I took Jennifer's tours with no photography experience other than my smart phone, and shooting my mom's camera in Auto mode. It's an amazing pottery studio with a large selection of glazes & tools, enough wheels. Their open hour passes and classes include generous amounts of clay for you to start working on your creations and includes firing costs. But the best part about the studio are the owners and staff. They are all talented, kind and fun people that help form a wonderful community at the studio. I highly recommend for adults and kids alike. I have taken a couple 8week courses here and learnt so much. And my kids have enjoyed open hours at the studio.

Every work area is well equipped with the tools of the trade and the tools are well maintained. It's the kind of makerspace where you can spend all day. There's a full commercial kitchen and communal eating/meeting area, so no need to leave in the middle of a project. And the community of makers is phenomenal. The member-teachers I've learned from so far have been top notch - I look forward to taking classes in ceramics, stained glass and art framing next. I highly recommend Past Lives LLC for quality, community and learning.

He listened to what I was seeking to improve, and after running through the basics, he targeted information to my requests, and showed me how to negotiate some of the situations about which I was most concerned- deck motion, long-range zoom clarity, and low light. Even just taking the time to set up and break down my travel tripod was a relief and gave me confidence. Parsing all of the info into chunks made it doable rather than overwhelming. Thanks, Mateo!

I had a big trip coming up and thought "hey, I should learn how to use my camera". I looked up…read morephoto classes on Yelp and My Photo Instructor came up. What an excellent class! I took a two hour private lesson with Mateo. He works out of a bright and airy shared space and we went over all the basics of the camera. You get to fill out a sheet so he can find out what level you are. He went over a lot of material in a very kind and instructive way, so personable and friendly. We went over Aperture, ISO and Shutter speed and even though I probably got every one of his questions wrong, he never made me feel bad about it. I would definitely recommend his classes and private lessons. If you're a beginner, want to brush up or enjoy learning more about photography, he can fine tune it to your level. He's a great professional and really knew his stuff. Mateo also provides great follow up and recommendations. You can tell he enjoyed the subject and wanted to share the knowledge.

I really am grateful that this place still operates. I come here for the live drawing sessions…read more They have 2 , 3 hour sessions on the weekends that I attend as much as I can. The nude figure drawing in the mornings and the clothes/costumed figure drawings in the afternoons. They also offer several different, affordable drawing/painting classes depending on their schedule, which is so easy to find online. On the weekends that I've attended, the models are great and professional, they have both male and female models and if you check out their instagram, they usually post who the model is going to be on the clothed/costumed figure drawing, plus they list the name of the models for the nude figure drawings on their website. The place is big, as well as the stage and the lighting is very nice. Lots of seating (old movie seating on one side, a big sharing table, and 2 or 3 smaller tables with folding chairs and "horses") and lots of easels, you can also borrow a drawing board and or clips, if you forget yours. Otherwise, come prepared. It's $15 for the weekend sessions, but don't forget to tip the model. They are so, so good at posing for artists ( foreshortened poses, posing with props, etc) and holding whatever pose they are at. They have a couple minutes of gesture poses in the beginning and then they will hold a pose for 30 minutes at a time. Never the same pose, but very impressive. Especially for someone like me with adhd, who can't even sit still long enough to finish this review in one go. Minus one star for letting people in 30 minutes after the session has started, because of all the easel and supplies of that person setting up can be very disruptive. Also I wish they would put photos (even just a passport photo will do) OR just add make or female, of their models online, so I have an idea of who's going to model that day. There are days that I just do not want to have to even look at a penis, and I'd want to know if that is what I'll be seeing that day, you know? No hate on penises, just, sometimes it can be a bit much. Having the names listed doesn't necessarily help all the time, especially with gender neutral names. Other than that, I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to do some live drawings. Also check out their other art classes.

Just finished both beauty and FX classes at Art of Makeup and it was one of the best decisions i…read moremade. Both Celena and John worked really hard to make us happy, they were really approachable and friendly and fun to talk to. The makeup kits are awesome! I interacted with so many new products and learned so many new techniques. It was all about makeup (and 1 week of hair) and i feel confident to start my freelance career. I highly recommend the SFX makeup class as it's an opportunity. Thomas (who was won 2 Emmy awards for SFX makeup) became a friend by the end of the class and learning from him was incredible! (honestly how did those 7 weeks past so fast?) If you're considering studying makeup be it beauty or SFX, Art of Makeup is the place to go!
