clayton and Crume, Julep Candle Company, Hungry Artist - Natasha Reed, and Scarlet and Olivia come to mind -- as well as those that had traveled, such as The Shine Project, Ace & Everett, and Nectar of the Vine. I walked away with several bags of fun goodies and some new local places to check out soon. Saturday evening is a part of the festival not to be missed. Vendors are still present for encore shopping, and a $20 donation gets you admission, hors d'oeuvres, and 2 drink tickets to enjoy some local libations. This year featured Ballotin whiskey's chocolate Mint Julep (a new favorite!) and wine from Old 502 Winery. I meandered around with several girlfriends to sip, shop, and savor the upcoming Derby season. With this year's festival over and done with, I'm already excited for next year and the great kickoff to spring that is Tulips and Juleps!
