I've never had any camera instruction, and Mateo was able to cover a lot of ground for me. He listened to what I was seeking to improve, and after running through the basics, he targeted information to my requests, and showed me how to negotiate some of the situations about which I was most concerned- deck motion, long-range zoom clarity, and low light. Even just taking the time to set up and break down my travel tripod was a relief and gave me confidence. Parsing all of the info into chunks made it doable rather than overwhelming. Thanks, Mateo!

I had a big trip coming up and thought "hey, I should learn how to use my camera". I looked up…read morephoto classes on Yelp and My Photo Instructor came up. What an excellent class! I took a two hour private lesson with Mateo. He works out of a bright and airy shared space and we went over all the basics of the camera. You get to fill out a sheet so he can find out what level you are. He went over a lot of material in a very kind and instructive way, so personable and friendly. We went over Aperture, ISO and Shutter speed and even though I probably got every one of his questions wrong, he never made me feel bad about it. I would definitely recommend his classes and private lessons. If you're a beginner, want to brush up or enjoy learning more about photography, he can fine tune it to your level. He's a great professional and really knew his stuff. Mateo also provides great follow up and recommendations. You can tell he enjoyed the subject and wanted to share the knowledge.

Shoutout to our guide, Angela!…read more We met at the park-and-ride and joined several other people for a waterfall tour through the Columbia River Gorge. We visited Latourell Falls, Shepperd's Dell, and Wahkeena Falls before ending at the iconic Multnomah Falls. Angela was incredibly knowledgeable and kept the tour interesting with all kinds of facts about the Gorge and the surrounding area. She even pointed out fresh blackberries along the way and showed us some banana slugs which, naturally, I was delighted by. I really appreciated that the tour wasn't just "look, waterfall!" Angela kept sharing little facts and observations that made the whole experience more interesting and gave us a better appreciation for what we were seeing. A beautiful way to explore the Gorge without having to figure out all the logistics yourself.

A bit late and behind, but I've got to give a shoutout to Susan from Around Portland Tour! If…read moreyou're planning a trip to Portland (OR), I highly recommend doing the tour at the start of your trip--not the end--because now I have to come back just to follow up on other "tidbits and records " she shared on the history of Portland's parks and recreation scenes. The tour kicks off by meeting up at a red building--easiest to find if you're walking just outside the perimeter. Look for a small black signage on the door. The owner usually leaves the door unlocked in the morning hours so look for benches set up for you to seat and wait for your group. Susan, our guide, is a Portland native who left for college and returned back to Portland. She gave us some great bonus insights beyond the standard tour -- like history of the places, including local tycoons, how roads were funded and how each section of the districts were divided. More importantly , she suggested a ghost tour and highly recommend to try biking around town--definitely on my list for next time!
