One of the closest donut shops there is to me! The guy behind the counter was nice. I bought chocolate donut holes. The prices were fair, especially for a dozen donuts.

    The selection...mmmm

So donut shops are everywhere in Dallas (one of the things I miss most about my home town?..i know i know-- kinda sad). I think there are more donut stores than there Starbucks, which is saying a lot, right? Anywho, I searched for "5-star" donut shops near where I was located and Frankford came up. I walked in early on Sunday morning to a mostly empty store. The woman serving me was all smiles, though. When I stepped up to order, she was very nice and willing to explain all the filling and flavors. I asked if they served soy milk and that gave her a good chuckle. After I completed my order, she gave me a free dozen of donut holes and an extra sugar-sprinkled donut. How awesome is that? I would recommend this to place to anyone with a basic appreciation for donut (in other words, I like plain, localish donut. I do not like big brand/big company donuts and I don't need a lot of extra pizzazz on my donuts (candied bacon for example--really?). Just make it well and not overly sweet and I'm pretty happy). I would highly recommend the buttermilk cake donut. Goodness gracious it was good.

Title: The Burrito That Lied to Me…read more Let me set the scene: a peaceful morning, a loving wife, the promise of a cozy day spent in bed together. Enter Hot Donuts at Frankfort Station, a place that looks whimsical, cheerful, and innocent, much like the villain at the start of a fairytale. I ordered a STEAK, EGG, AND CHEESE BURRITO. Capitalized because those words matter. The burrito was neatly wrapped, clearly labeled, and confidently handed over, bold in its deception. Reader, there were NO eggs. There was NO cheese. There were, however, BEANS. Beans that were never invited. Beans that were never disclosed. Beans that ambushed me from within a tortilla like an unwanted jump scare in a low budget horror film. Now, let us pause the comedy for a moment. Mislabeling food is dangerous. Some people have bean or legume allergies. This is not a quirky oops. It is a legitimate health concern. Someone could get seriously hurt because accuracy clearly is not on the menu here. Back to the trauma. What was meant to be a sweet, effortless morning outing quickly turned into betrayal of the highest order. I feel lied to. Deceived. Swindled. Hoodwinked. Possibly bamboozled. I trusted you, burrito. You looked me in the eye, figuratively, and told me you were something you were not. Now my romantic afternoon plans? Ruined. Instead of enjoying the comforts of my bed, I am now well acquainted with the porcelain throne, and not the throne I planned on worshipping today. Hot Donuts at Frankfort Station, shame on you. You did not just mess up an order. You shattered dreams, digestive systems, and the sacred trust between customer and breakfast burrito. So I say this with the utmost seriousness. DO NOT visit this establishment. I repeat. DO. NOT. visit this establishment. It may look magical with its bright donuts and playful décor, but like Hansel and Gretel, you may find yourself lured in, only to suffer greatly for it. I survived. Barely. Others may not be so lucky. Choose wisely.

We came across Jarams Donuts on Instagram, as their donuts looked really good, and we fancied…read moresomething sweet. We ordered two different types of kolache, and they were great. I would definitely order those again. The donut holes were fresh and crispy. We picked a few donuts to try and really liked the flakiness of the croissant donuts but were a bit disappointed with the fillings and toppings. Unfortunately, they use that very bright, glossy red, commercial-style "strawberry jam" rather than the type of strawberry jam made with noticeable real fruit. For me, it was far too sugary and had more of an artificial strawberry taste. The pastry itself was actually really good, so I think I would have enjoyed it more without the strawberry filling. I was also really looking forward to trying the Nutella & Strawberry Funnel. By this point, I already knew what to expect from the strawberry filling, but I wasn't expecting to be disappointed with the Nutella as well. Having lived in Europe for about a decade and eaten Nutella for years, what was in the funnel did not taste like original Nutella to me. It tasted more like a generic chocolate spread, and I couldn't really taste the hazelnut flavor that Nutella is known for. If it isn't actually original Nutella, I don't think it should be labeled as Nutella because that is what customers will expect when ordering it. At $5.99, I also thought the funnel was a little expensive, especially compared with the $4.69 cronut. The apple fritter, however, was great. The overall flavor and texture of the pastry made it our favorite donut we tried. Overall, it was a shame because our expectations weren't quite met. I wasn't expecting the most amazing pastries in Dallas, but based on how good everything looked online, I was expecting better-quality fillings and toppings. The actual pastries themselves had some really nice textures, and we really enjoyed the kolaches, donut holes, and apple fritter. I just think better-quality fillings and toppings would make a huge difference.
