Shopping in person at a toy store -- that used to be shopping gold for shopping experiences…read more Shopping online has pretty much taken that away, but I got that feeling of joy perusing toys again when I was recently back at Playthings, shopping for my daughter's birthday presents. Like on my first visit, I appreciate Playthings great selection of educational and fun toys. Their selection gets away from gimmicky action figures, Barbies, etc., and focuses more on thoughtful toys. For example, I noticed several Melissa & Doug toys. I took my time to browse a bit, and then one of the employees asked me if they could help. I mentioned that I was shopping for my soon-to-be 1-year-old daughter and her friend, who was also celebrating a birthday. The employee pointed out toys that I may not have considered otherwise. In particular, I bought a great magnet matching game and cuddly baby doll with a magnet pacifier. (Not sure why magnets became the theme, but here we are.) Playthings also gift wraps, which is such a nice touch that helped me cross an additional item off my to-do list. My son turns 4 in just a couple of weeks. I'll definitely be back to find something great for him!

Kathys shoppe is a local Lousiville store that sells hundreds of unique items. I actually did not…read moreencounter them at there storefront. They were setup at the buy local fair at water tower park in Louisville. Walking around with my wife and kids and this booth drew them in. They had some really cool items and my girls did some browsing and my oldest daughter actually got a pair of earrings. Upon checking in they do have a 20 percent yelp coupon which is always nice. I was skeptical if they would eat me use it being it was at a fair type setup. The worker at first was hesitant on its validity but when I showed him he accepted the coupon so that was cool. Overall it seems like a cool place and my daughter is a fan of her earrings. From the stuff they had the fair they are moderately priced. My daughters and wife want to eventually check out there store front so we can get the full shopping experience.

I was able to buy it online for local pick-up, and the icing on the cake -- I got it wrapped for free. Free wrapping is a service Playthings provides. I also want to commend Playthings on their great customer service. I ordered this right as the ice storm was starting, and they called me to see if I wanted to still pick up that day.
