I would first like to recognize Scott E. Gatze for his exceptional service. He was professional,…read morecompassionate, responsive, and genuinely helpful. His willingness to step in completely turned our experience around, and he is truly an asset to your organization. Unfortunately, our experience with Jonathan Sandwell was extremely disappointing. His handling of our loved one's arrangements was, in our experience, unacceptable. The flower order he handled was incorrect, communication was poor, and there was a serious lack of urgency in securing the necessary dates for the military funeral honors. Critical arrangements were left until the last minute, forcing my family to step in and take action ourselves to ensure everything was properly coordinated. This was not simply an inconvenience. Had my family not intervened, our loved one could have missed the military honors they had earned and deserved. That is an incredibly serious failure when you are entrusted with helping a family honor a veteran. What made the situation even more frustrating was Jonathan later appearing to take credit for arrangements that my family had personally worked to secure. Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend that families choose someone other than Jonathan if they have that option. He did not give us confidence that our loved one's arrangements were being handled with the care, urgency, or attention they deserved. His lack of follow-through created unnecessary stress for a grieving family at a time when we should have been able to trust the professionals handling these arrangements. Separately, I had a brief interaction with Victoria "Tori" Monforte when I asked a simple question. Unfortunately, I was met with an unnecessary amount of attitude rather than a helpful response. Although it was a brief interaction, it left a negative impression. During such an emotional time, families deserve compassion, professionalism, clear communication, urgency, and attention to detail. We are especially grateful that Scott demonstrated all of those qualities and helped restore our confidence in the process. His service showed us exactly what this experience should have looked like from the beginning.

The problem is with their sales. One of our family members was buried at Camelia Memorial Lawn in…read morethe 70's. Then, recently, we added cremated remains of another family member who did not want a funeral. Camellia Memorial Lawn required us to pay for a funeral because the funeral and burial of cremated remains "was all inclusive in the price". So, to add ashes to a burial plot that we owned cost $8,274. We had to pay for a funeral that did not happen. I did not have a choice because the deceased couple wanted to be buried together. They knew this. They knew I would be forced to pay whatever they quoted. This is just wrong. Based on what happened later, I learned this price could probably been negotiated. Ask to speak with a manager if you are faced with this type of unreasonable tactics. It happened again when I paid for the headstone. I wanted the additional headstone to match the original headstone from the 1970's. I was told that they dont use cement to encase headstones anymore, now they use marble. He told me the marble encasing the new headstone is all inclusive pricing for the headstone. The suggestion of the salesperson was to remove the cement from the original headstone and replace it with marble to match the new headstone going in. I said, "Absolutely not! That is a military headstone that has been there for 50 years! We are not pulling it up!" Then, he showed me a pricing sheet that had individual pricing for each item, so it was not all inclusive pricing. I pointed this out. I pointed out that there is a new plot with cement encasing the headstone. He relented. I had to fight, argue and haggle to avoid paying for marble that I did not want and to avoid replacing parts of the original headstone and to get cement encasement for the newly added headstone. Finally, I was told I would be notified when the headstone came in. I wanted to be there for the placement. They never notified me. They installed it and sent me a picture of it. Then, did not respond to my email about this issue. Just know you are dealing with a salesperson when you are buying a plot, headstone, or other services. Don't let them take advantage of you and your grief. Negotiate or have someone who can negotiate help you.
