I was rung up for a $25 per each item. I paid $163 which sounded insane for six towels to be monogrammed and a few days later they texted me saying that I needed to pay 20 more dollars if I wanted the 5 inch for both of those towels inevitably said no because paying close to $200 for towels in my eyes is insane. When I did the math after I picked them up, I was extremely angry at the fact that I was overcharged. I first called and talked to Katie herself, and she was extremely rude to me. Kept on cutting me off and not listening. It was definitely not a customer based business. I went back to go over with her. I was very kind. I said it was very cruddy that I was kept in the dark about the total and she broke down my whole thing and there is a 4% charge that gets added if you pay with card that was not disclosed to me there was just a little piece of paper in the corner of a table about it. And then there was nine dollars worth of tax. I told her that I was extremely frustrated that nothing like this was disclosed. It felt like I was paying for something with a lot of hidden fees. at the end of the conversation, I told her that many people would love to know about how you run your business in this isn't an OK way to run your business. She looked me dead in my face and told me like anybody would ever listen to a teenager. I was genuinely so frustrated and the owner of the store you can tell is money focused and not customer focused. As in the way she would love to rip off. It sounds like any of her customers just so she can make more money and it seems like for 16 years. She has been doing this.

If I could rate my experience a 0/5 I would…read more I passed by this store on a run and thought it looked cool so I decided to check it out. I browsed some neat looking skeins of yarn (I did think the price of $15 for enough sock yarn to knit a single adult sock was kinda steep, but the yarn was really pretty and I was in the mindset to spend money) before I noticed a clear cupboard with knitted items and accessories with tags. Since I noticed some were tagged I thought they were all for sale. I opened the doors and started looking through stuff. There was a cool scarf I was hoping to purchase which wasn't tagged, but I didn't realize that initially. I was then approached by two staff members who asked "if they could help me." I asked if anything in the case was for sale. I noticed that they were tense and that the vibes were kind of off, so I said that if they needed me to stop looking through the case I'd step away. They informed me nothing there was for sale and I said okay and stepped away. They told me that there would be items for sale later at a separate event, but I really didn't appreciate the experience as it was. Getting the feeling this place only welcomes a certain type of person and it wasn't me. Which was a bummer, because I was super ready to drop some money. This shop will probably do just fine without my cash but jeez. I don't mind that a shop has rules, but I do think they really could have made a better effort to interact with new customers and make a clearer distinction on which items were for sale and which weren't when I stepped in. The situation could have 100% been avoided and they could have provided a better experience. (Also, if knitted items aren't for sale, why is like 1/4 of the store's displayed items knitted pieces with tags? Super confusing for someone who's been there for the first time, and it's not encouraging to have my first conversation with staff be "those aren't for sale, come back on a weekend." )

I don't have to be a slave to reading the pattern since I now understand how brioche is built. I am now moving onto a sweater I've wanted to knit for years. I just finished my first class with Made Stitch, and I can't wait for my next project!…read more Signing up for a class was easy. The website lists what age the class is for (kids, teens, or adults), the project and what pattern will be used, and the level of difficulty. There are classes for people who have no sewing experience, up to confident sewists, and everything in between. With your registration, you get the pattern, fabric, thread, and any other materials needed to successfully complete the project. Just show up ready to learn and create! The studio is at the Mellwood Arts Center, easy to find and plenty of parking. It's also well marked once you get to Mellwood, so I had no problem finding the studio. Inside the studio is gorgeous, with a lot of natural light. There are 16 new sewing machines, with four ironing tables, two huge cutting tables, and everything a class needs to complete any sewing project. I took the skirt sewing class for adult advanced beginners- those who have basic sewing experience and have practiced within the last year. There were four students in the class, all who knew a little about sewing but wanted more guidance. The class was scheduled for two four-hour blocks, and we actually went over on time the 2nd day. This was the first time this class was offered, so it's hard to know how long things will take, so keep that in mind when looking at your schedule. We had everything we needed to take our measurements, trace and cut the pattern, and sew the skirt. Lyndsey explained everything we needed to do very clearly, and helped us when we had l questions. It was a great learning atmosphere, with music playing and questions and conversation. Even though I'd made a few garments before, I learned a ton of information about the process of garment sewing. The time and cost of the class was an amazing value, because learning the same amount of information and making as nice of a garment would've taken me hundreds of hours and probably hundreds more dollars in failed projects! After taking a class at Made Stitch, I feel excited about sewing, whereas on my own I'd sometimes get frustrated. Now I feel inspired to make my own project right away, so I can practice some of the very valuable information I learned! Like I said, I'll be keeping an eye out for my next class to take, and I'd recommend Made Stitch to anyone interested in sewing, of any age or skill level!

Ms. Lyndsey is patient and kind with her students and really encourages them to try their best. The projects they work on are cute but also functional; they practice with pillows, bags, and shirts they can actually wear. It makes the skill of sewing more approachable and practical rather than fanciful. My daughter enjoyed her first session so much, she can't wait to enroll again!
