They manipulated her into thinking that she was two sizes smaller than she really is (and always has been) to scam her out of paying an extra $1000 in alterations to let the dress out. To cover up their mistake of intentionally ordering the wrong size they had the audacity to ask my friend if SHES EXPECTING to somehow place the blame on her that the dress doesn't fit when they purposely ordered two sizes too small. Not only did they body shame her, they then threatened to hold onto the dress no matter what unless she paid for the specified alterations. This place should be ashamed of themselves for creating an environment that has the potential to convince someone as beautiful as my friend that they are anything less than that. They made it their mission to completely distort her reality of how she saw herself in her wedding dress at every appointment to the point of making her dread putting it on. Never give these people your business, they are absolutely cruel and it runs in their family.

I agreed to her high price point as I was lead to believe that the gowns were custom made by Raffaella in house alongside her "team". After months of poor communication and even spans of complete lack of communication for consecutive months unless initiated by me or my mom, I began to worry as my wedding day was approaching and there was still no evidence that a dress even existed, despite being told that it was in production. A month out from my wedding and still no dress, I began to panic and we reached out demanding answers on when the dress would finally be completed. It was then that she admitted that the "team" that she was referring to was actually a manufacturer in Asia where she apparently outsources her gown production to. At this point, she provided pictures of a dress somewhere on another continent that was nowhere close to being completed. She had to have the dress rushed to completion in order to have it arrive in her studio with just under a month until my wedding day. I could never fully appreciate the dress because the whole situation made me so upset. I felt robbed of that beautiful moment of trying on my dress for the first time in front of my mom and being in awe together. The manufacturers in Asia did a fine job considering their time crunch, but the bustle and finger loop that she attached herself during alterations both snapped off within 2 hours of wearing the dress. She recently reached out asking for pictures of my dress so that she could promote it for her business. I kindly explained that my experience was not one that I was comfortable with encouraging to other brides. She responded with by far the most unprofessional, rude, and out of touch text that completely lacked accountability for her shortcomings and misleadings, while still encouraging me to send her pictures. This review only exists because its become clear to me that she has not taken this experience as an opportunity to learn and grow as a business, and I would feel awful knowing that another woman would spend her time, emotional energy, and money only to be met with an unbelievably stressful situation.

I made it very clear how important this dress was to me, as I planned to wear it for my own wedding. It is now September 29th, just two weeks before my wedding, and the dress is unwearable. The bodice does not fit, and the skirt is not pleated, nor does it fall properly over the underskirt. Instead of restoring my grandmother's dress, Slubia left me with something I cannot wear on one of the most important days of my life. I don't know if the issue was lack of time, lack of skill, or lack of care, but the result is the same: I am left without my grandmother's dress two weeks before my wedding day. Despite the fact that I have a degree in graphic design my husband has a better design eye. He wasn't happy with the thank you cards at first. Once everything was straightened out they actually weren't bad cards, our guests and gift givers seemed pleased with them. I asked the owner if they had sizes over a size 10. The owner assured me that they have every dress in stock, in multiple sizes. That my full figured girl could try on anything in the store, and in her size. I explained how sensitive the situation is, that if she walks into a store filled with beautiful dresses, and picks a dress she wants to try on, and it's not her size, or even close to it, how that will shatter her self esteem. We were assured that won't be the case, that they carry size 0-18. We told her what time we were coming in as well. Pulling up, my daughter could not contain her excitement. The window had beautiful gowns. She walked in and immediately went to the pink dress section. (Only 1 of each style on the floor). We asked an attendant (as we were not greeted at all when we entered), to please grab the dress she selected in a size 13. She said that they do not carry each dress in sizes over a 6. But there may be some that are a 10. I asked to speak with the owner after watching the light drain from my daughter's face. I asked if I misunderstood what she stated over the phone, and she said that I hadn't. That coming into the store, we could see what they have and then order in her size. Also that dress orders are final sale. I told her that not allowing someone to try on a dress, and blindly buy a non refundable gown ($500.00 and up), is insane. And that I was upset she lied to me to get us into the store. That it's bad businesses and body shaming. That she had shattered my daughter's day, her self esteem, and made what should have been a beautiful and memorable experience the worst. She did not apologize. She shrugged. She walked over to my daughter's fitting room. Shouted in front of other mom's (with their daughters that could easily fit into all the gowns in the store, no problem), she's a 12 on top and a 14 on the bottom. Then snapped her gums and walked away. We left the store, my daughter in tears. No apology. No resolution. She just humiliated her. She carries beautiful gowns. But so do over 100 other dress stores on Long Island. Please do not support this cruel, body shaming, lying business owner. We are women who should be building one another up. But I do not condone wickedness. This store does not deserve your business. Sadly I had to choose a star. I wouldn't have even given 1.
