From a guest perspective they do a phenomenal job. From the family of those that passed away it is a bit challenge working with them. They have a delay with the cremation and getting it into the urn. Everything was last minute they couldn't guarantee the urn would be ready in time for the celebration of life. The place is peaceful and well decorated. One of the workers was at the door to greet us and pass out programs. They have a nice entry hall for the guest book to be placed and for the guests to sign in. The microphone and overhead projector worked like a charm. Everyone was able to hear the speakers and there was no static or feedback. The staff was polite and not intrusive. They even remembered me from last time I was there. The bathroom was easy to find and clean. They have a private lot and parking was a cinch. We even got parking in the shade. read more

It was that time of year to visit my wife's family who have passed on. East Lawn does a great job at keeping their grounds nice all the time. They have garbage cans spread throughout the grounds to toss the wrappings of the flowers and trimmings. There were a lot of visitors when we went. most Asians visit at this time of the year. Some burn fake money and other things. Some bring food to eat to. I even saw a grave with an unopened beer and a pint of Hennessey . Cute. read more

I unfortunately had to lay two of my family members within 3 months of each other to rest here. The service I received was absolutely so kind and caring. The funeral director reviewed everything we needed to do and was very thoughtful about the things we asked for. He was upfront about the pricing of the services and on the day of the funerals all staff members were professional. There was a mix up on the flower delivery and the staff worked quickly to fix it. Today, I went to visit my family members at the cemetery and a staff member helped me clean up my family members grave markers and even shined them up for me! He really didn't need to do that, and it really made me feel like all staff members here take pride in their work. read more

First time visiting and witnessing a cremation. We had our funeral director, Bob arrange todays visit. Our time to say our final goodbyes. I used to pass by here all the time when I worked at Smud, but never actually entered the grounds. The grounds are so well kept, and very clean. Inside the building was traditional with several chapels, and beautiful stained glass windows. At first I had reservations about seeing the cremation, but with my son"s and the hubby there, we felt at peace.. My sister had a terrible experience with her purchase of her advanced funeral planning from East Lawn. This is an update to my one-star rating. We just received the refund check from canceling my sister's advanced funeral plans. I would give a zero if I could. My sister returned to East Lawn to finalize & sign the paperwork, and she expected to receive a refund and pay the 50% inconvenience fee of $3,594 to cancel her advanced funeral planning. She lives in Hong Kong and decided not to be buried in Sacramento for her children's sake. This time the terms for the 100% refund again changed on this subsequent visit. My sister and I was informed that this is no longer an inconvenience fee but that East Lawn will not repurchase the "right of internment" privilege that belongs to my sister when she purchased the advanced funeral planning. The refund was now less $606.00. She was told that her option is this: sell and quit claim the rights to a willing buyer via ebay or other marketing tool. According to East Lawn, my sister and I could easily find a buyer because the internment rights have increased in price significantly and we could make a nice profit. I was asked by the rep to change my rating to a more positive note because we were "all smiles" when we left. The bottom line is this: My spouse and I live in Sacramento, but we will not be purchasing any advanced funeral planning with East Lawn because of this experience. read more

We initially met Cory Shuster several years ago when my family was planning for our internment. We appreciated how he worked with us making sure we understood the process. My Mom passed away on June 19, 2024. The two young men who came at 4:30 am, Erick and Audel, were simply amazing. They were dressed in suits, ties, folded handkerchiefs in pockets, and dress shoes. They were impeccably groomed. They knew their role in this process and took care to be comforting and careful. The process of moving my Mom from her bed to the trolly, covering her, and taking her outside was all done with care and concern. They spoke gently and assured my 95-year-old Dad that they would take good care of Mom. When my dad thanked them, they replied that it was an honor. Wow. Two days later, Cory introduced us to Buffie Lynch, the Funeral Director, to arrange for the graveside service. She was also impeccably dressed. She went through the process with patience and answered all of our questions. She made the entire process simple. It took us a bit to finalize Mom's obituary. Buffie was patient and made revisions online for us several times! She relayed the information we needed and she worked with our Pastor as well. On the day of the viewing and service, we were greeted by both Cory and Buffie. We knew we were in good hands. Buffie walked us down this amazing corridor sharing stories about those interned there and the stained glass windows. The room we were in felt sacred. My Mom looked lovely and at peace. Buffie sat quietly and let us have all the time we needed to say goodbye to Mom before she was transported outside for the service. The hearse arrived and Cory was there with his team to carefully move the casket to the grave site. Buffie had roses for each of us and our guests to place on the casket at the end of the service. She greeted our guests and helped with whatever was needed. Both she and Cory were impeccably dressed and this was a 90-plus-degree day in the Sacramento Valley! They were patient and let us have all the time we needed. Because we didn't want to be there when they lowered the casket into the ground, they waited for over an hour for us to finish. They never indicated any sort of pressure to hurry or to move on. Their acceptance was one of pure compassion for the moment and the people. When I got the invite for the "Elite Perk: Famous Figures Cemetery Tours." I new this was going to be an interesting event for sure! When the day arrived, we entered the beautiful, art deco style main building, which was like entering a stately manor or nice hotel. This is where offices are located and a reception desk. We were directed up a regal staircase to the second floor where funerals are performed. (They also have an old fashion elevator). A comforting church-like setting complete with boxes of tissues at every pew. This is where prayers, eulogies, and blessings are performed for the deceased, and viewing the body. Craig Peterson is the mortuary manager and very knowledgeable historian who presided upon our fascinating tour of the dead. There was so much to take in, from the original history when it began as a run down graveyard to it's present pristine, historical landmark of today! We were led through numerous corridors lined with crypts, specialized tombs, and china cabinet style shelving made to display cremation urns, along with family mementos that are allowed to accompany loved ones' remains. It was like being in a mansion that had places for visitors to relax and reflect on comfortable benches, sofas, & chairs, even to admire artwork hanging on the walls. Stained glass windows from different artists adorn the halls. It seemed like every inch of the building was part of a historical moment in time! After listening to all the stimulating highlights involving the mausoleum interior, we were able to walk out to the well maintained lawns of the grave sights nearby. The amazing history of former Sacramento residents who were well-to-do, famous or even unknown, have found a place somewhere within all the acreage reserved for the dead. And that even includes a mass grave sight from the Sutter's Fort era! We even got a complimentary booklet that lists many of the dearly departed along with their accomplishments. Maps of the East Lawn Buildings and the cemetery itself are included. Definitely a "must see and must hear" tour for anyone who has an interest in Sacramento history and the people who left their niche on the city! Wow what can I say...My grandma, great aunts, aunt, and step great-uncle are buried here. Actually interred in the above ground mausoleums (which terrified me as a kid but I think it's actually pretty cool now). I love the grounds, they are peaceful and beautiful. I get very claustrophobic and scared in the buildings but they are beautiful too, and the Art Deco decor is stunning. I visit here the Matriarchs on occasion (Azaela Court) here and I always feel thankful I can visit their internment site in this beautiful East Sacramento cemetery. I jumped at the chance to go to a guided tour recently, bringing my niece and nephew to the Yelp elite bonus event. I learned a lot of history (like, why is there a huge cemetery in the middle of a fancy residential area) and got to see the tomb of the Gypsy King and other icons of Sacramento (Crockers, etc.) But, at the end of the day I'm grateful so many of Sacramento's less famous residents were buried here (like my family members) and the tradition of paying respects and visiting the ancestors can carry on here. read more

I just came to visit my dad at East Lawn and I realized that I hadn't left a review yet. I am very grateful to have worked with Emmanuel at East Lawn (Folsom Blvd.) during those extremely painful days after my dad passed away. Everyone was very kind and helpful, but Emmanuel is someone that my family and I will never forget. He was very patient with us when the time came to select a burial plot and he treated my mom with so much respect and compassion. Now that my dad has been gone for 2 months, I still believe that we made the right decision in choosing East Lawn as my dad's final resting place. Thankfully, I have never been to East Lawn for any other reason than one of pure enjoyment. It's strange to refer to a cemetery that way. But this is much more than a cemetary. Nestles into an old neighborhood in East Sacramento, East Lawn is a beautiful and historic piece of Sacramento history that is perfect for walking and holds regular tours. It helps that this is a spot off of Folsom that is tucked back into the neighborhood. Beautiful houses surround it. The grounds here are immaculate. It's spacious, too, so you could head into the middle, enjoy the Spring or Fall colors and feel like you are no longer in the heart of a bustling city. I took part in a historic cemetery tour here a couple years back and it was fascinating. We learned so much about famous folks buried here, notable gravestones and the history of East Lawn. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'd encourage checking this place out if you're nearby. read more

This is my Tuesday spot for lunch. My mother passed away in March of 2012. Since her internment, I have made every effort to visit with fresh flowers on Tuesdays during my lunch hour. I can honestly say that in the past 5 1/2 years, I have only missed maybe 6 times. During my visits, I will also pay respects to my mom' two sisters, my mom's four brother in laws and my grandparents on my mom's side. My siblings and I have also purchased real estate next to mom. This particular East Lawn location is where many of Sacramento's public figures are buried like William Land of William Land Park, Congressmen, Actors & Actresses, and several former Sacramento Mayors. On a more personal note my grandmother is buried here, who was followed by my grandfather 14 yrs later. Who was also the President of East Lawn Memorial Parks & Mortuaries prior to his passing. So my mom has been coming here several times a year since my grandmothers passing, and when I was younger myself and my younger siblings would come along with her. My grandfather and I both served in the US Army and he had a military style funeral, and so for me I like to at least pay him a visit every year on Memorial Day to celebrate his service. Along with the other several hundred men and women that are easily recognizable that day, with American flags adorned at their headstones. For me this is a little more personal as my grandfathers tombstone doesn't note his service (I don't think my mom, aunt or uncle thought about it at the time of his passing. As they had a lot going on). But I've made it a habit now to ensure he is honored that day as well, and get a flag for him which are available for anyone visiting. To be able to put out in front the tombstones of their choice. I've taken my boys to visit their great-grandparents a couple of times to be apart of my continued tradition. But this year it got me thinking about how my grandfather isn't the only one who's buried there, and have served in our nations military; but that might not get recognized. So I decided this time to go out with several more flags, and was able to honor 4 more gentlemen who served. But that did not have flags in front of their tombstones, and so from now I have at least 4 other men in honor. When I go to pay my respects to my grandparents. read more

Writing this review after visiting family members Thanksgiving Day, this issue is not the first time I have seen this but the problem and no attitude of these people ( people walking dogs , jogging and walking in the memorial park who feel that I am imposing on them because I am in a vehicle. Privileged to visit East Lawn today for a famous people / historic tour, what a treat! Walking into the chapel area is like walking into a surreal Twin Peaks scene with its very stylized art deco designs paired with a very homey feel. Our tour guide was excellent - I wish I could just walk around to every marker and have him tell me about that person's life lol Very cool to learn about how East Lawn came to be a cemetery (it's the highest point in Sacramento!) - lots of drama, obviously. Lots of famous Sacramento names I've heard of, but never really knew the story behind them. We even got to see the inside of the William Land mausoleum - the money he donated to the city of Sacramento in his passing is why we have William Land Park! The stained glass windows are beautiful and ornate - I could see myself coming back just to see how they all look in different sunlight during the day. And wow - the metal ceiling that's painted to look like wood! Lots of solitary seating throughout the main building, seems like a nice and quiet place to meditate or read (and keep the dead company, no disrespect). read more

I rarely write reviews. East Lawn is a great facility for a funeral. The funeral overall, went very well. I would have given them 5 stars except for the counselor we were assigned, Daisy. I only tried calling the funeral home once prior to the funeral to request to see my my mom in private before the funeral the following day. My request went to Daisy's voicemail in the morning. I followed up around 1 pm and the receptionist was again going to send me to Daisy's voicemail when I insisted I need to speak to someone directly. When Daisy answered the phone and I repeated the request her response was a resounding "no". I waited for further clarification as to why. Since no reason was provided, I asked her why? She stated it's too late in the afternoon. I knew the answer was nonsense. First the funeral home closes at 5 pm. Second my initial request was made in the morning. If I had not insisted on speaking to someone when I called again, I'm pretty sure Diasy's norm for doing business is to send patrons to voicemail and never reply. The second time I needed to contact Daisy was to pick up death certificates. I reached out via email to confirm I could gather them on Saturday. I had one additional follow-up email to confirm whether the funeral home notifies social security when there is a death. No response. I ended up calling the funeral home the following day and the receptionist transferred me to a counselor to ask my question. By happenstance, my call was forwarded to Daisy where I asked the question again and informed her I had also sent an email with no response. She answered my question on the call. LOL. I'm not sure if there is a leadership problem at East Lawn and all counselors are unresponsive or whether the issue just lies with Daisy. Regardless, in this day and age of the internet and reviews, I'm surprised there are still staff that behave this way with customers! :) read more

A few weeks ago I went to East Lawn to begin Pre Planning for my disposition. I met with an employee by the name of C----------------. I spent 2 hours touring the grounds with him. I explained to him that I have a number of close relatives buried at that cemetery and I would like to make East Lawn my final resting place. He said that he would e-mail me quotes for the different options open to me. After reviewing those options I chose a crypt. However, against my express wishes he told me I had to be embalmed. Thus, he told me I cannot be put into a crypt there. Upon further inquiries at other Sacramento area cemeteries I found that would not be an issue. Therefore, I can only conclude that East Lawn has terrible misguided management. I would not recommend them to my worse enemy. One more thing I discovered, at all of the other cemeteries I visited the in ground flower receptacles are made of quality materials made to last. Not the cheap metal canisters that East Lawn uses that deteriorate and must be replaced every few years. Simply put East Lawn are in my opinion cheapskates. read more

It is a difficult time for our family, with great sadness we had to make so many decisions on a service deserving of the life we lost. My brother passed away and I called East Lawn from the hospital room. Thankfully I was put in touch with Heidi Hill, Funeral Director. I have been grateful everyday for the past two weeks that she answered the phone. We were out of our element.. had no earthly idea what we were doing. Heidi has overseen every step of the process and handled everything like the excellent funeral director that she is. We have been beyond impressed with her and so very thankful for her expertise! She organized a small viewing and two days later, a Buddhist ceremony in the crematory. She even contacted the venue for the Celebration of Life for my brother to arrange things. Every time there was an issue she contacted us and led us in the right direction without ever saying, "It's gonna be okay" or "Don't cry." Heidi just listened and let us grieve. She also arranged a slideshow of photos with music that we are able to watch and pass along to his daughter. Truly a class act there at East Lawn. Thank you, Heidi for all you've done. read more

People are just dying to check this place out, too soon? I got the chance to go and learn some of the history of the highly well kept East Lawn and Mausoleum in East Sacramento. Craig was our guide for an Elite Perk Famous Figures Cemetery tour. Craig started our tour in the chapel where he went over some of the history, including his own, and some of the famous figures that were buried or cremated in the premises. From there we took a tour of the building hallways with beautiful stained glass windows with the light hitting it to create something that is so morbid into a beautiful walk of life. We went to a few corridors and learned the history of the burial process and up the stairs where we got to see the cases where families would place urns and ashes of their loved ones. we ended the tour in William Land's tomb which was amazing, a beautiful marble building which had a painting on the inside and an emaculate floor that was decorative. read more

Direct cremation for me, please! When it's my turn to go, just fire me up and put me in my little box (urn and niche) that is all set up for and paid for about a decade ago. No frills and additional expenses for my family. If my family or friends would like to have a service and pay the cost, go for it, but it'll be at your own expense. Instead of a funeral service, have a party instead and stuff yourselves with good food and drinks to celebrate life. I love to party, so have an Unofficial Yelp Event (UYE) in my honor. LOL! Prepare for your final demise, my friends. I lost a family member recently. The internment was paid in advance by my family member who passed away, but the expenses for funeral services, coffin, flowers, etc. were not included. This is something you will need to consider and inquire when preparing for your final demise and resting place. In Memory of a G.B. - Gone but not forgotten.... "I promised Mattie P. that I'd Yelp about this. East Lawn Memorial Park is one of the most intriguing cemeteries anywhere: forget the historical significance; forget that William Land is entombed there in one of the largest Parthenon-style crypts this side of Athens; and forget that Captain B.T. Collins is buried there and is sporting a tombstone with an engraving of a hook that would make Captain Hook envious! Forget all those things, but remember this - The King of the Gypsies is buried there. And in the crypt next door? The Queen! It's clearly marked above the wrought iron gates - chiseled into solid granite: KING OF THE GYPSIES. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this hallowed, Gypsy burial site the day after someone's dearly-departed was forever laid to rest. It was a sight to behold... There was a feast draping the tomb: meat; bread; cheese; fruit; desserts beyond your imagination! And dear lord, booze everywhere! Beer. Wine. Spirits. You name it! Why was there a buffet in a graveyard? I was dumbfounded. And I guess my loitering caught the attention of the groundskeeper. He approached me and commented, "It's really something, ain't it?" I replied, "I don't get it." Then he told me the most amazing thing: "These Gypsies," he whispered, "have more wealth than you or me will see in a lifetime. They live in Reno and Stockton and they're very good customers of East Lawn. They pretty much do what they want when there's a funeral; we close the gates and the place is theirs. They were here all night last night. They "party" with the dead. You wouldn't believe the jewelry they toss in them caskets before we close the tombs. They left all of this food and booze for the spirits to consume in the afterlife." The dude gave me the shivers, but my disbelief was suspended so I asked a final question, "And do the spirits imbibe the beer and spirits?" The groundskeeper whispered, "Huh? Heck, no... I take all this crap home. It's one of the perks." Until that day, I had no idea a groundskeeper had such a great job. No idea. None. And I knew then what I had to do... I was going back to my high school and punching my guidance counselor right in the mouth!" read more

I like to walk around cemeteries. Some people may think that's a bit weird, morbid, or freaky, but I find them to be serene places to walk. East Lawn is one of my favorites because it has awesome historical value and I actually enjoy reading some of the older headstones and thinking about the life that the people may have led in the 1800 to early 1900s. This is a very peaceful place that is inhabited by numerous squirrels and birds. I sometimes even bring my camera to take pictures of historic headstones or the beautiful rays of sunshine that peek through the tree branches. If you have the chance to walk around, I highly recommend it. It's a great place to walk and think or sit and ponder. Plus, it's just plain pretty. read more

This review is specifically for my experience with JERAN JE. He was incredibly apathetic, condescending, and unprofessional during an incredibly sensitive time. Based on his irrefutably disgusting personality, I would rate this experience with negative stars if provided the option. My family and I met with him to gather information regarding services that had been paid for during years prior. It was my impression that because he did not anticipate receiving additional sales from us, that he felt we were "wasting" his time. He was eager to have us prematurely sign paperwork when we stated repeatedly that we were in the beginning stages of funeral planning and just ensuring that we were informed of what was included in our services. Ultimately, we utilized East Lawn's services and later met with another representative that was far more pleasant. Candice, This is 100% about the lack of respect and professionalism of East Lawn staff to even just tell me that the information couldn't be provided. Instead of being forthcoming and communicating that fact, the staff treated someone with a deceased parent in their memorial park with deplorable conduct. And since no one in the management office has reached out to find out what happened, it can be presumed no one there really cares that this occurred.
