Came here for a wedding, which took up two floors. The cocktail hour was on the 2nd floor, where the host got an all out Italian h'orderves, which all tasted amazing. The meatballs stood out to me the most. The ceremony took place on the 1st floor, and later retrofitted for the evening reception during cocktail hour. There was an open bar, but they were serving them in very small glasses, which was most likely half a drink in terms of keeping track of alcohol consumption. Despite this, the line moved quickly with three bartenders handling the crowd. Overall, it's a wonderful venue to host a wedding. The staff are great and the food was fantastic. read more

I'm a meeting & event planner, however this was not an event I did- but that is my mindset whenever I attend an event- so here are my thoughts. I attended a friends wedding here. The food was very good. Cocktail hour was never short of food- almost too much- most people were full by the time we had dinner (not that that would ever be a "problem".) my friend told me that she ordered the standard package - so you know you're getting plenty of food (& it was all tasteful). Service: bartenders and wait staff were all very attentive and efficient. It's refreshing to see that. Layout: there were about 175 people at the wedding. Cocktails were upstairs- steep steps which are fine for most, but elderly will need to take small elevator. Most people took the stairs, but it is narrow and steep and the rug pattern will throw you off. There was staff at the stairs to give you a hand on the last few steps. The dinner room was L shaped as you enter: big bar, dance floor then you turn for the dining hall. It's a nice layout for about 175 ppl. Lighting was nice as well. The building used to be an old bank so there is some pretty nice architecture and safes/nooks to explore for little ones. Overall a very nice venue for that special day that isn't just a "ballroom". I attended my sister-in-law's here earlier this month. The location was great (with a hotel right across the street) and lots for guests to do earlier in the day before the wedding. The venue itself was great. The wedding was in the area which the reception & dinner was held but you would have thought you were in two completely different places. There is a neat old safe on the main floor and I enjoyed poking around there. The organization was pretty good. The wedding was lit in a very nice manner and was gorgeous. The cocktail hour upstairs had fabulous finger foods - I could have eaten just that food for the night. The bar during cocktail hour did not have a very long line and the bartenders were quick to serve. The dinner service was great. The servers were all very attentive and the food was amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection and the potato side was interesting. The venue provided a good sized dance floor. I think the only issue that I saw come up at the wedding was the stairs. The elevator can only hold about 4 people at a time so if there are a lot of elderly or others who cannot do stairs, this may be an issue. There is a bathroom on the upper level with cocktail hour, but for the main floor you have to go downstairs to get to a restroom. Also, there was a holdup sometimes when everyone moved from ceremony to cocktails and then to dinner. Overall, it was a great wedding and a very nice venue. All of the staff I encountered were very friendly and I know my sister-in-law was pleased with the service she received on the day of her wedding. read more

I celebrated my 50th Birthday on the third floor of Franklin Plaza. The venue is amazing. The room itself is gorgeous and then you add the rooftop terrace and it's unequaled by anything in the Capital Region. You are always guaranteed great food and service at Franklin Plaza and they did not disappoint. My guests are still raving about what a great time they had. Everyone says the same thing. "It's so beautiful there", "the food was amazing" and "I can't believe how great the service is". Attended a very expensive wedding here. The Good: It was a grand Bank turned into an event hall. Beautiful space overall with cool accent lighting. Huge parking lot right across the street. Layout is good and easy to get around although there is only one narrow stairwell that gets flooded with people going either up or down. The younger kids working were very polite, eager to assist, and honestly provided a better quality of service then I have experienced at other banquet halls. The upstairs cocktail hour layout was great. Staff made sure hors d'oeuvres got to everyone. Food here was delicious with specific note to the lamb being some of the best I have had. The Bad: Main meal service while efficient was rushed in a bad way. Waiters were polite and working hard, but the main meal's food quality wasn't anything special. Their filet mignon needed a hacksaw, and the chicken was tough. Coffee and tea arrived and was cold before cake was even cut. The Ugly: One of the bartenders, a heavyset guy whose name tag said "Uncle" was downright tacky. He actually slid one of the drinks into the side of his tip jar making a clink sound, and then followed it up with a with a wink. Real subtle pal, with that type of polish it's just a matter of time before Carnival Cruises calls with a job offer. read more

We got married here in February 2014, and I have to say, the entire experience was simply amazing. First off, Michael is a great guy to deal with. He has a ton of experience dealing with weddings, so he's seen every layout, color combination, lighting effect, table setting, menu, DJ, photography, schedule, everything. He knows it all. And he's willing to bend over backwards to make sure you get your perfect day. Can't ask for more. Joe, the main guy who made sure everything was running smoothly for our settings, decorations, our rehearsal...just an excellent guy. Runs the staff smoothy and efficiently. Clear communication, super cool guy, and makes sure the wedding day is running on time and to your expectation. Dom, the main guy on the floor, just amazing. Day of our wedding, he basically catered to my wife and I's every need. If my drinks as low, I'd turn around and a fresh one was at my table. If I wanted meatballs, he had them at the table. He made sure we had a small dish of everything on our menu so we could taste it. He refolded our napkins when we stood up. He flattened out my brides dress. He ran upstairs for 5 hour energies, or had pins for when things fell apart. Can't ask for more. The staff: every single person here is on top of their jobs. I never saw a empty or dirty dish more than once. Everything is cleaned efficiently. The staff treats every single person with respect and caters to their every need. Want coffee? More cake? A different dish? They have it all here, with a smile. The food: We had excellent food served perfectly and on time. We requested a few special items and they were 100% able to deliver. In fact, we wanted a special fish meal for more asian folk, and they just said provide us a recipe and we'll do it. And they delivered. Everyone loved it. Drinks: The Bar staff were on top of it. We wanted specific alcohol and they had it. They made every mix drink, provided the beef, poured the wine. Excellent. Decor: The inside is classy so you get a great vibe. They even hung up lanterns for us that reflected all the lighting and made a really cool ambience inside. Setup of the ceremony, then moving to the cocktail hour, then coming back down for the reception was smooth as butter. Everything here screams well oiled machine. Can't beat it. A perfect place. Phenomenal!! 10 Stars!! Attended my nieces wedding reception yesterday evening & I could not have been more impressed with everything about The Franklin Plaza. We had the entire building to ourselves & each floor was a wonderful surprise! The second floor for cocktail hour was great - food delicious and beautifully displayed, 3 bartenders, and gracious servers. Food was all high quality and delicious - many, many options which were always full, never ran out or even short of anything. Passed appetizers were inventive and tasty. Down to the first floor for dinner - The room set up was gorgeous - lighting, drapery, furnishings, etc... top notch glamorous. Service & attidue of ALL staff was courteous, polite, helpful, happy & kind. Food was spectacular, so often at these venues the food is mediocre, not here. Afterwards we had a Veniese table with so, so many dessert choices it boggled the mind! Again, beautifully displayed, delicious & just Amazing! Up to top floor roof deck for after party, again very glam, high polish sleek space inside, outside was really nice with couches, fire features, nice decking and a bar, passed pizza was a nice and tasty late night snack. The entire venue is very impressive, a beautiful old building with features that cannot be duplicated in newer places or hotel ballrooms which all lends to a feeling of graciousness and grandiosity- not antiquated or old fashioned. "The Franklin" as locals call it, provided a phenomenal venue and outstanding service to an international science conference of about 100 people. Not a wedding, not a gala or benefit but a science conference!! They were invisible when they needed to be. Everything worked! Present and charming when appropriate. Responsive when requests came in. Best top floor and rooftop patio in Troy. Front of house (Dan, Sean!!, +) are excellent. Although as the groom you are running around constantly, I got to experience this all over again with my cousins wedding a few weeks ago. Again the Franklin Plaza showed went above and beyond. When we walked into Franklin Plaza 17 months ago we had seen many beautiful venues, but we immediately knew this was the place for us. After sitting down with Joe our feelings were only further confirmed. Fast forward 17 months to our wedding weekend. Not only did the Franklin Plaza live up to our expectations, it far exceeded them. It was so beautiful all of our friends and family couldn't stop raving about it. We did both our ceremony and reception here. Both were amazing. However, there are a lot of beautiful venues out there, the Franklin was unique and even more importantly, it was the best customer service I have ever experienced with any company I have ever dealt with by far. They really showed that they cared and wanted this day to be the best day of our lives. They made sure that every guest was happy and comfortable. The entire team was awesome. Dominic made us feel like royalty. He was nearly superhuman always popping up with everything we could possibly need even before we knew we needed it. He would not let us down. Offering my mother in law slippers when she said her feet were getting tired, finishing the cake cutting for us when we were a little confused, making sure our cup never got empty, keeping us updated on anything we needed to know about, delivering all of our things to our suite so it was there and waiting for us when we got back. Our guests were impressed and couldn't stop complementing us on both the beauty and the service. If we were to do it all over again we would pick Franklin Plaza every time! If you are even considering them I would highly recommend you go for it. You will NOT be disappointed. We just had a FABULOUS wedding here this past weekend, and can't say enough about how positive our whole experience was. From the very start, the staff are VERY professional and more than fair. They are VERY flexible - very happy to individualize your wedding experience! We had special requests such as ethnic foods, extra hours, top shelf alcohol - and more - and they were SO accomodating! Our guests who quite literally came from all over the country and the world (including but not limited to LA, Atlanta, Asia, and South America), ALL commented on how FABULOUS the food was - lavish and generous as well!
