Awesome place to camp if you can find a spot. Most sites have electric hookup. Except the best sites (tent only) 36 & 38. 37 is a bit back Hot showers (quarters) nice beach. Can get really windy during the day.

What a beautiful place! Plenty of parking and areas to have a picnic. Wonderful trails for walking/running. You can explore around and walk all the way to the local restaurants /coffee shops. Pretty close to Ritz hotel. A lot of people close to the parking lot but if you walk a bit further, more likely you will be on your own. So peaceful and recharging. Overall, it's one of my favorite places!

Camp is set up. Relaxing weekend.

Weekend getaway We are from Sonoma county and thought we would venture camping at this location. We loved the Panoramic ocean views and lovely sunsets. Also enjoyed the Coastal Trails that pass through the park. Several walking and biking opportunities in either direction (with many inviting spots) to take in the views. Only negative not used to the crowds and everything it brings! Note: Dogs are not allowed on the this particular beach and never have been. However, just down a mile south -you will find --Poplar Beach, which is dog-friendly! Use this link to view other local dog friendly beaches we found. https://www.bringfido.com/attraction/beaches/city/half_moon_bay_ca_us/ We worked around the dog beach limitations at camp: walks and biking. We rode our bikes down the beautiful extensive stretch of bike trail along the coast. Luckily we brought our dog caddy -for when our pup got tired running along side of the bikes. We intended to visit the beach by our camp but ended up biking (on a daily basis) to get to the dog friendly beach. Our daily outing ended up a (perk) because we rode away from busy and loud day use section located next to the camp location. Perk: The campground offers electric hookups to 40 of its 52 sites. Note: book early and camp away from the day use section! It is crowded and you do get day use people walking through the camp sections and at times --your camp!

Perfect camping spot! So close to the beach! With easy access. Stores close by which makes it very convenient

Francis Beach Campground in Half Moon Bay is a lovely campground and the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The Francis Beach Campground is very close to the downtown of Half Moon Bay. It is less than 5 minutes away from driving. You can find many restaurants and stores selling some featured items you can only find in the area. The campground itself is immaculate and well maintained. The campsites have a lot of space between RVs. The campground is not very big, but right next to the ocean. You can bring a chair set in front of the Pacific Ocean and watch a gorgeous sunset with your significant other or your friends and family! The only thing I have to say is this campground is very windy most of the time. Make sure you bring enough clothing, or you will have a Half Moon Bay jacket when you're going home! Lol!

Very nice little state park. Bathrooms very clean. Park is quiet at night. Dogs allowed at campground. Dogs cannot go onto the beach at this spot. Drive in and walk in camping both. Some drive ins have electricity Very windy during the day.

Francis Beach Campground is part of Half Moon Bay State Beach, so one can reserve a spot by going to the State Park website. Reservation fee is $7.99 and the weekend rate is $35.00 per night. The showers are pretty clean , there are four shower rooms in each building ( there are two separate buildings). Restrooms are pretty clean also. Campsites 36, 37 and 38 are right on the beach front which means the views are spectacular but it can get pretty windy and cold especially at night. I personally prefer sites that are not right on the beach front at this particular campground because of the chilly nights. Camp host lady is friendly and helpful, she had no problem giving us changes (quarters for the shower) for $5 bills. You can purchase firewood from her as well. This is a very well maintained campground in my opinion, the ground is well kept , fire ring is a good size and facilities are clean. I also absolutely love the Tuolomne Campground in Yosemite but there's no shower there. (But the views are spectacular) Just like at the San Simeon Campground, you can hear the sound of the waves inside your tent here as well. So far this place is one of my favorite campground. My other favorite campgrounds - Tuolomne at Yosemite San Simeon State Beach New Brighton Beach Big Basin Redwood Costanoa at Pescadero Mammoth Lake

Awesome campground right by the beach in beautiful Half Moon Bay. Enjoy the sound of the ocean waves all night long. Sites are spacious, level and have picnic tables. Electric hook up is available but no water or sewer. They have a dump station for $10. Bathrooms have toilets on one side, coin operated showers on the opposite side of the buildings. One of THE Best campground to enjoy the sunsets by far.

There's a $10 honorary charge for parking your car where you deposit $10 in cash by the bathrooms although the print is so small I'm pretty half the people there didn't notice at all. Dunes Beach also connects to the rest of the Half Moon Bay Beaches including Venice Beach. Here are some of my observations and things that I liked: - I appreciate that there is both a beach area but also this small park area where people can just watch the views without getting sand on themselves. - As you walk further south along the beach, there becomes a split between the areas vertically along the beach. I'm not sure what the technical name is but there's a running water strait between the sand area which is then kind of hard to continue to walk down the beach as you have to cross the water strait. - The wind is crazy and it is COLD, wear a parka - yes, even when it's July. Okay maybe that's too much but at least bring the option of a parka in case you get cold. Overall, great beach. It does get busy on the weekend though but if you decide to cross the strait, which not many people do, you get to a have a semblance of a private beach.

Talk about a great day at the beach with pals! My friends and I ventured up to Half Moon Bay on a…read moreSaturday afternoon for a beach escape. I recommend driving through Woodside, despite it being a longer route, as the views along the way were stellar. Once you arrive, there's a sandy road leading to a parking lot. The parking lot was mainly full, so we had to park on the side of the road and walk the distance to the parking lot. The parking lot has some horses next to it. It can be a bit confusing once you get to the parking lot.If you want to stand above a cliff and look down, then being at the parking lot is perfect for you. But, if you would like to feel the sand beneath your toes or hop in the ocean for a dip, be ready for a trek down a large cliff. It did feel very scary, intimidating, and dangerous - especially since my friends were carrying large bags down - but it's a necessary evil journey down to enjoy the beach in its full glory. I do not recommend wearing flip flops if you're planning on going down to the beach, as it can be easy to slip down the cliff. I also wouldn't recommend going down if it was raining, as it can be very slippery due the large incline and pure height of the cliff. The beach is really long and was relatively empty when we had climbed down. There aren't any benches to sit on, so bring some seats or blankets to enjoy the view. The water is very cold, like many NorCal beaches, and there weren't any people swimming in it. Despite it turning gloomy, the views from the actual beach were beautiful, and in my opinion, worth the hike down. Also, like other beaches in NorCal, there was a windy breeze so bring a layer! We stayed until dark since we wanted to watch the sunset. If you thought it was hard going down, imagine scaling the cliff, carrying our own bags and trash bags, and in the dark. We had to use our phone flashlights to light the way, as there was no lighting around the beach or any of the cliffs other than some near the parking lot. I recommend just watching the sunset from the top to be safe. Overall, if you're okay with hiking down a cliff to access a beach, or even just admiring the view from the parking lot, Redondo Beach is a viable option for you. It's a bit hard to access and dark at night, but we thought it was totally worth it for the view, beach vibe, and good times with friends. We'll be back for another outing!

Great for a stroll or go biking on their trails or hanging out at the beach and watching the waves from the top cliff or on the beach. Good for mountain biking as there are some rough patches of trails you can use as well as flat. Love the white soft sand on the beach. Parking here can be scarce so come early but at least, it's free. [61R,2024]
