Hi All, I would like to call your attention to the poor food hygiene in this shop. The food is…read moreyummy (on the few occasions I've had it) but I have to say buying directly at the shop this evening and being able to observe how food was being handled gave me the shivers. I was absolutely appalled to see that the employees are using their BARE HANDS to touch all kind of food, both cooked food (such as fish) but also raw ingredients from the cold condiments section... They should wear gloves... I even saw the person preparing my order go out of sight further inside the kitchen and reappear a few seconds later with a handful of frozen peas in his BARE HAND which he threw into the frying pan to prepare my Risotto Verda. I said to the lady who had accepted my order that this was not OK, to which she said they ALL USED THEIR BARE HANDS AT THIS SHOP and this was OK as long as their hands were clean... I saw her using her BARE HAND to pull out two pre-cooked pieces of fish from the heated window to prepare somebody's fish and chips order... And this is the person who touched the till machine and handled cash, etc. I asked to speak to the manager but was refused. When I said I would unfortunately have to report them to the local food hygiene authority, there was a flurry of activity as another employee started dealing a number and handing the phone over to the lady speaking to me... I asked for my receipt so I could go (without the food obviously) and as I was going out of the shop she shouted behind me that I should better never go back... So adding poor customer service to poor food hygiene and handling... Just so disappointing. This can't be right. I have reported the shop to the local food hygiene authority. I would ask everyone reading this review to please observe if the hygiene remains poor at this shop and report them accordingly. It would be worth it if we could save at least one person from getting a bug or infection or food poisoning after eating food from this shop.

Not a bad option, but I was just disappointed in a few things so I don't think we'll return. First, lots of burning on the crust. I'm happy with some char, but burnt pizza makes me feel like I'm not getting what I pay for. The toppings were minimal and haphazardly added, but that's a small note. The sauce is decent, but for a thin crust, it was incredibly flimsy. A bit soggy. Good, crisp pizza should hold its shape when you lift it up! I think the oven is maybe too hot? Or they aren't rotating the pizzas? Because it's burning on the edge but not fully cooked on the bottom. I'm also confused on the mozzarella stick dipping sauce. Marinara is what you would expect, but this is a garlic aoli... so basically just mayo. Garlic was not strong. It wasn't horrid, but not great, and it's a weird combo. THOUGH, I will add the mozzarella sticks were beautifully crispy and the breading was nice and thin. I really liked the mozzarella sticks themselves. Overall, I would unfortunately not recommend this location.

Pomo Pizzeria is located in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh and was just a stones throw away from our hotel. We sat down and pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves! Their menu features pizza, pasta, a variety of share plates (appetizers) and more with a good amount of kid friendly options too. Posted on their wall, you'll also find their specials that include drinks and dessert. We went with a capricciosa pizza, risotto funghi misti, and penne arrabiata. For dessert, vanilla ice cream! Our food came out quickly and overall, pretty good. Flavors were a bit light and could've been seasoned more, but still good and didn't feel heavy on the stomach. What I really liked about the restaurant was the decor. It was totally my jam with a bit of the old world charm in the use of wood and their brick walls, mixed with modern fixtures and features. Definitely recommend this spot if you're in the neighborhood! Prices are fair and don't break the bank.

He simply doesn't have a business mind. La Barca could be the best in SQ if it were in better hands. The view from the dining room is amazing, especially at dusk, just don't ever wander upstairs as it looks like a squat. The owners need to sell this to someone who knows how to take full advantage of the property. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket and are keen on a night out in SQ I can't recommend La Barca under its current ownership.

It is a very busy place and apparently very popular with tourists and locals alike. The building does look a bit shabby from the outside, but as soon as you enter you think you boarded a sailing ship with its wooden walls and blue carpet. The view towards the Forth Bridge are amazing. Large windows offer a 180 degree view onto the surrounding area. Its an Italian restaurant and the menu is extensive. Besides the typical Italian dishes like pizza and pasta you also get the choice of fish and steak. I ordered a Napolitana pizza with anchovies and olives. The base was thin and there was plenty of cheese and tomato sauce. The edges were crispy. As a starter I ordered parma ham and melon. The size of the dishes are good. Yes, during the summer season you might be charged more, but if you have a special occasion or are in town on holidays, why not! The service is friendly enough. We were lucky to have had our waiter, who was very friendly and service was fast. Enjoy!
